I'll miss the Old Everard Junction. I've enjoyed the video's throughout the years. Everard Junction has given me some great ideas for my layout as I build it. I look forward to new Everard Junction Layout Journey.....thanks Richard for a great layout and video's. I hope Hornby does another update when you have complete the new Everard Junction layout... regards...John

I was devastated watching this 5 years ago, I had been watching you for many years before this and loved feeling almost apart for its growth. back then you were just a disembodied voice, and as such my investment was purely in the layout and not the person making it. 5 years later. I've just watched the station take shape, on layout Mk 3 (I think) the first few shots of the station in that video blew me away with how good it looked, and reminded me how much enjoyment you bring to us all. Thanks for sharing your hobby for all these years.

Exciting times Richard, sad to see this one go, it's one of the best around TH-cam, but I agree it's the right time, and you've learnt a lot about the long term issues of some materials. Really looking forward to seeing the new layout appear from the ground up, and now you've cleaned out some of the junk there's lots more space. Keep up the great work mate, whether it's the layout, tutorials, or the cars, you're a joy to watch and always very informative towards people of all knowledge and skill levels.

the fist video I saw from your channel was when you completed the junkyard, iI saw that video during the COVID time 2020-21. and in 2023 I reconnected again with you channel and started to see all video since my first video. Today on Oct’23 I look on your first videos and I find this one that surprise me about how you take this hard decision, and looking today was the right one. I really love you videos. cheers from 🇨🇦

Farewell to the (now) old Everard Junction. I spent many weekends exploring your beautiful country on British Rail when I was stationed there in the early 90s, and your layout brings back many fond memories. Looking forward to watching the new layout come to life.

Like many others have said - sad to see the old layout go and thanks for all the tips and advice over the years.
I too have had similar experiences with my first layout being built on a recycled base board and housed in an un-insulated garage (too cold in winter and too hot in summer).
Now I have converted the garage (fully insulated and heated) and have proper sturdy base boards.
For me de-railing is a thing of the past, so think you’re on the right track to insulate and start again!
All the best for the new layout - and now looking forward to seeing your new ideas and layout.

Now I get the chance to watch from the beginning again. As you said it was hard to make the decision so the mole hill had to go. Good luck Richard I for one will be watching every video.

This came just as I began to build the baseboards for my brand new layout. Your videos were the first I watched back when I was working on my old layout with my granddad who is no longer with us. The layout will be named after him "Raymond junction" My new layout will be bigger better and like yours, work. Hopefully we can both build the layout we want in the next few years. Thanks for all your videos and here's to the new layouts

Good luck with it all fella. I discovered Everard Junction a few years back when, frankly, I was going through the mill and in a funny kind of way it became a sanctuary/retreat and saw me through, especially as it reminded me of my 80s childhood and trips to "town" (London) with Dad and Network South East. Thank you for being such an inspiration. Everard Junction is dead. Long live Everard Junction.

You made the correct decision. I have worked on a couple of different layouts, and when you have an issue with the wood, it is time to start over.
A large layout I worked with had expansion issues in the Texas heat. The portions we built in winter grew to the point during the summer that we would walk into the layout barn and find derailed locomotives spilled on the floor.

  • @vincentnasuta1321
    @vincentnasuta1321 7 ปีที่แล้ว

I was so excited to check out the video to see what was coming next to the layout. After I picked myself off the floor it started to make sense as to why you were doing it. The plans you have for the loft will make it nice to work and play. I remember on many of your postings I have heard you say it’s too hot or cold to be up there. I will tell you I couldn’t watch the whole video I wanted to keep the memory of the trains running instead of you tearing it apart. I am looking forward to the new layout until then I can always watch the old videos. I have learned a lot from you. Thank you.

