Clearly whoever said don’t pamper them has never had one. I don’t know how to not pamper mine! It’s her house she just lets us live in it and be her servants! Shih Tzus don’t have owners they have staff! Shih-Tzus are the best!🥰
Ohoho, my wife isn't having any of that! And the dog will obey her every command, instantly! It's like a check and balance between her, and myself and our daughter. It's either that, or anarchy, like you have. We live in Southeast Asia, where there are 2 kinds of dogs, dogs that never come inside, and dogs that never go out, off leash. Its a jungle out there, with rabies, cobras, all kinds of poisonous plants, etc, There has to be a check and balance, and I'm grateful to my wife, who has no problem with being the bad cop .But, to be fair, my wife takes care of the bathing and grooming, buys her toys and outfits, but she absolutely will lay down the law.
@@aasthagoyal8268 oh my gosh, I’m so sorry! I love the name Oreo! I’m going to find a friend for my 6 month old Shih-Tzu! I have also been thinking about unique names! Oreo is perfect!
My love bug is absolutely wonderful. He's 13 years old. He is my service dog and he has proven himself more than once that he is there to help me when I'm sick. He watches over me and takes care of me when I need help. He lets other people know that I'm in distress. I'll never have another one like him. He is just so good. I take him to church with me. He goes in the stores and restaurants. He doesn't bark. He's very obedient and he loves people. But when he's with me in public he stays there and waits for me to allow people to come and pet him. So I have the perfect Shih Tzu. He's a petite Shih Tzu and he's gray and white and I just he's my whole heart. I'm 74 years old and I've had a number of Shih tzus in my life. So thank you for all the information. Other information I wanted to get you. I got him when he was 6 weeks old and now he's 13 and he's my whole world
My son got a shih tzu and he told me I needed his brother! I got him, and love him to the end of the world! He’s almost 10 months old, and is my constant companion! He’s a great loving dog, he’s getting more lap loving, and makes every step I do! My husband is sick and in the bed and he’s been such a great little boy to help me keep my life from going completely wild! I’m so glad I have him, he’s quite different from his brother. His brother is named Ace, and mine is named Gorgi! No other name would’ve suited him! He’s a wonderful support little person! I talk to him so much I seem to forget he’s not a human person! So much companionship and love from something so little! While we both love him immensely, he’s really spoiled to me!! Sorry this is so long, but he’s my world since I can’t get out and see people and all! He’s my world and loves me unconditionally! I love my son for insisting that I buy him! I’m forever grateful!
Don't apologize for loving and needing that sweet boy Gorgi. Cherish every moment you have with him, because you two have mutual unconditional love. I know because I had a sweet boy named Tucker who I adopted at 4 months old in 2008, and he just passed away from stomach cancer on Easter Sunday. He was the love of my life, and I talked to him like he was a human cause I think he almost was. I've had 7 shih tzus in 48 years, and Tucker was only one that seemed to be human. I'd look into his eyes, kiss his tiny nose and tell him I loved him, and he acknowledged that he loved me too. However, we did have issues with separation anxiety when I had to leave home without him. The last month he was alive I tried to take him with me everywhere, and gave him whatever he wanted. Think he knew he was dying. He was such a good, good boy, so I too was blessed on June 14, 2008 to get to adopt the sweetest shih tzu boy ever. Your story gives me hope that I might adopt another sweet guy like Tucker someday when my broken heart heals. Though no other shih tzu or human can ever take Tucker's place, he was my number ONE furry son.💔😥
I have had shih tzus for 17 years, one was put to sleep 7 years ago I still think of him alot. I now have a darling boy and he is my best pal and I try to do all the things mentioned in your article. I am nearing 90 years old and I would be very lonesome without my lovely boy he is smart, happy and alot of company for me.
My wife and I had our first Shi-Tzu for 17.5 years and our new girl is about to turn 4. She is literally like our child and we love her like one. Shi-tzu’s are the best dogs and companions ever
@@hov3968 mine too. even if it's a few feet...she doesn't miss a beat and never takes her eyes off me. does yours have to sleep literally between your legs? or at our feet with her head on your foot so she is alerted if I even try to escape to the bathroom or kitchen . its crazy
Count your blessings for being allowed to love and care for your sweet shih tzu kid. I just lost my 14 year old boy in April, and I'm hurting, but thankful for every wonderful moment I had with him. Hope you have many, many great years with your shih tzu.
Yes, I have a Shih Tzu, name Oreo 9 yrs, will be 10 yrs in 10 Nov 2022. I keep his hair cut short, in summer, I let grow in winter months. We love him, have no problems, he is amazing in house, traveling etc. I pamper him all time especially while we travels. He a world traveler, he go church with us to movie etc.
I was a shihtzu owner until he died June 2020 at 17 years. He became blind for about a year or two but still was able to stay somewhat active. When his hip problems became very difficult we were torn between taking him to the Vet or letting him die at home. We made an appointment with the Humane Society (where we adopted him when he was 1 year old) but then he seemed to be getting better. I had just finished radiation treatments 2 months before he died (after being diagnosed with cancer) while under (Covid) stay at home orders so it was a very hard time in many ways. We made many mistakes but we believe he knew he was loved and we took care of him the best we could.
