I practice judo. I’m a beginner yellow belt. I use this channel for all gi and no gi Judo. I’ve worked on the timing of “Hiza Garuma” in our Randori sessions. This through is the number one only through I can execute on any level belt so far only using one grip. This Chanel is the best for this sport and MMA. Absolutely love this Chanel. It is Gold.
So, I hit this last night because you corrected my angle. I play a game where we name the takedown after someone does one, and one student recognized I didn't do Sasae T-K-Ashi because of my foot at the knee. Was a great day for learning. (Hiza Guruma was low percentage for me). Thank you sincerely for the fix!
Great video, Nick. Beautifully executed, and so effortless. I'm wondering if this could be applied to a no-gi setting. Must try this for myself and see what I can do with it as it looks like a real winner. Cheers.
It’s an easy throw for strikers too, because after all is stepping aside and use a sort of trip/low kick, you don’t have to engage in “loading”the opponent on your back, that’s everyday drill for grapplers but definitively not for most striking MA.
Thank you sensei. you described it very nicely. Hiza Garuma seems like it would be more effective than Sasai since the target area is much larger. I go for Sasai with the same off-balance you use in this video - will try this! thank you again!
Hello just subscribed 👍 enjoying your videos 👍 Am I too old to try judo ?🥋 49 yr old male I live in th 🇬🇧 U.K. and if lockdown ever ends want to try a martial art For fun, self defence, fitness Worry about injury, not afraid of sprains and bruises but reading some posts across the net, a lot of people saying do bjj I tried Bjj the other year found it a bit sink or swim. Heard judo more structured learning curve Definitely more affordable Thanks Lee
Thank you for the great video. I do bjj but love playing with the standup. Could you tell me about the painting on the back wall? It looks like a single character, I would love to find it.
Thank you sensei, your videos are awesome! Since you mentioned bjj, can you please recommend some throwing techniques for when your opponent grabs your pants defensively and won't let go? I've found myself stuck in this type of situation quite often when sparring with bjj people.
nick I have a question about judo, I've heard that it can be bad for the knees is this true? if so is there anything you do to protect your knees? I see the other guy here is wearing some things on his feet... I wish to start either judo or bjj but I dont want to grow old and have injuries...
Jack wearing shin pads. Neither is exceptionally bad for your knees. Knees can be vulnerable in any sport but Judo isn’t as bad as football, gymnastics or even basketball. There are knee braces, but people usually wear them only after they already have a knee injury.
@@nickyonezuka-cranfordjkc4931 ah he's your son I only found tht out whilst watching another vid of yours, lucky to have a father like you teach him all about judo! I think I'll go with judo... there's something about bjj I don't like... I don't like the idea of rolling around on the ground in a real fight... it's one of those things imo... just because you can... doesn't mean you should. Works well in mma but that's a controlled environment with a ref, rules, one on one etc... on the street it would be different. I mean giving up the ability to run in a fight is dangerous, if friends join in for example or if the person your rolling with pulls a weapon... dangerous. Have you ever had to use judo in a real fight?
@@playthroughcinema Judo's definitely great, but I wish more dojos would train with a self defence-oriented mindset also (rather than just competition only).
LOVE IT! Every judoka is ready for an orthodox throw, but obscure variations can devastate their defenses. Haven't seen this one before.

Ty !
This is the best judo channel I can actually watch and execute in class. Very good technique. Your son aswell. Very good Judoka.
One of my favourite throws, love combining it with osoto gari
Your channel is world class , man

Very nice. Great explanation.
Beautiful technique! Simple and effective. Love all the details you included. Arigato. 👍🏽💪🏽
Well done Nick. Clear and concise.
Awesome videos, Sensei. Cannot wait to get back to Cranford Jkc in two weeks.
Awesome! Thanks for showing right vs right also
For this technique, the title should be: Effortless and simple one hand throw. Thank you for this video.
Very cool. I use to get this a lot in Judo practice.
thanks. never really seen it like this before. it's a lot like a collar drag
Another great video. That’s a very good grip for hiza guruma, and it’s also great for sasae tsurikomi ashi.
Go judo! 🥋🤙🏾😎
Very nice and clean technique!
Love this technique. Simple, quick, elegant, and effective. Thanks

"guruma" and "sasae".
You make it look effortless indeed
Love this foot sweep
what the what that is so cool thanks for posting and sharing this
Nice Demo! Hiza Garuma and Sasai Tsuri Komi Goshi are great, also when set up by feints for o soto or ko uchi gari. 😉..
"guruma" and "sasae tsurikomi ashi" or "(sode) tsurikomi goshi"
i love that throw, i use it all the time.
Great Uke
Nice! I need to try this. Just subbed.

Never too old. Just go at your own pace and know your limits 💪🏼
Thanks 😊👍

Yes, my dad painted it
@@nickyonezuka-cranfordjkc4931 Very nice! Could you tell me the kanji or character name? Would love to look it up.

Definitely, check my video called “standing Ude Gatame “
@@nickyonezuka-cranfordjkc4931 Wow, loved that! Can't wait to try that one out. Thanks a lot, Sensei!
Hey 👍👍
Always had trouble with this throw now I see why it’s not linear
I am handicapped on the right side I like to learn self defense where should I go
NICE! Do you think this can work with nogi as well? Grip to elbow or trizeps or collar tie?
It’s possible with the collar tie or better yet an over/ under tie. I have a video on this titled “No Gi suprise attack “
Can you use sasae in this position or is there a reason not to?
They are very similar, Hiza is better when attacking immediately off the grip.
Great throw! Is there a no gi version?
This would be tough without the Gi grip
This throw works fine from under over position see it all the time in wrestling mauy Thai mma
Can you make this work with no-gi?
Yes, check my no Gi version on this channel
Beautiful technique. Have you had success with nogi using this technique? May be with two hands?
No, the closest thing with no Gi is Sasae. Check my videos on it.
Oh this is exactly the variation my teacher showed me!!! Edit, on closer inspection I do this stepping across with the right leg.
Cool

Can this be done No Gi?
The closest throw is Sasae tsurikomi ashi. Please check my video on it. It is with no gi
Хидза Гурума
It is "guruma", not "garuma".
against a lefty can be useful
