This is absolutely THE BEST fashion vlog, by far. Literally, in one week of bingeing this series, I have completely overhauled my wardrobe. Now I love shopping for clothes and putting outfits together. What makes Chi’s videos so much better than the rest is that she models the outfits herself and shows you the side by side of the right and wrong outfits. This has helped me tremendously! So very grateful! Thank you.
Chi, I just bought a maxi length black coat (can still return) and was wondering if it was too overpowering for my small frame especially being black. And here you are, slightly shorter and you’re wearing a black maxi length coat! I guess that answers my question! I didn’t realise that knee length coats are actually harder to style or what the pitfalls are. I love how you show both good and bad options. Pictures definitely speak louder than words. Though I was hesitating, I was thinking that one advantage of the long length would be the warmth of having your legs covered. We have severe winters and more coverage was appealing. You mentioned exactly that in your video. I must say, though I love the look of cropped jacket on you, I would not feel warm in a short jacket in winter.
Definitely maxi-length coats! I so agree, a lot of conventional clothing advice like “short coats only for petites” are nonsense, but your advice is always great, it’s based on trial and experience, not some goofy theory. I love the new ankle-length coats with fitted waists, they’re so much more flattering than those horrible, baggy, shapeless, oversized things brands tried to convince us to buy for the last five years, or more. I put my foot down and didn’t buy a single oversized thing, I just waited this mannish, unflattering trend out. I wish I could shop at your brand more, Chi, but I can’t wear synthetic fibers, even blends.
This one I found in Mango is a bit oversized but I sized down. It doesn’t look enormous, fits really well and I can finally fit a thicker winter jumper underneath. It’s a tie style too, so no worries about it fitting.
There is a large Hispanic population from Mexico and Central America here in California, the average woman’s height in this population is around 5’0”. I don’t know what the heck they are supposed to wear, many Hispanic women I know are considerably less than 4’10 and have the tiny, delicate frames to match! They really struggle to find clothes that fit in our Eurocentric-manufacturing world, as do most SE Asian women, of whom there are also many here, who often have similar builds. I’m of European descent, but have more like an Asian-sized frame. At 5’4”, it’s tough enough, everything is enormous in the shoulders and hips, not to mention too long. (I was 5’6” before age- and spine trouble-related shrinkage). Banana Republic has some natural-fabric petites, but only in a few styles.
For years I always wondered why I felt off with a dress or skirt and a mid-length coat! Thank you. I live in a cold climate so a full length is a must but at least I know now how to pull it off. Last, I had a crop jacket on, and a gentleman said I looked nice. I get it now...I looked proportioned.
Thank you for this fantastic video! I just bought the North Face Reign On jacket, as I wanted something waterproof for autumn/winter commuting ahead. It was shorter than I thought - I thought it was a mid-thigh parka and it is cropped length, sitting above the hips. I was JUST about to send it back when I saw this video - I am 5"3 and I realise now that this length actually goes with much more in my wardrobe than what I wanted. Thank you!
I totally agree !! Everyone post I need to have coat shorter than long dress I wear and coat hitting around my high clave it was so bad ! Until I got maxi coat it looked so much better ! I am 5’5 thought maxi will make me look bad but it works better than other shorter coat I had ! Thanks so much for sharing ❤
Thanks Chi! Would appreciate any tips to look good for petites who prefer to wear smart sports runners year round(foot issues) AND not get swallowed up by bulky winter things.
I got a super deal on a chocolate trench coat, and now I have to find boots/shoes to match to keep the color going. I may have to still hem it. It hits about 1-2" from my ankle bone. I'm only 5' though. Thank you for the advice!!
I have never thought to wear a maxi coat because I am short. However, I love double-breasted coats (like my raincoat) and always wear it belted, so that my silhouette (curves) show.
I love anything cropped on top, and very long coats. The in-between lengths are a lot harder to wear in a flattering way on us petites. I still love a classic blazer, and wear them anyway, but they do cut us visually into two almost-equal halves, they’re just not as flattering. I like them best with above-knee skirts and dresses, which at least somewhat counters the effect by showing my proportionately long legs. I’m 63 and I’m sick of everyone telling me not to wear above-knee skirts. My legs are better-looking, even without tights, than 99% of the American young women’s who are “allowed to wear them”. To me, it’s not about age, it’s about highlighting one’s best features. Thunder thighs should not be shown, at any age.