That’s so sad. Our dogs are a family member. We went through something very similar four months ago. She was 18 years old, she was going blind in her one good eye, she was born with her left eye blind. She was losing weight and becoming incontinent and slept almost all the time. We had to have her put down because she was so sick. I’m the strongest between me and my sister, so I took her in. I was a blubbering mess. 😭 It was so hard.
@@nadamin8 15 is getting on, She will tend to sleep a lot more now as life becomes more tiresome.. Although these dogs do like their regular naps anyway lol. I had a shih tzu girl recently passed away, 17 years! She had been blind for a while by that point, And legs were getting stiffer, And the last thing to start happening was she struggled to hold her business in and lost interest in food for a couple days... I took her to the vet and both agreed it was her time to be set free.. I was such a mess 😭😭
@@helenHTID Thank you so much for sharing your story. I realized that one day I will have similar.... She is getting blind now. So sad... Wish I can give my one eye to her
I had a Maltese shih tzu named Zoey and she lived 14 years 5 months. I now have a registered 6 month old boy named Chewy that was my Christmas gift this past Christmas. He is my world! I hit the jackpot with this puppy. Completely potty trained after 4 months and loves to be brushed and combed after each potty visit outside. I even bought a cordless groomer kit off Amazon and groom him myself. I’ll save a lot of money this go round. And to top it off he loves to get a bath!🥰❤️🐶🤗
Hi Denise, wow you really did hit the jackpot! What a good boy he is! I would love to be able to groom Violet myself! I’m afraid to try for a couple of reasons 1 being my family has pretty much forbidden me from even trying! I absolutely suck at trying to cut around their face! Another reason is because I’m always afraid if she twitches I don’t want to hurt her! However all of that being said I took her to a local groomer for her first and only groom to date when she was 6 months old. I have had dogs my entire adult life and never has a groomer kept an animal for literally 13 hours and told me they had to put a muzzle on my 6 month old puppy first time being groomed! NEVER AGAIN! So I am going to do some research and training and give it my best shot! Anyone have any helpful tips? Wish me luck or wish Violet luck! I had no idea when I left a random comment that 6 months later I would still be getting replies! I love the stories! It’s heart warming to know that there might be hope for humanity after all! On a large part because of the Unconditional love we get from our fur babies! 🥰🐶
Yep. We had one that we would take for a ride after Jeopardy, and everytime she heard the Jeopardy music she would get excited because she knew what was coming.
And in most countries there mentioned tiger white tiger white zebras that have a stripe that's different different countries have different animals that are mentioned that are very important
Ohhh that is such a good age 🙏❤️ Can you please please tell me 1) what sort of food did you give your baby 2) and how log were her walks/exercises …. Thank you so much 🙏
Our baby shit tzu so spoiled every i bath him. If im sick he is looking at as if comforting me he always streching her legs showing to walk outside im afraid if leaved as someday😂😂😂😂
I found my little guy in a blizzard. I broke my ankle that day too! I was able to corner him in a parking lot and bring him home. No chip, wasn’t fixed. Just all alone out in the cold. He is a little Angel. He has brought so much joy to our family. Oh boy. Well my Huckleberry sure is pampered. He does cry out loud and loud if I leave him to long( like to go do some needed chores. He absolutely loves baths and getting his hair brushed. He is my joy along with my other two pets( Maltese Luigi and Bugsy the tiny cat) God Bless you all and God Bless Shitz
I have a Maltese shih tzu! He’s around 14 weeks old now and he’s the most adorable thing ever, he’s very loyal, caring and he even shares his food with my cats sometimes which is so sweet. He’s a total sweetheart and I will never stop bragging about him!
Me too, my "Malshi" is two years old now, I got him at 8 weeks. He's actually very vocal and a bit bratty, he's my wingman though. And yes very very cute!
I have a female Maltese/Shih tzu. Sundae is 7 months old. I’ve had purebred shih tzus in the past and I have to say Sundae is by far the sweetest dog I’ve ever had. She loves to cuddle. She is so friendly and outgoing. She loves to play and has her toys scattered all over our house. We love her so much!
