It’s 2024, I think 8 years after this video was recorded. At 4:53 this afternoon, I emailed Peggy at Easy L about how soon she could ship a pochade box that I suddenly need. She emailed back immediately and said to order right away, so I did. At 5:54, I got an email that my box has shipped. So Stefan isn’t exaggerating about Peggy-and she’s still getting boxes out as fast as ever!! By the way, the initials of her company are AWE. And yes, I’m in awe. Thank you Peggy and thank you Stefan for telling us about her!
I've been looking for a new setup to replace my bulky, heavy French easel. Lots of choices out there too. Because of this video, I ended up buying the Easy L Pro. Like Stefan says, it's a terrific price and even comes with the tripod. I'm still getting used to it, since it doesn't carry as many items as my French Easel did, so I have to have an additional bag to carry. The more I use it, the more I'll learn how to streamline my supplies. A few of my fellow painters kept pushing the Soltek, but a lot of reviews online warned how the legs would malfunction. I figured that if the legs on my setup would start screwing up, I only had to replace the tripod. At any rate, this video was much appreciated. I did call them up first with a question, and like Stefan says, the service is very friendly. I received it faster than I thought I would too. I'm very happy so far with my Easy L Pro. I have only one big criticism with it. It does hold 2 panels on the side, so you can carry them back while the paintings are still wet. But I wish they had some kind of wooden flap to keep them from sliding out. I'm going to have to rig something out. I was planning to take it on a plane in a carry on and be able to come back home with 2 finished, but still wet, oil paintings. Looks like I still will have to buy a panel carrier. Hopefully, it will also fit with the poached box in my carry on. I'd love to see a video on how to take your wet paintings and supplies back home on a plane. I already know I'll have to stash the paints and palette knives in my checked-in luggage.
I've ordered the Utrecht Thumbbox and with it a few primed linen on board 6x8 and 8x10. I have a feeling that it will be better than the Gurilla Thumbbox I've had for a few years. I'll check the Easy L, never heard of them before your post Stefan. Thanks and looking forward to seeing more of your awesome videos.
The Kevin McPherson pochade box from Easy L has been discontinued. I can’t find it anywhere. Is there any place or anyone I can contact to get one? I really do like the barebones simplicity design. Any recommendations? I already have the Alla Prima, Strada, Edge Pro Gear, Easy L, and Open M box. Please let me know. Thank you. Can’t wait to see a new an updated review of your pochade boxes.
My Open Box M is an excellent piece of equipment, expertly crafted, and these last for many years. I have never had a problem with customer service and having experience with numerous pieces of equipment from being in this business over 20 years I feel it 's price is fair for the quality hand crafted box. Strada is a great product, very different and Bryan Mark Taylor is as honest as he is innovative. I have no empirical knowledge of Easy L but do use other set ups which are quite effective ... but no need to go into that here.
How stable is the Strada? In my experience, pochade boxes that use friction hinges without a diagonal arm like the Open M or Easy L tend to bounce a lot during use.
Thanks for the review, very helpful in helping me decide on getting one! Have you put the added easel in upside down yet? I was wondering how that works as the company indicates it as a feature. Trying to determine if the easel or inserts are a better way to go? Your style inspires me. I'm now a 'minder'-lol!

I do not agree with the review of the Open Box M box. I have had one for over 10 years along with several other competitive brands. I still use the Open Box M to this day. All the boxes have their differences that can only be determined through years of use, ultimately the right box for you comes down to personal choice and preference in your working situation and environment. As for customer service, Open Box M has been outstanding for me, no complaints whatsoever. I continue to recommend Open Box M along with Alla Prima Pochade, Strada, and Coulter boxes as ones to consider when I teach my workshops. I am sure there are other quality boxes out there that I have not been exposed to.
Well Kelli over the past 30 years I have bought 5 open box m and manny other company's boxes It's is my experience that counts and it's true They need to up there customer service and improve there design
Used my open box M for at least 12 years. Sent it back in to get new screws put in. He totally rebuilt the whole bottom tray...for free! I’d call that awesome customer service. The palette box is a work horse too. In my opinion, one of the best companies.
I could not disagree more on his comments about Open Box M! Just wondering what the deal is with his negative comments. The open box M boxes are extremely well made, the customer service has always been great and the boxes are not expensive for the good quality built box! The boxes are lightweight, AND well made. My little 10x12 box has fallen into the ocean, down a desert cliff and is in great condition. It fits into my small backpack and since I am a small framed person I need a lightweight box. IF my little box ever breaks, I will buy another one.

Whoa, bias much? Frankly I've owned the Open Box M for 15 years and it has never failed me. It has none of the issues you claim it has. It is very sad that people may see this and get the wrong information. They should do their own research and they will find that OBM is owned by world renowned artists all over the world for a reason.

I cannot paint small. What is a good oleum air easel that allows st least a 16 x 20 canvas. Thank you. I am looking at easy L and also a Coulter.

I noticed that in the video of the 2017 Plein Air Convention there was one pochaud box called The Edge. I wonder if you know a trying about it.

Update One of my students ordered just this year one and it took three months to get it !