I love-love-love your videos! You have helped me solve how to style the trench coat here. Can you do a video on suit jackets and sweaters? Especially for busty petites.
Maxi length is ideal, warm around the legs and with a good style coat very elegant. I also wear a lot of (long) dresses and skirts, when really cold I wear a leggings under them but a long coat also helps. I always have difficulty with the medium (thigh-high) and cropped coats. But cropped looks nice on a longer dress and with pants or thicker leggings a medium looks great. I don't have worry about color clashing, although it can be difficult with black on black as well (so many shades of black!!!), being a gothic almost everything I have is in black :)
Question: As a petite, do you think fitted/loose trench coats work best? I just bought a Burberry Chelsea trench coat in size 4US/6UK and it's a little loose on me but perhaps a coat should be loose? I'm confused.
As a 4'11 lady, white skinny jeans with long cardigan will only work on me if I go back to my former shape. I used to be physically fit but now, I'm chobby. I think, I should diet right now. Thanks for the advices.
Hi Chi, loved this content extremely useful! I will like you to have cool colors and cool neutrals on your clothing line please 🙏 cool bold colors Navy, Jade green , Magenta , teal , etc I’m cool undertone cream neutral la don’t flatter me 😢😢😢😢😢
Large oversized coats are too much for for as a petite. If I’m wearing a coat, a monochromatic outfit will not help since I am NOT going to wear my coat open!!😢I’m sticking with coats that are more slimming, such as a trench, crop, or coat with defined waist.
Hi Chi, in your 2nd last video about skinny jeans, you had mentioned that we can wear skinny jeans with booties by folding them up (cropped one). But in what shoes to wear with different length, you showed: not to wear booties with cropped jeans. I am bit confused. Please make me understand. Myself is 5feet only.
Relieved to see a fashion video with practical advice instead of so-called "street" fashions" in major European cities or videos showing only a bunch of the same old photos, which are so very blah and a total waste of time.
What is a petite these days? The average American woman is 5’4”, a petite, so why are regular clothes cut for 5’10” or 6’ models? The average clothing size of American women is now a 16. So, why don’t clothing manufacturers wake up to reality? I did manage to slim down to a size 6, but most women won’t be able to, I think, sadly.
I agree. Whenever I find a cute coat for petites, they are usually sold out of my size (small). Either they don’t make a lot, or other petites bought them all. 😢
I’m so surprised. I’m European and thought Americans on average were taller. It’s got to be one of the biggest markets in the States. So why haven’t manufacturers woken up to the fact? Here too, the clothes seem to be designed for women at least 5’6” or more.
I disagree with the midi length on anything. MIDI length looks unflattering to my 5’1 frame I get most of my stuff shortened and always accessorized with a belt to cinch in my waist. I cannot stand how literally almost everything she pairs with heels. I’m sorry but I do not want to wear heels with every single outfit I wear out a wedge or hidden wedge works well for me. Or how bout addressing petites with big boobs?

Wow, thank you!

Longer coats are warmer, too. I’m one of those always wearing skirts or dresses, and a long, warm coat really helps.

@@kimberlyperrotis8962 I too were only skirts and dresses, NEVER pants.
Thank you! I struggle with finding a coat/boot combo. You look especially great in the sweater dress outfit.
At 5'10", but with a rectangular build, many of your suggestions work perfectly for me too! Xoxo 💕
Awesome! Thank you!

We tailor our clothes. My mom would always say the pants have to fit, the length can be tailored later.. Tops are fine to leave as is though.
No offence but on holiday In Mexico I noticed you’re all not that tall I’m not either😂🎉
I be hate hate having short arms!! Bloody coats too long in arms 😡
It woukd surprise you to know that even in latam countries we struggle to find clothes that fit us. We are an blue ocean market
Thanks for the advice I too am very petite

With the sweater dress you have above ankle boots on. I thought that height of a boot was a no-no?
The look at 7:01 was a yes in my opinion.

The average white American women are taller than 5’4. They are most often the targeted market for brands.
They also seem to target women with a smaller bust. So often you have to size up just so the blouse doesn’t pop when you move your arms.
