I really love your Avengers costume videos. You really give these outfits a proper critique as they deserve, pointing out the true flaws of these outfits and where they could have improved.
Honestly it shouldn’t be that hard making an original costume that looks metal as hell. Devs are just scared to embrace bold designs and it really shows.
Considering how Bucky feels like he missed the memo in the costume department, and has sooo many more suits than Janethor, I have to assume he was from MUCH earlier in development, possibly at that point people talk about where you couldn't double-up heroes.
As someone who ALSO doesn't care for Black Widow. I think the problem is that most people use phrases like "I don't care", "I'm not a fan" or "I don't like" in a negative connotation instead of a neutral one. Specially the later. So they just assume they are the same as saying "I hate".
In the case of Black Widow, I actually do like her casual costumes more since at least they're not yet another variant of black bodysuit. And I think the coat skin could've been cool if they had played it up as a Film Noir-inspired look. Give her a fedora, make the coat look more like a trench coat, change her hairstyle to something appropriate for the time period, and it could've been a fun themed costume for Widow.
I like the casual skins for Widow because they look like something a SHIELD agent would wear. The default turtleneck looks like something you'd see a character wearing in Bond or Mission: Impossible.
Probably giving them too much credit but bucky's hair colour changing could be on purpose to show how he was locked away and only sent out on night missions for such a long time as his hair darkened and the after becoming a hero again and being out in the sun more slowly lightened his hair back to a more natural shade for him
I wanted to weigh in and just say I do like the casual outfits. I find it really charming to see what heros look like when they are off the job. It shows that they aren't just heros, they are people, and that makes it easier to relate with them
11:51 normally im a casual costume hater, but i actually like this costume and its because there are details that show the clothes actually belong to the character lmao, like she has a black widow belt on, the zipper on her jacket is the symbol as well, it looks like clothes that she would actually own and wear, wish more casual outfits even attempted this. Also love your videos!! We need more people talking about costume/character design in game, as they often go over looked!
What makes the causal clothes even worse is because generally everything else in this game screams lazily done and/or bland so seeing plainclothes costumes for superheroes doesn’t help.
When the dev's say "more realism" you do know were seeing a unfrozen super soldier, a Russian agent, a 100 year old god with a magic hammer, a giant gamma monster and a billionaire in a iron suit i think realism is kind out the window
Don’t forget a King with a Panther suit, a super soldier with a metal arm,human- mutate in a red and blue suit with web shooters, and an inhuman with Mr. Fantastic powers, then regular ass people with bow and arrows and swords, with a one-eyed dog beside them
its insane how they managed to mess up so badly on the movie suits. insomniac managed to translate the movie suits perfectly, surely it isnt too hard to double check if the seam lines are supposed to be black or grey?
Black Widow has the Venom symbiote in a new run and the white parts of the venom suit are now red mixed with her widow symbol. Wish this game had been better we could've got that suit
In the MCU, Bucky uses his robo-arm for power, and his flesh hand for dexterity and precision. Having a glove would get in the way of that. Of course, you have to wonder what happens to all the fingerprints he leaves. Maybe they're burned off, or masked somehow.
I Like casual costumes, becasue: 1-i like to see what characters wear outside the line of duty, it adds characterization, 2-i come from media with more fashion-focused designs for outfits, so the hereos having drip streetwear instead of their superhero spandex is a nice transition for people like me, and 3-it's just hilarious to go and beat up hordes of enemies and superpowered villains dressed in a swimsuit. With all that said, this all depends on the costumes being well-design and interesting to use. Which this game doens't. I think THE most egregious thing about BW's costumes is the hair. Not only do most of the hairstyles not match their comic counterparts, which I guess isn't terrible, but the material for the hair is AWFUL. I noticed it with other characters like Thor too, but on BW it looks noticeably worse for some reason, probably the colors. Everything on the costumes tries to have this more realistic material to it, and I think for a lot of aspects they nail it like with plastic or metal, but the hair looks like something from a PS3 game. It looks super matte and barely lit, and there's little to no contrast in the color of it. For black hair it's less noticeable, but on a character like BW with blonde and "red" hair, it's VERY noticeable and looks really bad. But yeah, she needed the more red hair. It just looks brown in this game, and I mean come on, people in real life can have pretty red hair, and besides, hair dye exists. Even the MCU gave BW properly red hair in Phase 1. Though, looking at the AoU suit, maybe it's best CD didn't give us red haired BW...