Wonderful breed! We’re going on our 3rd ShihTzu each previous 2 have Enjoyed a Great Life being spoiled & mainly ❤️. First-Scooter lived 17 years 6. Months. Second-Zoeye lived 13 years. Third-Buddy is 18 months & going strong. These ShihTzu’s. had All adjusted to our Lifestyle ( work & play). There’s No other breed for Us ,❤️❤️❤️
Yeah that confused me, they said not to pamper them. I didn’t think that was possible😂 Shih Tzus are the absolute best! My first Shih Tzu, his name was Stewart. He was black and white and in his younger years we let his hair grow out some but it was so hard to take care of. In his later years we cut him very short and he looked so cute with short hair. He was the cutest, sweetest little boy but he had some fierce attitude! I loved him SOO MUCH! He loved car rides and I took him shopping with me often. I took him swimming with me. My parents have a pool next door. He didn’t like to swim but I would let him float on a boogie board and he really seemed to like that. Almost every time we went to the beach we took him and our yellow lab Toby, that we lost back in 2017😭They both were my best buddies❤️We lost Stewart in Oct of 21😭I was devastated💔We had to put him down. Kidney failure that came on so fast and couldn’t be stopped. Putting him down was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. He was almost 15 years old. I treated him like a baby❤️ We weren’t really ready for another dog but it seemed meant to be. Early in Feb we came across another Shih Tzu that was eight weeks old for sale. She is the cutest girl Shih Tzu puppy I ever laid eyes on, so I had to have her. She was very expensive but worth every penny. Her name is Gabby, which fits her well because her tongue is always hanging out. I absolutely love it! I have not cut her hair yet because her hair is so pretty. I don’t want to lose her puppy coat. She is the prettiest color light brown with dark tips and some white throughout with dark highlights. She is just the prettiest little thing and I plan on totally spoiling her sooooo much! I want a whole house full of Shih Tzus❤️🐶
They are really wonderful pups. I have a male, Pokey. He's light brown w some dark in his face. He can understand orders so well. He's a great companion. Easy to please and so cute. He's fierce with a puppy here that is bossy to him. We all have to respect him for the strength he shows. He is fierce to Boss that puppy. It's 5 times his size. I wish you and your puppy a wonderful life. I can hear your love for her. GOD Bless you always.... 🌹
@@beverlycook8679 aw thank you so much that’s very nice of you to say! She sure brightens my day and I don’t know what I would do without Gabby. I will be a forever Shih tzu dog owner❤️ God bless you too! I plan on breeding her because she is so pretty and comes from a well tested bloodline. But I don’t want to talk about that yet! My baby is only six months old❤️ But I think we’re going to look for a male Shih Tzu to purchase soon so she has a boyfriend😂
My Shih-Tzu just passed this July 2 2024, he was 13 years old, the best dog I’ve ever had, miss him everyday. It hurts every time I think of him, he was my baby, I never thought I would love a dog that much. It’s definitely like losing a family member. RIP my sweet Koa, mommy love and miss you so much ♥️🐕🙏
I had to have mine put down today.... it was the toughest decision I ever had to make in my life. He was the most loving , most trusting, best little friend I ever had in my life. I will miss him until I die. If I ever get another dog... it will be a shih tzu
@@meghanelizabeth6710 He got cushings disease and went down hill fast. Especially the last few days he just got worse and worse until he started only being able to breathe through his mouth and then he started having trouble with that so it was time to put him down
My Shih Tzu is 13 today, her name is Mo,ey and she is well cared for. She is my third Tzu with in 20 yrz. They are amazing pets. Thank you for your videos, Kathy
We had one mixed with yellow and white and some dark brown male Shi Tzu previous owner neglected him. We took him in about 2 years of age and we loved and adored him so much; he lived with us 15 years. He died 3 months shied and he would been 18 years old. Now it’s has been 3 years since he passed we missed him everyday😭he’s like a child to us.
I understand. As sweet as they are they're a very head strong breed and will get away with what we allow. I'm not much on discipline and I really don't like to use a harsh tone but when mine is determined to go where he's not supposed to like running across the street to my neighbor's house well, I really get stern with him, Picking him up while he's growling ferociously at me as if he will bite me but he doesn't because he seems to get that I mean business. However when I put him down and told him to get to the house he turned and looked over his shoulder still growling that mean growl but he did go as I instructed. They're the smartest little guys I've ever had.
1. Never leave them without grooming. 2. Never Pamper your Shitszhu. 3. Never leave them without regular health check. 4. Never leave them without regular exercise. 5. Never feed them low quality food.
I have a shih tzu rescue Oliver! I got him at 5 months and he's 7 months now. Unfortunately, he wasn't trained at all, so we are starting off with a few difficulties. He's so smart but also stubborn. He's been used to doing whatever he wants but is getting better at listening. Potty training has been a challenge to say the least. Praise and treats help with the training. I just love my Oliver. He comes to work with me at night to the women and children's homeless shelter that I work at. He loves the attention! He loves to be pampered most times and at others, just wants to play, He's a keeper.
These are such adorable little dogs I had a little Shih Tzu for the past 3 year my little Precious came into my life when she was almost 12 years old she was my constant companion 24/7 I loved her very much I lost her only a few weeks ago I miss her so very much 🐕💗😪
They can become stubborn but only if you're harsh with them. They want to please you and my bear will do anything if encouraged and spoken to with love. They are a majical love bears and pampering is a huge part of thier language. I melt every single time I look at him and think about how lucky I am to know him. They just shine.
We got our female Shih Tzu from a rescue at the age of 3. She’s adorable! Great companion. Has the run of 4 1/2 acres all to herself. Stubborn at times, and always lovable! 🥰
Love mine too! So smart. I talk to him all the time and he loves it. I think he understand so many words. I have to be careful no one sees me or they will think I am crazy😄
@@ohyeah3365 Don't worry about. The smart dogs can learn 1000 words. I have 3 years old yorkie, Bear, and I am talking to him too. He is learning every day. He is my body and I love him very much. I raised him like a human child.
