Hi jon, if you read this comment I wanted to let you know that you composed a piece of music that I will no longer be able to do without for the rest of my life, every now and then I have to come back here, close my eyes and press play, I wanted to give you my most sincere compliments. Bravoooo 😉
Tauranid Benedek Tóth +Brady Do you all know Kiasmos? If not, I think you'd like them. It's Olafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen. I saw them and Rival Consoles at Village Underground a few weeks ago. They were unbelievable! Also, Chrome Sparks. Very pleasant.
I’m 52 years old. Once quite busily involved in music. Jon, Nils Frahm, Ólafur Arnalds, these three have created music I feel that I’ve been waiting for all my life. Inspirational. For the first time in 25 years, I have a piano. Now I’m off to buy an eBow so that I can rekindle that particular passion, with a little inspiration from this beautiful Guardian Session. Thanks The Grauniad 😉 Thanks Jon.
These 3 are also in my top 5 favorite artists/composers. Add to that list Max Richter and the film composer Hans Zimmer, and you have a lifetime of profoundly moving music to comfort you, in good times and bad.
for years surrounded by (supposedly) top artists (electronic scene) and those considered respectful... they only make noises and hide themselves after effects, and sequences... they can´t play a single chord, this young man does better with just one track
This song is actually my favourite song of all time, when I ask others to listen they think it's strange and they don't like it, it makes me feel sad, but young, heartbroken but happy
I gave this to all my work colleagues and friends in their Xmas card last year as a link….most didn’t reference it but those that did play it all the time and thanked me for enriching their lives
There is breathtaking new music on TH-cam from places like Iceland that are perhaps remote, at least psychologically, for some listeners. I'm shocked to find I'm the only "like" for some composers. It's sad that so much real talent isn't getting noticed.
Jon hopkins inspired me to start making music myself. Then he inspired me to quit making music, as i learned just how amazingly good what he does is and that i will never make anything like that myself. Not even if i devote all my free time to it. So now i'm back to just listening, but with a heightend sense of appreciation for music.
Couldn't agree more. His recent EP (Asleep Versions) is utterly wonderful and here he is breaking things down even further. Additionally, I find almost no one can remix his music to any great benefit as he's obviously crafted the originals to within an inch of their lives. His talent, it would appear, just keeps on going.
BigWelshMike I would check out Moderat remixes before saying nobody can remix his music to any benefit. His music however, is beautiful and inspirational on its own
Andrew McKenzie Moderat mixes don't do anything for me at all but completely respect someone else liking/loving them just as much (or maybe even more) than the originals. To each their own. :-)
the best musician the earth has seen. the absolute best. Compositions from JH belong in a space capsule to go to the aliens to show them how good we are
Wow, the better name for this song is: "Breathe this music", I love it. Close your eyes and you can feel that is so relaxed and peaceful, is a wonderful song.
I’ve been listening to his music for a long time now. He’s a gentle genius. He inspires me to make music. He’s an amazing artist and it is my dream to watch him perform live and probably meet him too.
A beautiful soundtrack for your day...I think this is what heaven sounds like...at least mine...like it was all ok even when it wasn't because it was yours...
such a lovely ambient track. Some good droning on the guitar. I do a lot of ambient tracks/ambient guitar info on my channel. This is really inspirational Thank you Jon Hopkins and the Guardian Music.
simply beautiful and actually not just one but two songs. of course 'breathe this air' and before that: 'nightfall / love theme' from 'how i live now' ost.

The work of Jon Hopkins is the most inspirational thing in music nowadays.
I'd say Nils Frahm is right up there too...
Brady Kennedy Than, I'll look into his work too :)
Saw them both in Berlin like two months ago. it was incredible :)!

@@HEIDIEMorenoCastelli who are you talkign about now who can't play a single chord?
Yann Tiersen
@@HEIDIEMorenoCastelli I don't think Jon's gonna agree with your opinion on effect and sequences lmao he's among those noisy artists now
Every time i listen to this song, it makes me cry. He puts so much emotion into his music and i love it.
Hiiii
I would argue that Immunity is his best song, who's with me?
For me it's light through the veins
I love Open eye Signal but Recovery is my favorite personally

Amazing…and kudos to the sound engineer for capturing this magic so well…
I think the true quality of a musical genius is somebody who can cross genres. Jon Hopkins is testimony to this.

😂
Piano is the language with no fakes within.
Jon Hopkins performs a beautiful, stripped-back version of Breathe This Air.
For me one of the most brilliant, most gifted, most versatile and most humble artists the world has ever seen. This music is pure love!
So moving.
This brings me to tears. Effortlessly generous and utterly beautiful.
What an era to be alive.
still the kindest thing to watch on youtube
He is genius composer and artist. We should appreciate his gift for the generation to come.
👍
So calming and soothing. The spaces play as importantly as the notes.
Wonderful sensitivity in this piece, simply from the soul!
So you made 4 different versions of this song, and each of them is incredibly awesome in its own way… you are a genius :D

th-cam.com/video/U8qgwFyrPdQ/w-d-xo.html Master Nils did it, you can't say that don't do anything or criticize or whatever else... ;-)
Music is music to me when it TAKES me somewhere. Im somewhere else when I listen to this. This piece of music has made my day.

Now I know why it's the asleep version. Because it makes you fall asleep
Improvised? I don't think so. Too good to be improvised.
My God...
which reverb plugin is being used?
I love the insperation and feel I sleep good love Bethany Cameron
The most important musician of a generation (IMHO) and that's coming from the Jeff Buckley uber-fan
0:06 song starts
How is the other guy making those guitar sounds? Anybody know what effects he's using?
Pretty sure it's just a reverb pedal with the reverb time set to infinite so that notes are just sustained.
It's called an Ebow and basicaly works like a magnet.
With his pal Leo.
