- Horacio Pagani is an Argentine-Italian businessman and engineer in the automotive industry. He is the founder of Pagani Automobili S.p.A., an Italian specialty auto-maker. Prior to founding his own company, Pagani worked for Renault and Lamborghini.
You may know Pagani today as a manufacturer of luxury cars, but the history behind the company’s establishment is much more inspiring than you might have guessed. Pagani did not start as just any company that wanted to produce nice cars. Pagani started as a revolution. And the man behind that revolution is Horacio Pagani.
Before he founded his supercar company, he was repeatedly rejected by Lamborghini and Ferrari. These companies did not have any faith in Pagani’s ideas. Rather than get discouraged, Pagani took out a loan and built his dream car against all the odds. Today, Pagani is the producer of some of the world’s fastest, rarest, most luxurious cars.

What’s crazy is the creator of Lamborghini was rejected by Ferrari and created his own brand, now we learn that the creator of Pagani was rejected by Lamborghini and Pagani did the same created something for himself. There is power in rejection, do not let it stop you, let it fuel your dreams

What I'm starting to realize about these Italian car makers is that they're really mean to each other and really don't want to see each other shine.
But isn't that just how the auto industry works in general. There's poaching and cut throat competition. But I do feel that the Italians have started to change maybe around the late 90s. Ferrari has been working with Ducati for development purposes along with Shell Oil. Ducati and Lamborghini too have had collaborations since. Another thing to note here is that the team at Lamborghini was not really mean to Horacio. They just weren't convinced that it was worth putting their money into having autoclaves in house since carbon fiber n carbon Kevlar technology was still in its grassroots and quite expensive. Also, Horacio was contracted to supply carbon parts for them after he set up his business. There are interviews of Horacio where he spoke very fondly and favorably of his association with Lamborghini.
That’s how business works. Who wants to see potential customers go elsewhere??

Well, it was more of Ferrari using the same clutch as Lamborghini's tractors. Lamborghini got mad, and started making cars. Horacio Pagani actually got to work for Lamborghini, but he didn't progress as deep as he deserved (and the guy did great things).

Ferrucio Lamborghini, the founder and owner of, well, Lamborghini, bought a Ferrari, wondered why it kept breaking down, had the car torn apart in his own garage or factory, then he and his staff found out they used THEIR (Lamborghini) tractor clutch. Ferrucio got mad and went to Enzo to complain about it, and Enzo told him to go work on his tractors. Thus... yeah, the birth of Lamborghini's car division. They still make tractors to this day, but you can see, even before they were bought out, they doubled down on making cars.

I’ve shaken his hand at Monterey Quail car show and spoke with him there. I was appreciating the pagani cars as it was the first time I’d seen of them and he was standing there with everyone else appreciative and grateful. Learned he was the founder and now know the story of it. Now when I think of all he must’ve gone through it is humbling to know

Near my office there are several auto showrooms: Rolls, McLaren, Lamborghini and Pagani. You can wander into any of these and check out their vehicles, except the Pagani door has "by appointment only" posted on it. An exclusive amongst exclusives.

He took out several bank loans on that journey. In which now a days is extremely hard for people to do. It just shows it takes money to make money no matter how good your idea is. You would need the money to bring your ideas to life. And from the looks of it. That what was standing inbetween him and his goal along with acquiring a team.

Imagine in an alternate timeline where Lamborghini didn't reject Horacio, then the Countach Evoluzione would've been a production car and destroy the Ferrari F40, and maybe they would've built their first hypercar in the '90s to compete against the McLaren F1. And who knows, maybe we would've seen a Murciélago with a Zonda style rear like the Pegassi Infernus from GTA.

Pagani has been for the last 2 decades THE car you put up on your wall as a kid. It's beauty is timeless and has become the dream car for almost all people who strive to one day be successful
What I learned from it is that whatever is your gift use it to the best and put all your efforts in it... You are destined then to be successful coz as you love it so much, you won't even be distracted from it.

He's cut from the same cloth as John Britten who built a carbon fibre superbike in his garage and beat factory race teams. That V1000 is arguably the best looking bike ever made and I can imagine John's life taking a similar path as Pagani if he was still alive
Fun fact: Pagani never rejects optimistic suggestions from his employee and some designers that's why his creative cars continously evolved compare to Ferrari and Lamborghini. 😊

Most of us go through this. And if we take it as an inspiration and motovation success follows. My best job ever eventually had to let me go I came to terms with it pretty quick since I hit the ceiling. Now with a more chsllenging endevour and more than 2x the pay Im very appreciative.
Lesson learnt : Apply for a supercar company, get rejected, start your own supercar company, you’ll get big.

Guys, Giulio Alfieri, engineer at Lamborghini, was tne one to hire Pagani after a recommendation letter wrote by Juan Manuel Fangio, so Lamborghini didn't reject Horacio and, on the contrary, in 1985, they opened up the composite material division after Horacio's advice.

I think you misunderstood the difference between prediction and idea/innovation. Pagani did no "predict" the use of carbon fiber in cars. He had the idea to innovative the use of carbon fiber because he saw the potential in it. Of course he wasn't the only one.
On another note, I still can't believe the Zonda came out in 1999. That car can be introduced tomorrow and it would still look futuristic.