I have a great and lovable dog. My dog gets me thru the day. Alot of work but I love my dog and my dog loves me alot.i rescued my dog and a big reward for my dog and me. Fabulous dog I have.
My Shih-Tzu is my world. He is a beautiful 3-year-old boy named Chewie (short for Chewbacca😀) He loves car rides, snuggles, grooming time, people, treats, toys, and playing. He is the best! I fell in love with the breed when I got my first Shih-Tzu when I was a teenager and this is the best dog breed out there in my opinion. I love my baby to the moon and back and treasure every moment we have together!
Love the name. Our newest puppy is Orbit. His long name since our last name starts with a B is OB1 D-O-G...a tribute to Star Wars since they look like little Ewoks 😊
We have a 6yr old Shitz tzu Yorkie. We have had her since she was about 9 months old (she was found running in the traffic so was rescued). She is the best. We love her so much. As most say she is loved - not spoiled ha ha-but she minds very well and likes to be whereever We are and loves to travel and wants to go whenever we go out the door. She is our baby for sure and everyone loves her.
So true! My Layla is the perfect pet for a little old lady in an apartment. We go walking 2-4 times a day... short, up and down stairs. We both love the grooming time!!
We are lucky to have two, sisters, we love them to bits and they are so loving in return. I have had many dogs over the years, large and small, but Shih Tzu would be at the top of my list to recommend, absolutely gorgeous
I never had a shih tzu I had chihuahuas, but 10mos ago I agreed to foster a male shih tzu who had just turned one, with my first month with him I decided to keep him. He is the absolute best companion, he was under weight and very matted when I got him but once he got his vaccines updated and all that matted hair removed he became the best friend. He's never messed in my house he let's me know when wants out he starts running back and forth in front of me, he loves to play with his toys, he's great with my grandchildren, my 5yr old granddaughter treats him like her baby doll she puts him in her stroller and he's completely happy with it. He very much is a pampered pooch, he has his own wardrobe, PJs for bed and loves getting in his sweats. He loves going for walks, I'm so sorry I didn't have them when my kids were young they are great companions. He runs the show here and he just cracks me up. I love him dearly.
I AM a Shih Tzu owner and you got so much right in your video accept for one thing and this came by accident. Our neighbor took down their old barn and suddenly 1000 mice were looking for new homes. I had always left the sliding glass door to our deck and backyard open so the cat and dogs could come and go at will. Suddenly we had mice doing the same! My black miniature Shih Tzu, Mysha, got together with one of her same size daughters and decided they could pack hunt. They would lie in wait on either end of our entertainment center and rush in for the kill. I would find dead mice in their water dish and half-eaten and injured ones around their bed areas. The others had no interest and as we gradually got the situation under control I had to find other things for MYSHA to hunt because that is ALL she wants to do. I keep Mysha and her other daughter, Tiny Bel who is a gold with black tips teacup, both in long coat so you can imagine how it is walking the paths with Tiny Bel the 4 lb little pink bowed princess close by and Mysha the 7 lb warrior princess hunting the weeds and bushes to the side. I have to let her to do it because that is what she loves to do. oh and she will seek where I hand signal her and looks like a tiny drug-sniffing dog going around cars head deep in the wheel wells. As for food, I had a lot of trouble finding food they would both eat with any kind of gusto. Tiny Bel will eat pretty much any vegetable and loves meat while Mysha was raised on a healthy raw meat diet and is still wants that. They ARE the best little dogs, so quiet people in my apartment building are surprised to see them and perfectly housebroken to the point they will wake me up at night if they need to go out. I'm very proud of both of my girls. They are a lot of work but a lot of company.
I have one, just turned eight months old. She's awesome, like her name Royal. She's jet black, N talks back n love her family, she listens very well on commands. I wouldn't trade her for the world.
Our first dog Molly was a Maltese Shih Tzu . She was my baby and I loved her so much. She lived until she was nearly 16. I still miss her very much. But we also have our other two Maltese Shih Tzus…Bailey who is now 15 and Looby-Lou (named after my childhood doll) who is 5. She is also a mummy’s girl. :) We just added to the family too but this time we got a pure Shih Tzu. His name is Teddy, he’s black and white, 16 weeks old, and such a cutiepie. He really loves his cuddles and loves to play, but he’s also the naughtiest little pup we’ve ever had! lol He’s our little work in progress. 😉💕🐾
You are Very lucky to be able to afford that many little characters. Would be ver helpful for many if you can share secret for their long life … like diet …. usual exercise etc Thank you 🙏
@@artpoet299 Hi Art Poet, thank you 😊 yes we are very lucky, but I should add that our first two dogs cost less than $400 each (in 2000 and then 2007) and our third (in 2016) cost a quarter of what we paid for our newest baby (in 2021). The prices have gone through the roof now haven’t they. I do hope they come back down again as it makes it so very difficult for families to add a dog to their family doesn’t it. We nearly didn’t get our newest, Teddy, because of that very reason. As far as what we do to ensure a long life…I don’t think we actually do anything special. The breeds themselves are known to live a long life. But other than that we just feed them good quality food, try to keep their weight in a healthy range (didn’t succeed with our first, Molly, on that one 😬 lol) and give them oodles of love. They don’t go for walks every single day, it depends more on the weather and what’s happening so it’s not like they’re being exercised constantly either. They’re all indoor dogs and sleep in our bedroom and they all have known/know how much they are loved. Other than that though I don’t think there’s anything else that we’ve done differently. Oh we do squeeze a capsule of fish oil in to their food when they’re older. It really helps with stiff joints. But that’s it really. 🙂🐾
Ming was my service dog. I adored him and relied on his training to keep me alive and safe. When he failed his training he endangered me. I was hospitalized for a couple of weeks and the caregivers didn't treat him well. It was a nightmare for my beloved dog and I. Everything went to hell after that both due to his boarding being awful and me in recovery with lots of movement and pain issues. Also don't think another service dog is possible and i am grieving for him still. He is alive and well and happy but still gone to me.
