Passage on ferry ATLANTIC VISION, Argentia - North Sydney (Marine Atlantic)

A ferry trip between Argentia (Newfoundland) and North Sydney (Nova Scotia).
It was a reunion for me after 16 years, because I was there as 2nd nautical officer, when the ship was "unofficially" christened in the shipyard Howaldtswerke in Kiel (and was blessed by a Greek priest).
The crossing took longer than usual. With a delay of about 4 hours, the ship arrived in North Sydney.
A surprise was the view of the coast in the early morning of June 26, 2018, when Newfoundland was still where Cape Breton Island was supposed to be. At night the ship had sailed close to the Newfoundland coast from Argentia into the sea area off Port aux Basques. The captain had decided to do so because there was a storm on the Cabot Strait (area between Newfoundland and Cape Breton Island).
Finally, we started the journey from Port aux Basques area to North Sydney.

I'm from the West Coast of Canada and this makes me want to travel and see the East Coast of Canada now especially some of these Marine Atlantic Ferry routes. I long long overnight ferry trips. Awesome video!

Excellent video as usual! It was a bit sorry to see her outside decks so poorly maintained, I hope her engineering spaces are faring better, although the pitch black smoke on start-up didn't seem very promising. The interior seemed like a time capsule back to the Superfast days with hardly anything changed (apart from signage obviously). Made me think back to my superb crossing on her sister Superfast X from Scotland back home in 2006.

The Vision is due to be decommissioned, prob why the exterior maintenance was like that. I have been on all in there fleet and did notice that as well. Great video.

@@samariashipbuilding5397 η SUPERFAST όπως και άλλες εταιρίες παλιά, έκαναν αγορές με δάνεια. Κάποια στιγμή έπρεπε αυτά τα δάνεια να πληρωθούν..Και όταν ήρθε το 2008 κοντά, τότε τα πούλησαν όλα...Και οι Μινωικες κάποτε χρωσταγαν μισο δις κοντά και... και το πλήρωσε όλο το καλοκαίρι αυτό.

Thanks for posting this ... I am feeling quite "cheated" as I had been planning to return to NL this early fall and take this ferry route rather than the much shorter North Sydney > Port au Basques trip. But, alas, not to be since this route is canceled for this year and besides, the US/CA border is closed. I shall be booking it the minute Marine Atlantic starts taking 2021 reservations. Absolutely LOVE your videos of ferry journeys as you go to places I'll never get to since I refuse to fly on airlines [to Europe].

Isn't the ferry a great way to get across to Newfoundland! I went again this year and really loved the way over. I don't find it feels like a long trip when you have a nice day and you get to sit outside and enjoy the sun and fresh air! I went to port-aux basque, and I really liked the route. I'm sure an extra half day on the boat makes it for a long trip!

Is there any cellular phone signal or WiFi on the boat? I saw some computers there, are these computers free for connecting internet?

You can get service on the PaB route. However, cell service is non-existent during many parts of the Argentia route. There is Wi-Fi in the room where the computers are. Hope this helps!

Newfoundland has a potato beetle not found on the mainland. The quarantine station is where your car is hosed down to ensure that the potato beetle stays in Newfoundland.

The weather and sea are rougher in the Gulf of St. Lawrence compared to Scotland.
