It's songs like this that make me wonder why some people don't consider electronic music real music.
Hi, electronic artist here. People who often don't consider electronic music to be "real music" (whatever that means) tend to focus on the methods of which the music is constructed as well as shortcuts that are often used by said artists.
Take quantising for example: when an artist who uses MIDI plays out the notes for their song they have the option to then use quantising to keep all of those notes perfectly in beat, to some this is seen as cheating and can potentially remove the human element that gives the music its emotion, to me that's an oversimplification; while it is true that having some notes be slightly off beat and played at varying velocities does make the song sound less artificial it is important to remember the importance of the sounds that are played as well as the overall arrangement of the song. A Drone Ambient song for example can contain multiple quantised notes, but because the notes are so drawn out the listeners don't care if they're in beat or not.
But even if we leave the methods alone for a moment, one of the unfortunate things about synthesizers is the fact that they just sound naturally artificial which means the artist has to put in a bit more effort to make it sound more emotional. Sometimes this can be done with the addition of more traditional instruments (piano or guitar being firm favourites) and sometimes it's just a case of getting the sound just right. If you want an example of a song that gets most of its atmosphere from the synths then I would recommend Snow Park by Connect.ohm or even just most of Solar Fields' discography, I also make a lot of atmospheric music myself; just look for Mythic Suns on bandcamp or click on the bandcamp link on my channel, all of my music is name your price so you don't have to pay for any of it, though it would be appreciated :) .
Bottom line: electronic music gets its more negative reputation from basic misunderstandings regarding the construction of electronic music tracks and the more lazy of EDM artists who'll half arse something together just to make a quick buck. But overall it's actually a pretty interesting genre filled with a variety of different sub-genres (Space Ambient being a favourite of mine).
and not only real music, but a healing one!
@@MythicSuns TL;DR
People need to stop hating on the addition of the vocals since the original one came out... For one, it's seriously sick and it works. Secondly, respect an awesome producer for trying something new.
Agree
Victim of association; the vocal chopping effects are associated with a lot of generic dubstep songs so I guess a lot of people hate it because it reminds them of said genre. Personally I like it and think it compliments the atmosphere of the track.
@@MythicSuns I guess , but even with that you can’t deny her voice is beautiful
I wake and I miss the sea
What can I miss of the ether?
I sleep and I wish for not a thing at all.
But the rest of the rest that will take me
The rest of the rest that will take me,
Breathe air.
Now, which of these things, mother,
Will give the dust less age?
For none of them was or will be,
But they’re all given, find me.
(Can you breathe?)
Now, which of these things, mother,
Will give the dust less age?
For none of them was or will be,
But they’re all given, find me.
I wake and I miss the sea,
What can I miss of the ether?
I sleep and I wish for not a thing at all.
But the rest of the rest that will take me
The rest of the rest that will take me.
Now, which of these things, mother,
Will give the dust less age?
(Breathe air)
For none of them was or will be,
But they’re all given, find me.
The sea, the air, the earth are not a thing at all
The sea, the air, the earth are not a thing at all
But the rest of rest of
The sea, the air, the earth are not a thing at all
But the rest of the rest of
The sea, the air, the earth are not a thing at all
The lyrics are wrong ;-;
Life is getting to be far too much to me and I'm not fully convinced I still want to be alive, but this song is one of the few things that makes sense right now.

referring back to the actual video and the lyrics of this song, what does this song really mean? Just about all songs have meaning and it seems like this one's meaning would be really deep.
In my opinion she is dead and the song is about her return to dust, mother nature, decomposing. The sea, air and earth are taking her back. I might be wrong though. :)
the intro sounds like burial/four tet
Agreed, iTunes Radio from a Swedish house mafia channel.
the lyrics sound like a skrillex tune jajaja, i like more the version without lyrics
fuck skrillex, don't compar jon to a piece of trash
eclassripent Think he was comparing the Purity Ring gal to Skrillex. Still a stupid comparison.
eclassripent You can hate Skrillex if you want but this vocal effect is used by both in a very similar way, there's no doubt in that. BTW this is a Jon Hopkins video, learn from him and have a bit of respect and peace.
eclassripent He's obviously talking about the 0:17-0:20 vocal effect.
reminds me of foxes the singer
Ignorance and narrow-mindedness, pure and simple.
; )
lyrics spoiled the real feel!!
Because some people just listen to skrillex shit !
the video for this is disturbing
EYES ON THE ROAD OMG! lolol don't post a youtube comment
You need some new people
She's a good singer and it was a good idea to add vocals on this...but this vocal melody is nails-on-chalkboard level of annoying to me. Absolutely zero variation or clear direction of melody, it just meanders in place above the beat. This was a missed opportunity.