I am training my ShihTzu as a service dog. I started with treats but he is very small at less than 10 pounds. So I find that for longer training sessions, lots of praise and petting works great! We also do a play session afterwards. Fetch and chase is his favorite and he can play for hours. My biggest problem is the potty training…
My shih tzu was a service dog. I really miss him. His name was Cooper and he was so comedic and always made me laugh. A big snuggle bug too. He definitley had a mind of his own though. But he was so patient and willing to learn. I will never forget him.
My little Maggie passed away at the age of 21 two months ago. I miss her so much. A funny but true story, Maggie carried a grudge. My friend told Maggie she would take her for a walk as soon as she walked our Labradoodle, Chloe. When she returned with Chloe it had started to rain so she told Maggie her walk would have to wait till the next day. Maggie would not have anything to do with her for 2 whole days, turning her head to the side if my friend looked at her. I kept saying, I'm telling you she carries a grudge.
You described our senior shitzu to a T! He’s a rescue (got him at 10 y/o) that didn’t receive much personal attention as a puppy so he’s not a cuddled. It’s so sad but we are slowly winning him over. He’s a picky eater and to get him to eat we started this ritual of giving him an all over body scratch. Yep, he won’t eat now without on! But at 15 y/o he’s worth it.
Hi Pam, this restored my faith in humanity. There might just be hope for us yet! Made my heart smile! They are absolutely worth the the full body rub! I lost my 16 year old shihtzu last October! Not a day goes by that I don’t miss him horribly! If we treated people like our dogs treat us the world would be a very different place! The oldest living shihtzu is 23. So hopefully you have a few more years with him! In my experience all of my Shih Tzus have been picky eaters! We have started giving our shihtzu puppy fresh pet and she really likes it. However my husband has started cooking her chicken and steak for dinner! She’s not spoiled! LOL. OK she might be a little spoiled! Have a great night! Spoil your fur baby to pieces! 🥰
@@lisaadams6253 I started cooking chicken for him some time ago. And switch back and forth from green beans to sweet potatoes. My husband says Chewy eats better than he does!!!! It’s amazing how they can communicate their likes and dislikes without saying a word.

our shih tzu is intelligent, cuddly , very good at communicate its needs. He is a elderly and we got him as a rescue case. At the age of 8 he learnt how to play with toys now he loves his toys. At 9 yrs he finally realize he can say hi to other dogs in a nice way and don't feel the urge to hide from them. He loves grooming and have his teeth brushed.
Shih Tzu's are the absolute best companions and company to have. I have the small breed, a beautiful little girl. Her name is "Cookie" and she is 5 years old , I've had her since she was 5 wks old. I had to nurse her with a small syringe on goats milk. To the point that my daughter says Cookie thinks she came out of my body 😂 that she doesn't know she's a dog. I tell her that I am her mother because I'm all she knows. So then, at 8 weeks, I trained her to eat small pebbled dog food. I actually prepare her foods with real chicken breasts with peas & carrots. Occasionally, I'll give her fruits like strawberries, blueberries, watermelon, apples, pears, and Cantelope I still give her treats and hard food, but only the best food, no byproduct crap. I love my baby she's like my 2nd daughter. She's very smart! She scences emotions I've been diagnosed with ptsd, anxiety, and chronic depression. I am in the process of training her as my psychiatric service dog. She's very protective of me. I can't imagine being without her in my life. Next year, I will get another one, maybe a boy, and name him Oreo 😂. I will be a forever Shih Tzu owner. They are wonderful dogs. They are like human, they have very keen scenses. They are great with imprinting also, believe it or not. I love talking about my baby girl, as you can tell. Sorry this is so long, but I love sharing things about my girl. Thanks for reading. Y'all be blessed with your babies, and have a very Merry Christmas 🎄 ...
Thank you for all the info! I have a pure breed Shih Tzu that will be 11 on the 15 of July. I have had her since she was 8 weeks old, her name is Maggie. She was the smallest puppy in her litter and even today she only weighs 8 pounds. She is about half the size of a regular Shih Tzu. I am her Groomer, and I trim her as needed. She is brushed at least once a day and some times more often because she loves to be brushed. She gets a bath as needed, it depends on the outside conditions. I can tell by the feel of her coat when she need a bath. She is so soft and loves to be petted. I am retired and she and I are on the same page.
