      Does not seem like 11 years. It’s flown by. Lots of models have travelled many miles on those tracks since the beginning. :-) lots still to do. Maybe get it done before it’s 15 years since the start. But I’m in no rush. What else would I do with my time if I didn’t have things to build. :-)

    Absolutely stunning. I've been watching your videos for years but had never seen a Layout Tour video before.
    Your attention to detail and design, the different levels, the station, the diesel maintenance yard. Everything about your layout is just bloody amazing. Thanks so much for your videos and major contribution to the world of model railways.
    You and Richard at Everard Junction are on another level of modeling, incredible skill. Cheers.

    Fantastic update and tour. Was interesting to see there’s still some of the layout without any scenery and your ideas to fill this space. If it was me, I would be tempted to fill the flat area with a golf course then you can still see the trains in the background but I’m sure it will look great whatever you choose!

    Great to see the layout in its entirety Dave and hear you talk about how everything links together. Your very interesting narrative brings to life the challenges you’ve faced, while your discussion about the different methods and manufacturer’s products you’ve used to overcome those challenges is quite inspiring. It’s certainly given me inspiration as to how I will design and build Phase 3 of Pevenbourne when the time comes to create the upper scenic level. Thanks for sharing your layout in this video. Take care mate.

    Great stuff - I think the depot is the best part of your layout with so much fine detail. And it certainly does remind me of Haymarket. It is easy to forget how much all that must cost since it is not just rolling stock that burns holes in your pockets. I had a wry smile at the telephone number of Dean Park Estates. Obviously, an Edinburgh area code with (classes) 27, 37, and 47!

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Haha, good spot about the telephone number. I’d even forgotten about that. It was an old dialling code too. lol.
      Yes, all the details cost money. It all adds up. As does the aerosol primer, paints, thinners etc. costs a lot.
      But we have to spend our money on something! We are only here once haha.

    Thanks for the recap Dave. Think I’ve watched all, if not, most of your videos. You do forget what excellent progress you’ve made over the years and what is still left to do. Really looking forward to seeing the rest of the layout progress. I’d be interested to know how you choose which to tackle next, e.g. why do you start the OHLE vs. The West End of the layout? Happy Modelling

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi cheers.
      I like to vary what I do. For example I was working on the incline retaining wall for weeks, then did the start of that scenic landscaping.
      I planned out the masts to go on to the incline and then decided to go for doing the OHLE just to freshen up and vary what I was doing.
      Stops you getting stale and bored.
      After the mammoth task of the lower OHLE I needed a break, so I’m now working on sone kits to go in one corner of the west end. This will appear in my next update in March.
      Then I’ll go back on to scenic work, etc. keeps me from getting bogged down in one task for too long.

    Your model, your rules. Attention to detail, amazing, i used to work for BR as firstly a guard and much later on as a passenger trains driver. My only gripe is those who do not bother putting either drivers in cabs or passengers on trains. If i could shrink down to appropriate scale, i would happily book on and drive a couple of trains on your layout, so much of what you have depicted is oh so familiar, the joins between actual 3 d model and background scenery are seemless, fantastic job.

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi you’re very kind, thanks 🙏 I am getting around to fitting drivers as and when. I prefer them to have them in the cabs too. Passengers…that could be more expensive with the number of coaches I have lol :-) cheers. Dave

    Further to my earlier comment my Cavalex class 56 arrived. I ran it in as recommended, and then coupled it up to 4 container wagons. After a lap and a half of my layout, it stuttered, there was a nasty burning smell and it stopped. Whilst the motor is turning, haulage capacity is negligible, presumably a gear problem. Waiting to return it for a replacement

    • @DeanPark

    I don't know why but my favourite part remains the abandoned siding, east of the station. Its such a cleaver part of the layout. most layouts would not waste space with a "dead" area so for you to have it just adds a wonderful extra depth to the layout

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi thanks. I have to say I do like that bit too. It was on my list of things to put on the layout from the very start… a disused siding was going to feature somewhere! So I’m glad you spotted it and liked it too. Cheers. Dave

    Not sure I’d be buying a house on the Dean Park Estate, being built directly on top of a tunnel! 😂
    Detailing of the layout is lovely, my only comment is it’s so clean. It needs a LOAD more grime

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Foundations of the houses are secure :-)
      It’s not as clean as people think. The camera and lighting make it a lot brighter and hide a lot of the subtle weathering. I’ve had a few folk visit, Inc Everard junction and he noticed straight away how more ‘grimy’ it looked in person. The new LED lights I installed are a lot brighter.
      I see a lot of layouts that are over done with grime, and it looks awful. I wasn’t going to slap black soot everywhere and make the same mistakes. I sometimes go back to an area and add in more weathering as and when. But to my eyes, not through the camera I feel I’ve got the weathering to a level I am pretty satisfied with. Cheers.