The whole "Fem Fatale wearing black leather and using pistols" is such a generic trope, that there are multiple characters like that even within Marvel Comics itself.
ive always liked the casual costumes because I always feel like its a situation where they couldnt get suited up fast enough. so you end up getting the bugle boy costume or the american dream costume etc
Seeing your videos makes me wish we had a wiki specifically for superhero costumes. It could cover everything from appeareances in comics and other media, design analysis, IRL and canon lore, concept art, etc. Also it's kinda sad that the MCU tie-in games have better comic costumes. Speaking of which, that could be a good video, though it sucks that the games are mostly exclusive to PS3 and Xbox360 (the ones with ports to other systems are seriously downgraded). I would like to throw in some other games that I think would make for some good analysis: the Marvel Ultimate Alliance series, the Batman Arkham games, maybeeee Marvel: Future Fight?(sometimes it feels too much like an MCU advertisement, even more than Avengers). There's probably more obscure games I could recommend but idk. Great video as always! keep it up :)
As someone who likes casual costumes and battle-damaged cosmetics, I'd like to throw my opinion into the ring since it's something that keeps coming up in these videos. Firstly, I just like the variety. A wide range of outfits gives you incentive to switch between them more often and just unlock more of them. Supersuits are awesome and always will be, but if you don't have ANY non-supersuits or if every Supersuit is pristine, then I feel like you're missing out on the variety of having more unique models and outfits. Secondly is the roleplaying potential. Every costume tells a story, and in your mind's eye, a story of hastily thrown-together gear or the aftereffects of a brutal battle add something to the current fight or mission and can make the character feel more alive. Thirdly, they add a sense of relatability. Sure, superheroes as a medium are larger than life, but those heroes (especially in Marvel comics) are people, too, and get involved in events even when duty doesn't call. This ties back into point two, sure, but it adds to the fantasy for me: the idea that anyone can be a hero, regardless on if all of their supersuit is on right or if they've been beat up and need to get back up on their own two feet to save the day. Anyone can wear the mask, and no hero in this game is an Adonis who can handle everything thrown at them. All that said, I do kinda get why you give them low ratings in these videos, anyway. They don't add anything to your personal superhero fantasy, and that's fine! My superhero fantasy tends to have them in supersuits, anyway, so it's not even a fundamental disagreement. I just think, sometimes, something different helps draws you into the character more.
I would’ve loved to have seen the Bucky cap costume in this game honestly. If they added Falcon down the line (lol) he could’ve also gotten a captain America suit and you could’ve had almost a full squad of unique caps haha
13:00 It's at this point that I realized why her proportions seemed off this whole time (admittedly, this was triggered by the ridiculous 90's proportions): Not only has any exaggerated femininity been removed from her (you'd think a femme-fatale character named Black Widow would have an hourglass figure and not 34-30-34 measurements), but they added this odd, pointless straps at the lover point of her rib-cage on many of her costumes. This makes her figure look very rectangular; not helped by her very flat stance.
I've always enjoyed heroes occasionally fighting in their regular clothes (key word, "occasionally"). It shows them getting caught off guard and if secret identities are a factor, then it adds a level of stakes where they have to be even more discreet. Which is why I really hate nanotech suits. It makes things way too easy and convenient. Suddenly being attacked? Press a button and the suit is there. Need to get somewhere fast? Suit's in your pocket. It takes out all form of stakes and clashes with the grounded nature of what the MCU was built on. It worked for Iron Man because it was his tech that he made that showed the evolution of his suits, always learning, always improving, always making solutions to problems he's faced in the field. But with Spider-man, when the nanotech is handed to him, it just becomes too easy and breaks is own rules (how does he have regular running shoes on underneath the Iron Spider boots? Because Nanotech). And now everyone has some for of nanotech to the point where it's just a cheap gimmick. Nanotech (and stuff similar to nanotech) can work for different characters, as long as it's not just a lazy shortcut for the characters to have all their gear on them at all times or to show off the actors faces every 5 seconds. For example, the Symbiote can shape shift into regular clothes (not just vanish underneath skin), it's unique and has the extra layer of having sentience that makes it stand out. Black Panther's nanotech suit tore through his clothes when he suited up which adds an extra crutch to it. Doctor Strange can magic his clothes to change in a uniquely styled way. This doesn't belong to just one character, but when it's applied to multiple in the same exact way, then it just becomes tacky
See, I'm not heads over heels about casual wear, but i do enjoy it. I think its interesting to see larger than life characters in something you could get from Ross. A heroic physique usually ups the feeling of it a lot as well (which is an issue this game has)
Imo, even though its bland, I actually like Widow's default tactical outfit. Looks like something an actual spy would wear. I always thought she should wear a black turtleneck like how a ton of spies do, with the red hourglass symbol on the stomach
This game is why I appreciate other Marvel games for giving either the characters their iconic appearances or an original but could be iconic outfit like Avengers Academy
I like more casual skins sometimes because it's a kind of peak into what a more street level or vigilante form of the character could look like. I do think that this game overused this though because it doesn't work well for every character. And on top of that, the actual design of the suits still matters.