I have a 6yr old shih-tzu and his name is Leo. He gets regular exercise but dosent get proper health care and not even dog food. Thank you so much for this video from now I will buy good quality dog food and groom him regularly 🥰

My last dog I had until he was about 13 and he was a Maltese Shitzu x and was much healthier than my previous purebreds. He went to doggy heaven 6 years ago. I’m tossing up whether to get another dog or not. Because all the dogs I’ve had have given me great joy.
YEEEES! SO DOES MINE! She knows when I'm about to end a phone call, when I grab my purse, take a showerand other things. They are also very nosey and big stalkers 😂
I had the best years with my mocha boy, he was definitely not like any other dog cause he acted like he was a human, he would always try eating people food, he always followed my mother around, my mom even treated mocha like he was her own child, he jumped on the couch and would sleep with me,, and he wasn't scared to even try to fight other dogs, and he even enjoyed being pampered sometimes, mocha was my best friend and the most human dog out anyone, and I miss him everyday
Just lost my 14 year old black and white baby boy Tucker 2 months ago on Easter Sunday to stomach cancer. He was my best dog, ever! He loved me with all his sweet heart, and I loved and needed him just as much. I know my precious furry boy is in heaven now, and I tell him how much I miss him everyday. I understand your heartbreak over the loss of your sweet Mocha. Shih Tzus are just awesome dogs, but I've been dog mom to 7 of them since 1974 and each of them had their own unique human like personality. Five were loyal and sweet natured, two were kind of mean and overbearing. My white and tan girl Molly is 15 years old and has high blood pressure and glaucoma, but she's hanging in here for me. She's a very, very good girl and I'm so thankful to be her caregiver for as long as God will let her stay with me. Still I miss my Tucker boy, he made me smile everyday. He was the cutest and best little guy.💔😭😥
He is my one and only love so he is pampered to the maximum level...he is sometimes spoiled and manipulative but since i chose him to be my baby I am willing to give him the best in life....
Sometimes I walk my neighbors shih tzu during her workday. He loves going on the park trail, exploring, smelling, and running and tolerates a good long walk very easily. When he sees me he knows I’m the fun outdoor auntie who’s going to run with him. He’s very well behaved, impressively smart, a great guy. He loves to be around children, but I’d like to know how to keep him from jumping up on me and others in excitement. His best friend is a 95 lb obedience trained lab who is also under two years old; they are great together.
I taught mine not to jump up (sometimes friends come over with a dress on and don't want to be jumped on..bad manners) so by repeatedly telling her to 'butt plant' (the word sit is reserved for lap time...when I say sit, she knows it means on my lap..no I do not pamper her at all....) and I would gently push her back end to the floor. She rather quickly learned that if she wanted a pat when I get home, she first has to do a butt plant.
We just have picked up our Shih Tzu puppy today! He (Pudge) is already in love with my nephew! He has his vet appointment scheduled and we bought the food the breeder recommended. We have found he loves chasing my nephew and curling in our laps!
Thank you for all the info! My Shih Tzu is a 5 yr old male about 14 lbs. His name is Pepper. I got him from my neighbors litter of 8 puppies at 2 mo old. I Love Pepper so much but It's been pretty challenging training him, he still has some accidents in the house. I take him to a Groomer every few months and have him shaved down during warmer weather. Pepper has a basket full of his toys and by the end of the day they are scattered all through the house. He Loves to play tug a war and will bring me one of his toys to play and throw it so he can chase it, then bring it back to me to throw it again....hehehe!!!
I got one name brownie...shes pretty nice one...one day she got pregnant to our neighbor's dog...actually her playmate...then she had 4 puppies but its a pain in the neck her first born is breech...so we had to bring her to animal clinic..luckily the next 3 are normal delivery...so the owner of brownie as im just taking care of her enjoyed the puppies...vaccinations are complete and my boss doesnt want to sold them just gave them to close relatives.. then on same year she got pregnant again..and again first born is breech...its big and so it never survive..then we tried hard to deliver the next four and happily we are happy again...then 2 were sold and just given away free...now one left and im not ready to dispatch him...he's so cute..he's a male and might impregnate his mom when he's older...still hoping he can have a buyer soon...🙂 Vaxx are all complete and updated...regular but summer is not good for them ticks and fleas are all present...
@@malynvillarito8188 So Sorry to hear about the loss of the breached puppy, that's so sad. Maybe you should just have Brownie Spayed so she won't have more pups, unless you want her to continues having puppies. My son & daughter-in law got there first Shih Tzu a number of years ago and decided to breed her then sell her puppies for $1000 each. All the pups were well cared for and they were able to sell them all to good homes. They bred (Winney) 2 more times and then said that's enough and had her spayed. My son ended up keeping 2 pups from the last litter, male & female he named them Oliver & Annabelle. They are the smaller Shih Tzu, so cute & Tiny compared to my 14 lb. Pepper.
