    So glad to see it again! We rode from Bellingham to Haines in August of 1990. What a great experience! We booked too late to get a cabin, so the “Observation lounge couch” had to work. It worked out just fine. We had no idea you could pitch a tent on the back deck at the time or would have been prepared. Ended up staying 4 years on the Kenai Peninsula. Best years of my life.

    I lived in Juneau as a kid. Back when you could get a tour of both the bridge and the engine room on almost every Alaska Ferry.

    This is really the only way to get between Alaska and the contiguous US by car without going through Canadian border control.

      Hello Jerry and thanks for your post!
      Interesting to read about your former boss Lundin. Unfortunately there is no connection that I know of. I’m from Sweden and my fathers side (and the name Lundin) was from Sweden as far back as I know. My sister has done some research and I will check with her if there were any earlier relatives in USA or Canada. I’ll come back on that.
      Greetings from Khao Lak Thailand where we’re on vacation for two weeks.
      Have a great Sunday! // Bertil.

    Your videos are so awesome ... tho make me a bit sad as but for the situation we're ALL in I would have travelled about 1600 miles on ferries this year ... had plans to do the Canadian Maritimes again ... Nova Scotia to Newfoundland, then NL to Labrador. Plus a few hundred miles on WA State Ferries and BC Ferries. I can't cross the border so as it is now looks like my only ferry trips will be the Beaver Island (Michigan) boat where my home base is. But Marine Atlantic promised to contact me the DAY 2021 reservations can be made :-) Again ... I so enjoy your videos!

      Thank you very much. I can sympathize, I also had big plans for this year, which I unfortunately cannot / could not all realize. But hopefully better times will come again. Still have fun with my videos!

    Very impressive rock steady, stable video! What did you use to get such wonderful results?

    • @JustFerries
      @JustFerries  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      A combination of tripod, gimbal, camera internal stabilisation and external stabilisation with software (Mercalli). It is rarely just one system that I use. It always depends on the use and the possibilities I have on a journey.

    • @JustFerries
      @JustFerries  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much. But that is not the intention of my videos. My videos are purely about ferries, less about tourist aspects. My videos are also not documentaries or reports about travelling or are meant to advertise them. They are only aimed at people who are interested in ferries, pure and simple. Sometimes my videos go a bit viral and are also seen by people who are more interested in the journey rather than the ferry itself. As for your questions: you can find everything on the internet, for example on the website of the shipping company.

    I'm so planning on moving "Back to Alaska" Was Blessd to be stationed in Fairbanks from 89-92. Have regretted leaving there ever since. I'm finally retired for good and plan on taking the Ferry to the Anchorage area. I drove the ALCAN Highway but so much has changed, I'd don't want to deal with Customs hence the Ferry.
    My question is, I can't get my mind wrapped around how you pull a vehicle (Toyota Tundra) in especially with a 19ft trailer, how do you get it out without backing all the way? I tend to over think things until I understand the NittyGritty😉
    Any input from anyone would be greatly appreciated👍

      The mainline ferries are a loop inside. if getting on in bellingham to haines or skagway you will board in the stern and drive up near the front side door. When the ferries used to be at capacity back in the day, they sometimes made the last few folks back down the ramp but I doubt that happens often anymore.

    The interior reminds me of a Washington State Ferry. Its like they employed the same interior designer.

    • @eriknervik9003
      @eriknervik9003 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it’s a standard design for ships. Two years ago I went to Chile and took a ferry to Chiloé island and the interior was the exact same as WSF. Just all the signs were in Spanish

    • @jjs1192
      @jjs1192 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe some PNW influences going on; the older ferries are mostly Spaulding designed (same as the coho out of port angeles) and I believe the Columbia was built in Seattle so that would make sense!

      Linda - AMTRAK NOLA to LA. Then another AMTRAK LA to Seattle; Then a 3rd train SEA to Bellingham. The train station is just a few feet from the ferry terminal in Bellingham. The train portions will take considerably longer than the Ferry.