    Hi Dave. As you model an era that is a little late for me, I hadn't subscribed, but I kept coming back to your channel, due to both your amazing layout and the quality of your videos. So I've now subscribed, making your channel one of only 2 modern layouts (the other is Everard Junction - no surprise there) to which I subscribe.
    May I ask you two questions?
    1) What are the overall dimensions of the layout? (apologies if you mentioned it in the video and missed it)
    2) Since your layout is shared on YT, did you ponder how much OLE to use, as the more you add, the more it potentially inhibits visibility for viewers?
    Thanks again for raking the time to share your superb work.

      Hi, thanks for getting in touch and of course for subscribing. It’s much appreciated.
      Ok, the sizes are 25ft scenic layout by 11ft wide.
      There is also a storage yard at one end which adds another 3-4ft to the layout.
      I’m only putting OHLE on the upper two mainlines and a single lower mainline (which has now received its wires). As o don’t want to make it too difficult to access the tracks and to give a good view of the rest of the layout.
      I hope this helps. Cheers. Dave

    Hello. I've been following you for a while and your layout is truely magnificent. At 36:25 I thought it might be interesting to make that a more scruffy area. Instead of grassy embankments, have old looing vertical brick work with lots of grime and discarded rails and sleepers. If it is going to be an area where trains rush through and is generally out of sight by the public, then it wouldn't be looked after. When i think of all of those types of areas in london between tunnel portels, they're usually dark and neglected and quite deep as the tunnels are passing under large buildings. Just a thought.

      @DeanPark  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, thanks for that idea. I’ll have a think. I do like rails and sleepers flung by the rail side. I’ve used that on other parts. It does look effective. Glad you enjoyed the tour as well. Your feedback is much appreciated. Cheers. Dave

    As all ways your attention to detail is great, I would just wish you looked at the roads by the station where the level crossing is etc, they need some weathering I think as they stand out from everything else and look new if that makes sense. But keep up the hard work.

    Thoroughly enjoyed watching your tour, twice! The quality, accuracy and sheer volume of detail on the layout is truly amazing. Those of us who live a very long way from Scotland are privileged to be able to "see and enjoy" your large layout. My fledgling layout is roughly 6m x 6m (19' 6") around the wall type layout with a L shaped walk in well. I am currently building the lower level fiddle yard and nearing a decision point; build my inclines around the layout, emphasising levels as we progress, or use a an elongated helix to climb to the higher level? I am really taken by your "round the layout" approach. I was wondering if you have a layout plan that you are prepared to share? I am looking for inspiration regarding levels and crating the 3d look for the layout. Once again Kudos to you for your skills patience and willingness to share. I imagine making the videos adds another dimension to the effort and planning that you put in. Thanks so much for sharing.

      Being up the loft bit isn’t exposed to daily dust that you get in the house. However I do get some. I use a vacuum attachment on the rails, buildings etc. the bushes are given a good blow now and again with the vacuum nearby…it does keep the worst of it off. Cheers. Dave

    Your layout is absolutely amazing, and you are really giving me an urge to model BR 80s/90s even though I model the LNER from around 1933- the Early BR era.
    This might come across as a bad question, but my reasoning is I’m from North America, and over here we don’t really have electric locomotives. Is it safe to run diesel/other non-overhead wire locomotives on lines with overhead wires in real life? It’s just something I’ve always wondered and never found a definitive answer to. I know some late BR/Preserved Steam locos have high voltage warning signs on them, but I’m assuming that’s jus5 a case of better safe than sorry?

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thank you so much for your comment.
      Yeah preserved steam locos are allowed to run under the wires. As you say, they have overhead flash warnings on them in order for them to be certified to run on the mainline.

    • @modelrailfan37
      @modelrailfan37 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DeanPark oh I see, and the same goes for any diesel locomotive I presume?

    • @philipstokes2824
      @philipstokes2824 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Some steam locos had a yellow diagonal line across the cab to signify that they weren't allowed under there wires, I believe that in preservation a few locos had cab roofs and chimneys cut down by a couple of inches in order to run under the wires on the mainline today, i believe that a couple of kings and duchess have been modified, but you'd have to research reach individual loco for a definitive a answer on each.
      Hope that adds constructively to Dave's answer, I'm sure that someone out there can answer much better than me.