This video got me thinking. A black Widow game could be very good. It could focus on splinter cell styled stealth gameplay or maybe more PS2 era Tomb Raider styled gameplay. Maybe blend those together for a game that goes from stealth levels to action levels. It should focus on the government side of the MCU and maybe outside of Nick and Clint it shouldn't have any other heroes in it. I don't know I just think it could be cool. Also a lot of the outfits in this game could be things she wears in each level.
26:47 You could pretty easily fix this design by; having the sleeve torn on his left arm so it doesn’t cover the logo he has, get rid of the tear on his right arm, add a dive knife strap to his right arm, give him body armor, make his pants a darker shade of blue, give him tattoos.
I could be thinking too much about it but the glove on Bucky's hand in the winter soldier outfit would I presume to allow for some sort of traction and an overall better grip on things while the normal hand doesn't need it because our hands already have quite a bit of traction so I would assume the metal arm has less traction so the glove helps with that
I think the glove in the metal hand is for grip not protection, the metal palms are problably slippery and hard, making them not very good to hold things with.
I personally like these casual wear outfits, mostly because it gives off a Vigilante vibe (sorta like the Homemade Spider-Man suits in a way) though some definitely pull it off better than others, because they need to also seem like it's still trying to be a superhero outfit
The Major Bucky suit might be a reference to David Bowie's Major Tom? They both wear a white suit with an orange visor and then there's the name. I might be reaching, tho, since it's the only musical ref as far as I know.
0:54 When I first saw your visual aid, it seemed sexist - all of your likes are men, there are two men and three women you don't care for, and you hate Kate Bishop. But then I watched your video on the Hawkeye costumes, and I realized Crystal Dynamics did Kate dirty.
Why is Crystal Dynamics so stubborn about body proportions, yet change at the weirdest of times? Like, Dorito has pointed out how the body proportions in this game are severely underwhelming, but they change with very specific costumes that don't show up ever again? Why? If you decided to change it, why not just update all of the other costumes, since it doesn't look like it'll cause many issues with gameplay since you've included it anyway. Like, Black Widow looked really nice with the swimsuit but it never shows up again, same with that one Cap suit that updated his body proportions. Crystal Dynamics just confuses me, man.
In terms of the ranking at the beginning, I hated Kate bishop when she was first introduced but her gameplay made up for it. Somehow, she was the most fun to play out of everyone
28:34 Something that really doesn't translate well about this "costume" is the black stripes. In the comics, they were pitch black which made them look like the shadows of actual prison bars. It made them feel like they're in a cage even when they weren't. The one in-game just looks like a generic thug enemy from a Lego Batman game, or something like that. I also think its weird he has his sleeves rolled up. Bucky just doesn't really do that.
I mean, I do like a good civie costume in a lot of games. Can't put a reason it beyond it giving a sort of espionage feel. Their often less visually striking and in this game, painfully so. I honestly wish for a civie outfit, widow should have got something resembling a business suit. Bonus points if effort was added to include details like rips to the fabric. Or a dress.
The main reason I like casual outfits for black widow is purely for playing as other characters and seeing a normal lady with a gun run around. It’s very entertaining.

A metal hand probably lacks grip I guess. That’s why WS uses a glove on his metal arm.
You blew my mind with the "glove on metal hands not the flesh hand" bit, never realized how silly it was
See, I'm not heads over heels about casual wear, but i do enjoy it. I think its interesting to see larger than life characters in something you could get from Ross. A heroic physique usually ups the feeling of it a lot as well (which is an issue this game has)
Thank you for making these videos they're very fun to listen too
2:52 Dang, Natasha’s got the whole bakery.
Indeed. They clearly forgot that part in her game design.
"I don't think Balck Widow has a single good suit"
> 14:43
You lied!
Imo, even though its bland, I actually like Widow's default tactical outfit. Looks like something an actual spy would wear. I always thought she should wear a black turtleneck like how a ton of spies do, with the red hourglass symbol on the stomach
2:53 photo on the left be lookin like 2 polished bowling balls😂
Aside from the good critiques on suit designs, I love how he puts different games on coz it's more entertaining then watching avengers gameplay
I like the cord attatched to his arm.
if a brief look is 38 minutes long...what's an indepth look? and will we get one?
