I got fluent in English just by watching TH-cam. Thousands hours of input in a target language is the best way to learn it. You just need some base vocabulary to get started with it, but once you can understand videos, learning becomes free.
Science doesn't support your claim. What science tells us is if you listen things, you'll be better at listening. If you speak in English, you'll be better at speaking and so on. You can't be fluent only by listening, you have to use the language. That's the whole point of this video.
@@SaludInformada would love to see, where is was disproven, because I've heard the opposite. Especially how it would explain my fluency, if I never spoke to or even met an English speaker.

Hi Christian. My name is Mike Woods and I am an Australian English teacher working in Taiwan. Your video is a breath of fresh air. I totally agree with you. A long time ago I arrived at the same conclusions. Teaching English is an industry, videos, books, magazines etc etc etc. It all makes money. This does not mean that online teachers are bad people. Only that they fall into the same pattern as everyone else. When my students tell me that they must learn grammar I ask them two questions: "Could you speak Chinese when you were seven years old?" They always reply, "Yes, I could." I then ask them, "How many grammar lessons did you have BEFORE you were seven years old? They just look at me and cannot answer. There are so many questions, like this one, that a teacher can ask a student to expose the truth of the situation. So, good luck, keep going and I wish you all the best for the future.
Hi Christian! I feel like a "normal" person when I watch your videos. In addition to teaching, you can motivate without deluding or making people feel more limited than they already are. I know your channel a few months ago, but I wish I had known it for a while. Thanks for everything! Hearing it awakens many things that were dormant in me. A big hug with total gratitude. 💙💞
You are a good teacher and person because you dont care our money and your goal is only teaching english us.I am watching you for 2 days and my ideas changed positive about learning english, thank you for everything the best teacher.
I think english is a huge subject and you need to learn step by step if you do this you will learn a lot of english and youtube give a full input to our learning.
I'm a seventy six year old native English speaker of the English language. I have been living in China for eighteen years. My eight year old Chinese step grandson, loves to correct mistakes that I make when I read stories to him that he knows. Sometimes I make mistakes when I'm not reading out loud. We never stop learning, laugh at small mistakes, we will remember them better that way, and feel good about it. A great video, great content.
I will call this video a $1,000,000 video on language learning of this century. You opened my mind and thank you a million times. I want to apply these epic rules to my programming language courses with your permission. Love from the Turkish Republic.
Totally agreed with you! I am from Asia. When I see people on youtube say "you can get fluency of certain any native language in 90 days, I would say "In your dream." I would say at least five year and more for learning a new language.
I don't agree with you Christian about only one point. Such positive and purpose driven podcasts especially all your podcasts help improve English and give people knowledge about right approach towards language . I say it as a polyglot who knows 13 languages and say as a language learners at the same time who continue learning languages. But what it comes to the other points you are completely RIGHT! Just keep going. You are doing exceptionally a great job!
Hi Christian, I don't agree with your claim to stop trying to learn English via youtube. I am a 72 year old Italian who loves to know languages. When I was young in Rome the war had just ended and there was hunger. For me there was no possibility to study, and even less to study languages. I am now retired and have been in Kenya for about a year where I tried to learn the local language (Kiswahili) and the official language (English) Since I discovered your channel, thanks to you, I have learned a lot. Now I'm back in Italy and I take advantage of your help. What I like most is that your "lessons" are like conversations because your way of dealing with linguistic issues is engaging ... I am intrigued and make the topic absolutely interesting. Now I have returned to Rome and I have no opportunity to practice or converse in English, for this I must thank you for the help and the company you offer me .... Yes Christian I have not used an inadequate term. You offer me company, education and every day intriguing points of view on learning methods. Happy New Year and thanks again.
I agree with you a hundred percent. In fact, you can learn a new language if you make it an integral part of everyday life and you read, speak, write and hear regularly when someone speak in the new language. In addition, you are active and apply in practice what you have learned in the new language.
Hi Cristian! I am Brazilian from Petrópolis (Rio de Janeiro) and I considered this video really spectacular. It is simple, direct and at the same time sophisticated (why not?). You were very realistic.
Hey Christian, today I have to disagree a bit. Your first point is that we should stop watching TH-cam videos. In my opinion a better point is rather stop watching the wrong videos. Actually, TH-cam helps me a lot to get better in English... I wish you the best for 2020 :)
Yeah but he meant videos that are about English, e.g. "10 different ways to say thank you" etc. TH-cam videos that are in English and about whatever topics you like to watch videos about are fine, I don't think Christian meant those.
Hi Christian, Daniel here. As always, excellent video again! I would like to say that your number 1 tip surprises me. I watch TH-cam videos all the time, and exactly the ones you named. A few weeks ago, I started following your videos, and I loved them, you give me back the desire to be fluent, to be successful in my English. Hey. In 2019 i gave you some shit on here because you said you couldn't get fluent without speaking and communicating. In 2020 i've realised you're right. I got 'receptively fluent' in French just by watching TV and reading. For actual fluency though, the *ONLY* things i could say fluently in a conversation, with ease, were things i repeated out loud again and again. Song lyrics, set phrases, etc. Some speaking does emerge on its own without ever speaking. It does. But it's not enough for fluency. Or if it is it takes too long for most people who don't have 10,000 hours before they can start speaking. For fluency i now believe using what we already know and building on that is the fastest way to actual spoken fluency. So....an apology from me. Good luck with your life and your business in 2020. :)