    Always loved you work!
I just dismantled my layout and like you, I kept all my trees, rails, points, houses and so on. I actually enjoyed taking it apart as I uncovered some mistakes I did in the past. My layout was built on pine for the structure, plywood for the base, and a 1.5-inch thick foam board on top of it which allowed me to nail my cork easily at the beginning before I glued it on the board and fixed the rails with nails. I just had to buy thicker and longer spring wire for the tortoise. I lived in Florida at the time and my layout was in a garage with 90% humidity and temperature going up to 105F in the summer.
I kept my layout only for a year and a half before I moved to California so it did not have time to warp I guess. I saw that some people use only the foam board directly on pine and glue little plywood plates where they have tortoises. I might try that next time as drilling through plywood is a real pain.

Richard, I have been watching your videos only recently, last 18 months or so. I must say your modelling, scenic and crafting skills have been inspirational. Like many others have stated, I too enjoyed the layout and I will definitely miss it. It was so sad to see the scenery and track work being dismantled. The layout is dead, long live the layout! I am sure the new layout will be equally inspiring and perhaps to a new generation of modellers. It also gives opportunities to exploit new advances in wiring, point motor and accessory control. Looking forward to seeing the forthcoming videos of the new layout as it begins to form. Good luck and waiting in eager anticipation.

Sad that the materials let you down but lessons to be learned by a lot from the experience, Been there myself, however the words of my grandfather came back to me that all the is old is not wrong, float your base boards, air dried never kiln dried, never screw it down as if your building the forth road bridge, always drill oversized holes or use undersized screws, back them off half a turn and on and on he used to hammer the lessons in like nails all taken from his decades as a master pattern maker. In the end it comes down to expansion, if it cannot then your asking for trouble further down the line and I am pleased to say it works.
Looking forwards to seeing the new layout as it develops.

Well Richard, I was only wondering the other day what had been happening on the layout - now I know!! I knew you had been busy on the Granada so thought it was just that. I have to admit that after seeing the video and the amount of warping that had occurred then I don't blame you for taking the action you have - anything else would have been just an ongoing saga of patching it up all the time. There comes a time when you have to say enough is enough which is obviously what you have done. Good man. It takes a lot of courage to do what you have just done but I bet that now it's all dismantled you can now breath a sigh of relief and get into that exciting stage of starting fresh. That layout doesn't owe you anything, it has given you 8 years of pleasure and taught you a lot along the way so a new Everard Junction (if you keep the same name that is) will be born and will be bigger and better than this version which we have all enjoyed watching it grow. I shall look forward to seeing the new layout develop which I missed the first time round. Good luck buddy. ...........Graham

Thanks Graham. Its a nice feeling being able to start again. I've got lots of ideas I want to try out and this is the perfect opportunity to do so. Still some more layout to take down at the moment, then I can focus on some loft insulation. Cheers

I am actually crying, for gods sake depression!
Its a painful thing that I know all too well, damp wood and MDF.
    Sad to see it go.

Yes you are back!! So excited to see what you create next. You've been a major reason I've been inspired in model railway construction.

While slightly freaked out by the destruction, it was fascinating to see bits of the layout you'd never normally see. Good luck with the new project.

Totally understand Richard. I did this a few years ago but I'm in the process of moving house so everything had to stop again. I might get the layout finished when I retire!

I've revealed myself in older videos. Building a layout tends to just show hands. I bet quite a few of you could spot me just from my hands.

A CrossRail video brought me here....but my friend I am truly impressed. You've earned a new subscriber (as well as going back over the old videos....).
Can't wait to see what you have planned.

I've been waiting rather impatiently for another video and when this one came in I was very glad to see it. Good news/bad news situation here. We'll certainly miss this layout but at least this way we get to see you do it all over again. I'm looking forward to following your new journey Richard. Cheers Mike

Sad to see the end of this layout. Yours was the first one that I found on youtube. It has given me some good ideas for when my son finally moves out and I get the attic back. But you did the right thing, throwing 'good money' after 'bad' is never a good idea, and I look forward to seeing the new layout, grow like a phoenix out of the ashes so to speak.

First DEstruction model railway I've ever watched! Can't wait to see what you come up with next given the wealth of experience you have and I have gained from watching you. So glad I (by necessity) built a frame for my layout and I echo your sentiments about the helix - my much simpler single track one never worked very well and is now redundant. Looking forward to the rebirth of Everard Junction.