MINE IS LIKE THAT TOO. (EXCEPT NOT ABOUT THE ACCIDENTS IN THE HSE). I'VE TRIED TO TEACH HIM TO COLLECT HIS TOYS AT THE END OF THE DAY BUT HE REFUSES, 'CAUSE I'M HIS CARETAKER SERVANT.😏😅
Grooming - ✔ Good vet - ✔ (Need to be told this?) Good quality - ✔ Define "pampering" please. My 8 year Shizi runs our house. We even call her The Boss sometimes. Best dog. My daughter just died in March. Shizi spent 8 months of hospice on the bed. Gave so much love, empathy and comfort.
We have had our shih tzu Elvis for 4 1/2 years now. He is the absolute funniest guy ever. he’s funny he’s playful, he sleeps with us every night, and one of his favorite things is swimming, if we are in the pool, he is in the pool! It’s truly hilarious. he’s not spoiled at all, lol. He enjoys his homemade food every day which I make with either ground turkey or chicken, quinoa, sweet potatoes, peas and carrots And pumpkin. He is one healthy fella. All of our dogs we have a couple Chihuahua mixes also they all eat the homemade food and I’ve seen such improvement in their health since I stopped feeding them store-bought processed junk food.
My little boy is moving in with me tomorrow and I want to feed him real food just like you. What do you recommend feeding a puppy just leaving his mum? I'd be grateful for any advice you can give me.
We have six dogs, ranging in size from 11 pounds (our shih tzu) to 110 pounds. The shih tzu rules the roost, including the humans. You don't have to pamper him. Born leadership just comes naturally to these 'little lions'.😂
My late bobo absolutely loathed small dogs. But when he used to go to daycare. He ruled the big dogs and had a posse of them follow him around. You know the cliche on animal animated movies. Where the literal gangsters are always big animals with a tiny rat or something as the leader? Thats what shih tzus are like. Theyre the tiny animal that commands respect from the big boys. I miss my bobo so much. 😪
Aggie (shih tzu) is certainly different from Vick (Rottweiler). Just got Aggie 6 months old. Rescued. Vick was the size of my hand when I bought him for $5. Best money ever spent.
🎉 I encourage his zoomies! Lol yelling "Go Woodstock, Go!" He will do laps till he is panting and then get some water and go again for more laps! Then he gets on the chair and sighs loudly like to say, "I'm done!" 🐕 I have a 14 lbs. Male shih tzu, who is my BFF (best furry friend) He is spoiled and can be prone to try to manipulate me, but knows I'm the boss lady! Any tips to stop the manipulation tactics?
@@JeriMoomaw-yv2bb luckily my gatsby knew I was the boss straight away he’s a angel and a joy to own , he cheers me up everyday especially his expressions. Best dogs ever !! Like you said after a hour walk he comes in gets all his toys out to play some more I don’t know where gets energy from although he’s only 2 now 🐶
I love my shitz they are so playful i have two they are four years old they have a basket full of toys love long walks and running free on the ranch there is no dogs like them love them to pieces
Boiled chicken, white rice and cooked sweet potatoes for meals is healthy, filling, and they like it. Plain Cheerios for treats and you’ve got a dog that’s content, healthy and in good shape. Chew toys are necessary if they like that. WARNING: they are prone to Zoomies if they don’t get enough exercise.
What’s a zoomie? I started cooking mine boiled chicken and carrots and he got constipated. My Shih Tzu mix is about four months old. He doesn’t walk great on his leash.
@@gowithin1116 hi you could give your dog vitamins, some has probiotics that promotes healthy digestion. In my case, my dog gets constipated even when I change her diet. The best one for me is actually the boiled chicken breast and liver with rice and a little bit of chicken broth (for add. water intake; prevents constipation) if you can't make it from real chicken opt low/no sodium boxed chicken broth, my shih loves it. Sometimes I add carrots and sub the rice with sweet potatoes.
We feed ours the same but add green veggies, carrots and apples. We give him calcium in his food also. No salt. We also use the Cheerios! He’d do anything for a plain Cheerio!
I feel like bathing them weekly gives them dry skin, however i do daily brushing or every other day, and face washes are a must. And my shih tzu is raw fed and never been healthier, she was on kibble as a puppy and was sick every day until i weened her off, now no yeast infections, no vomiting, no diarrea, and has healthy teeth. Also is intact.
@@adarodriguez4619 i wasn't trying to bring anyone down. Everyone has their own way of taking care of their families. This was one way that helped my pup, and if any one is experiencing the same thing maybe this can be a solution for them. I don't want to bring anyone down. Everyone is different.
They are called "little lions", and mine absolutely is! But that comes from a legend about Bhudda. Is is legend that Bhudda owned a Shih Tzu. It was said that when the two were out walking, they were set upon by robbers, who were out to rob and kill Bhudda. Legend has it that the dog transformed into a lion, chasing off the bandits, and saving Bhuddas' life. Another legend is that the white spot on the top of the head, found on some, was caused by Bhudda kissing his dog there, If your dog has that white spot, it is said to be a descendant of Bhudda's dog. Anyway, that's what's believed, here in Asia.
Love all animals all mammals O memos 04S animals from monkey to rabbit 10 to all that's a very hard species to understand that Hey maybe one day you will Love you all in my heart may you feel love in your heart
Both stories are supposedly true! The budha kissing the forehead leaves the star of budha! Also if they have a white patch round there shoulders, that is supposedly where the Buddhist monk would sit and hold the dogs ears. The best dog breed ever!, so loyal, loving, family orientated, clever and stubborn. We got 2 and they are our kids!, spoilt rotten but worth it gurus the love you get back.