An in-depth look would be a 40 minute video shitting on one skin per video.
Perfect.
Babe wake up, dorito god just posted
BABE WAKE UP DORITO GOD POSTED
I do appreciate the commitment to just having completely unrelated (and usually better) games running in the background of these videos lmao.
I personally like these casual wear outfits, mostly because it gives off a Vigilante vibe (sorta like the Homemade Spider-Man suits in a way)
though some definitely pull it off better than others, because they need to also seem like it's still trying to be a superhero outfit
is never a sad day when Dorito God uploads
do Ms.Marvel next
He said at the end of the video that he'll do both Hawkeyes first, then Ms. Marvel last.
I would’ve loved to see her suit from Black Widow Vol 6. IMO her best design.
I was just wondering when you’d upload again, love the vid
Any plans to cover the guardians of the Galaxy game costumes?
Yes
@@DoritoGOD2811hi
Black Widow definitely has better costumes than Bucky who’s only good outfits are his movie skins
The Midder Soldier vs The Chad Hood
The comic illustrator’s went overboard on black widow’s behind, if you know what I mean
I LOVE DORITO GOD
I am so surprised he liked the random red spot on the shoes
2:56 god DAMN the ass on that comic panel… what the hell was that suit made of? A vacuum seal? 🤣🤣
oh I wish
Man, they did Widow DEAD WRONG with that Fear Itself suit here.
The Major Bucky suit might be a reference to David Bowie's Major Tom? They both wear a white suit with an orange visor and then there's the name. I might be reaching, tho, since it's the only musical ref as far as I know.
The goat is Back with a New vídeo 🔥🔥🔥
I wouldnt have minded civilian costumes if they did it like they do with Bruce and Tony on the Hellicarrier, use them in Hubs.
0:54 When I first saw your visual aid, it seemed sexist - all of your likes are men, there are two men and three women you don't care for, and you hate Kate Bishop. But then I watched your video on the Hawkeye costumes, and I realized Crystal Dynamics did Kate dirty.
Yeah almost seems like crystal dynamismcs put more time into the men
Just to clarify, when you say you dislike or dont care for a character is that just for the game or in general?
In general
every character in this game looks like a fallout 4 mod
It’s so weird too see all these videos with totally normal takes but in the Spider-Man one he was firing off hot takes left and right
Why is Crystal Dynamics so stubborn about body proportions, yet change at the weirdest of times? Like, Dorito has pointed out how the body proportions in this game are severely underwhelming, but they change with very specific costumes that don't show up ever again?
Why? If you decided to change it, why not just update all of the other costumes, since it doesn't look like it'll cause many issues with gameplay since you've included it anyway. Like, Black Widow looked really nice with the swimsuit but it never shows up again, same with that one Cap suit that updated his body proportions.
Crystal Dynamics just confuses me, man.
Hey, was wanting to get into content creation and was wondering what mic you use?
It's a blue yeti usb mic, but I don't remember the exact model
@@DoritoGOD2811 thanks man, really love your content! keep the good work up
In terms of the ranking at the beginning, I hated Kate bishop when she was first introduced but her gameplay made up for it. Somehow, she was the most fun to play out of everyone
The Sunny Day for Widow is her best top tier
Or a dress.
did anyone else notice that at 12:04 when he shows te google search of granny bun the black widow from the avengers game shows up in the bottom right
Yeah I edited that in to show how well it fits in with the other granny pics.
09:18 Sonya Blade!... Wait no-
The main reason I like casual outfits for black widow is purely for playing as other characters and seeing a normal lady with a gun run around. It’s very entertaining.
I figured the glove on the arm was because of grip or something along the lines
Thanks for the video! Really enjoyed it. Is there any chance to see such videos on other superhero games? Cause that would be awesome.
Random Frog Forest ost in a video about a superhero game's costumes is Random but appriciated
22:03 Bucky looks like Tommy Wiseau 😂
oh hi steve
Hey I was wondering if maybe you could do a similar video for the costumes in other recent marvel games like Midnight Suns or Guardians of the Galaxy!
You violated at the end💀 It ain't that bad bru
about the glove on buckys metal arm, i think it's for grip because metal fingers would probably be slippy.
the street clothes are cool looking but would personally feel better if they werent in a game all about superheroes and super powers.
