Building a driveway & RV PADS

  • ℹ️ IN THIS EPISODE: In March, we bought a house in Citrus County, Florida. We bought a property with enough space to build some RV pads to store our Travel trailer on, but also so that friends can moochdock. Here is our journey of installing the pads. Concrete prices were ridiculously expensive, so we had no choice but to go for gravel. We show you the challenges and decisions that we had to make to make this happen.
    Since filming, we have had more challenges with the power supply. That's a subject for a whole other video that we will release once we have it solved.

    Looking good! An idea for planting a privacy screen between the neighbors is graceful bamboo. It is a clumping bamboo so it doesn’t run and is not invasive, it is fast growing a provides an excellent screening. They use it a lot in he big theme parks. I sold my house in Florida. I’m in the smoky mountain area looking for land for the next month. I’m hoping I can get the land, the septic, the well drilled and the excavation and grading done along with the gravel driveway. The companies here when I call them they act like are too busy. Business must be good for them. Lord I am not going to back to FL there’s no turning back. I’m getting a 40 foot 5th wheel with 4 slide outs to live in full time. With a carport to protect it from the rain and sun. Some of this land is so scary driving on. Steep. Im super scared things won’t work out but trying to have faith that God has a plan

    Wow! You built a pad just for us!? Guess we'll have to upgrade our driveway and power supply before your next visit. You're always open to suggestions, so... If the space was there and the money was there I personally would have made it a loop so you could pull all the way around and be able to drive straight out. It would also have your camp side facing the house. Maybe in phase 5.😉
    As far as getting to the house, a nicely designed garden path would be nice maybe with a bench half way to just sit and enjoy nature.
    As far as water and electricity, run it to the back between the pads. That's why they make extension cords and extra hoses.
    Concrete 67K+/-

    • @BrazenBrits
      @BrazenBrits  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup, these are all things we need to figure out. Good plan about the path. Luckily, most of the land is small trees and shrubs, so won’t take a lot to clear a nature path.
      We did consider the loop, but cost and ongoing maintenance along with the fact of cutting down more trees was off putting. Not scared of a little trailer backing are you Chief? 😉

    Ha! We just did something similar here in West Palm but instead of gravel, we went with crushed asphalt. Mind blowing how much concrete is in Florida. What is nice with your project is that you have some natural cover for the RV.

    • @BrazenBrits
      @BrazenBrits  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Fellix, we are really happy they managed to keep the tree cover and keep a lot of the brush to shield our neighbors from having to look at our rig. We didn't really consider crushed asphalt as we worry about how it would hold up in the middle of summer. Is your working out ok?

    • @BrazenBrits
      @BrazenBrits  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Watch this space! It’s a great idea and it might actually be our only option as the distance from the house to pads could be an issue. We didn’t really want to pay another monthly service fee, but we might have no choice

  • @4everlandrv988
    @4everlandrv988 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You might also. consider asphalt rather than concrete. Much cheaper, and easier to repair if needed.

    • @BrazenBrits
      @BrazenBrits  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We worry about the Florida heat and it melting. Not sure if that’s a thing here, but asphalt in the UK got all kinds of weird if there was ever a heatwave. Especially with things like stabilizer jacks.

    For water, can you put a well in back there between the pads?
    My concrete figure was based on prep, minimum 6"depth, and edged.
    I know it's "done" but I would extend the incline going in to decrease the rise in the angel. It only scratches a little, but enough "little" times will make a big gouge sooner or later.

      Not sure about the Well. I don’t thing it would take much to run water from the house. I guess it’s all about weighing up costs. We do actually have a dedicated irrigation well, but it’s the other side of the property.
