      Yup! Everyone one of these era trucks here in PA has rotten rockers, cab corners, fenders, beds, etc, which means you can't even drive it on the road due to annual safety inspections...I even see 2010 era trucks rusting out around here! Its really sad given how expensive these are to buy anymore. Only way to make them last around here is to get them undercoated/oil coated as soon as you buy it, and get it re applied if you intend it to last more than 10 years without needing rust repair.

    • @upon1772
      @upon1772 4 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      @@alaskarailroad3996 Problem isn't that they don't run. Stupid PA inspections don't permit them on the road because of the rust. I've got an 06 Envoy with a 5.3l engine...runs great, but I've had to get the frame repaired on it twice in the last 3 years just to keep it on the road, and the rust issues aren't exclusive to GM vehicles...all cars around here exhibit the same issues with rust after 10-15 years.

    That’s also why our faithful gray Toyota Sienna went down the road last fall. My wife was tired of driving it, and really not using it as more than a car most days.
    Now, she has what she really wanted...a Plum Crazy Dodge Charger. She has something she’s proud to drive and it does what we need it to. I’m not expecting to put 305,000 miles on it over the next 25 years. That’s not really what I’ve done historically.

      Parker, I guess that settles it. Everyone should only drive Toyota or Honda. There’s no domestic vehicle to buy. I see running gear go bad on all the domestics before 150K. I’ve had two engine failures on Ford F-150 pickups (one at 94,000 and one at 133,000). My co-worker had his 5 year old Chevy 6.2 go bad at 62K with no warranty backing. I also see Chryslers running with 200K and no major repairs.
      Point being, it’s all in usage and the “luck of the draw.” In 15 years, if our Charger’s engine goes bad at 200,000 miles-who cares? It’s not likely to be my problem by then anyway. I don’t keep worn out vehicles because of my experience with a used up Chevy pickup back in the day that I spent more time fixing than driving.

    Factory stereo and 4wd actuators were a common failure point. Rust is a problem in the cab corners anywhere they salt the roads but copious amounts of zinc coated steel did help control it.

      Unlike my '89 K1500, my 2018 was just as immaculate on the underside as the sheet metal was. The frame was completely powdercoated and it had several types of covers to protect rust-prone areas. It should last a lot longer.

      PSTuners no. I’ve heard a lot of conflicting info on that. I know guys with 200k plus that never removed it. I’ve heard people say to tune it out (turn it off) and then others say you have to swap out the rockers to truly get rid of it. I’ve also hear as long as you don’t stay in deactivated mode for extended periods it isn’t harmful. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Awesome video! I have a '92 K1500 that I bough in 1995 when it had about 27,000 miles on it. Now we're up to about 260,000 and I would never part with that truck for any amount of money. Way too many memories in that old truck for us to part.

    My '94 K1500 with 5.7L and automatic runs great at 235k miles. Did recent tune up and compression check. All cylinders within few pounds of 195psi. I was surprised and did not realize compression could be that high on an old truck. My gauge is made by SnapOn so it us accurate. Engine oil pressure is over 40psi when at operating temperature. Great truck.
