Sex, Slavery, and Drugs in Bangladesh

  • Bangladesh is one of the few Muslim nations where prostitution is legal, and the country’s largest brothel is called Daulatdia, where more than 1,500 women and girls sell sex to thousands of men every day.
Daulatdia is infamous for drug abuse and underage prostitution, and many of its sex workers are victims of sexual slavery who were trafficked into the area and sold to a pimp or a madam. They are forced to work off the fee that was paid for them, a debt that takes years to clear because they receive as little as a dollar for sex.
VICE News correspondent Tania Rashid visited the notorious Bangladeshi brothel - where human trafficking, underage prostitution, and drugs are commonplace - and met the traffickers and the trafficked, as well as the clientele.

That's a bitter truth of this world. Who cares for humanity?
That's exactly what happens when human relationships are weighed against money.
Why can't these girls or even younger boys sometimes run away?
Because the so called polished and well-off society yearns to keep them at bay thinking of them getting maligned because of proceeding to help them. It is practically difficult to survive in this world without a helping hand. And that is what these poor souls lack. And, then there are sadistic people who wouldn't like such institutions to stop working for their ulterior motives. The Government? Hahhhh. What is the meaning of this word? GOVERN ----- but what? Government (Definition) - A nexus of earning money immorally duping the world public in a clever way.
Does any entity really want to stop it? Sadly, no!

You were kidnapped here, detached from your close family, sold to an unknown person for business, have to sell sex multiple times a day to perverts, bonded to pay back loans, take drugs, take steroids to gain weight and look "better", and amidst all of this, you'll have to lie, smile and say that you like it. I wonder how many times the "Madam" beat those words into her head and threatened to kill her and her family if she said anything different during that interview. So disgusting. How can someone see the endless torment and helplessness of another person and say "Well, it's a domestic issue, they can deal with it on their own if they want to". Get real. She says at 13:15 that sex before marriage, drugs, and alcohol are all "strictly illegal" in Bangladesh. Therefore it is government that has created this brothel by its prohibitions. If there was no ban on drugs or prostitution, the brothels would start becoming more like legal brothels in Europe instead of these hellish creations of government policy.

I am sure if education, money and consistent laws would help however as one friend likes to say 'prostitution is the oldest profession'. In some ways we can at least be happy they get paid instead of being raped in caveman time. Biggest issue I see is men and the women they abuse keep this occupation alive. Wish there was a drug to just calm it all down instead of ramping it all up.

For all those people who are wondering what this has to do with ISLAM...here's why...
The most radical muslims who doesn't want be part of a hindu majority country..moved to one of the fertile regions of south asia..but there were also some hindus living already over there and after years of uproar and civil unrest...a political right wing party formed a new nation ( Bangladesh) with muslims as majority and hindus as minority and promised a secular state..and after years later the muslim majority shifted its interests from secular state and equal rights. eventually...the party that formed the nation was no longer in power and since then the new government created policies and laws that basically created less opportunities for hindu minority to better their lives...access to education, employment..you name it...every thing was difficult for the minorities...on top of it....muslims attacked hindu communities and destroyed their properties made them homeless...obviously the judicial body and current political system doesn't care...these aren't crimes since they are committed against hindus...it was only a matter of time for all those women to do what ever they can.. to eat...Well..its a muslim country but no wonder prostitution is legal cause all the women are hindus..If you abduct a hindu women over there..its not a crime....
So...if it wasn't for the religional differences...the government would have cared !!!

It is my very humble opinion that maybe you should censor the girl's image than exposing her naked body in the video. I think it is wrong to let the whole world see her naked body as I believe that one of the objective of this video is to protect women so maybe we should first do our part by censoring her naked image. Do correct me if I am wrong though. Besides that, kudos to the team for bringing the attention of the public to issues like this. This is really painful.