My shih tzu dog name is Miles he is so precious. And believe it he was so easy to potty train. No accidents in the house. We love our mouths so much he brings us so much joy.
I have a shih tzu named Oliver. He's very sweet and funny.... but can be moody 😆 Also, I have a shih tzu / poodle mix named Lilly. She's a sweet little doggo 💕
My Shih Tsu is very calm, he loves to play, but he can be very independent. I think we have a good relationship. He is very untuned with me. He is a picky eater. I have gone through 6 different kibbles.
We make ours homemade food. He loves it. We make enough to freeze for weeks. He is at a great weight and so very happy. It’s protein (cooked chicken) with lots of vegetables and fruit. Rice. Worth every second of our time. Also cured his allergies.
My Shih Tzu is very lovable.. Loves to cuddle and does follow me everywhere. He takes short walks and be careful with heat because my baby will get over heated quickly. Please in warm weather make sure your baby stays cool.
Never yell at them because you will lose their trust and affection. Firm commands are fine with a clear voice and command but no yelling or cornering them to discipline them. I absolutely ruined my relationship with my first Shih Tzu yelling about stuff. Even when it wasn't about them. I never truly won him back.
@@MrCobolt He started to fail in his training and didn't want to be near me. I rehomed him with a family he knew and he is very happy there. He was adopted by one of the vet staff he knew well and liked. Adores her and her boys, has become a part of her pack of small guys em doggies. I want another dog again but right now my health will not allow it. Sigh.
My shitzu is my baby.i love him he is extremely active.when not at his sister's owners ranch, where he runs free, and is leader of the. Pack.he gets 3 long walks a day at least.he is so loving.he loves getting his belly rubbed most of all.
My shins-Tubloves short hair in the summer. I practically shave her, and leave her ears and tail long. She gets cooked chicken and vegetables. And plenty of exercize. I keep a tank top on her in the sun so she doesn’t get doesn’t get sunburned. Love my dog! I’m disabled and she knows what to do when I’m having an episode. She’s the best.
I agree!! I raised them in them in the 90's and their wonderful pets.
So true.... Missing my doggo Oreo, shih tzu 🥰🥰😥😥😭

I got him when he was 6 weeks old and now he's 13 and he's my whole world
I love that you shared this because I'm training mine to be a service dog as well.
I now have a darling boy and he is my best pal and I try to do all the things mentioned in your

My wife and I had our first Shi-Tzu for 17.5 years and our new girl is about to turn 4. She is literally like our child and we love her like one. Shi-tzu’s are the best dogs and companions ever
I love my dog don't know what I'll do without him
Your shih tzu lived to 17.5 years?! I was thinking they only lived to around 11-12. I hope my 3 shih tzus have a long life like that!
I didn’t realize how close I could get to a pet, until I got my baby. We’ve been together for 8 years.
I totally agree. My baby won’t let me out of her sight. When I go out the door for a bit,she throws a fit.
@@hov3968 mine too. even if it's a few feet...she doesn't miss a beat and never takes her eyes off me. does yours have to sleep literally between your legs? or at our feet with her head on your foot so she is alerted if I even try to escape to the bathroom or kitchen . its crazy
So my whole family pampers our shih tzu. We are now working for her and obeys her every command. It's not that bad tho 😆

They are so precious...you can't help but pamper them! Every doggo deserves it!
He's a dumb dog. Take care of yourself
Do you have any suggestion? I have 15 year old shih tzu, dog walk everyday try to satisfy her eating demand and she sleeps a lot.
@@nadamin8 15 is getting on, She will tend to sleep a lot more now as life becomes more tiresome.. Although these dogs do like their regular naps anyway lol. I had a shih tzu girl recently passed away, 17 years! how many times do you shower him?
I had a Maltese shih tzu named Zoey and she lived 14 years 5 months. I now have a registered 6 month old boy named Chewy that was my Christmas gift this past Christmas. He is my world! I hit the jackpot with this puppy. Completely potty trained after 4 months and loves to be brushed and combed after each potty visit outside. I even bought a cordless groomer kit off Amazon and groom him myself. I’ll save a lot of money this go round. And to top it off he loves to get a bath!🥰❤️🐶🤗
Wow u really did hit the jackpot

My Shih Tzu loves pampering. Even though he is a pampered one he is a very obedient dog. It is very lovely to have him around.

@@meghanelizabeth6710 He got cushings disease and went down hill fast. Especially the last few days he just got worse and worse until he started only being able to breathe through his mouth and then he started having trouble with that so it was time to put him down
I have three shih tzu's two of them are rescue doggies we have had this breed in our family for 40 years wonderful companions:):):):)
This explains why my shih tzu doesn't do a single thing I tell him. He's spoiled and in control :)
they are royal dogs that is why, just pemper them ,they are not hurding, or hunting dogs , I got them to cuddle and love
Impossible to command behavior. Must ask. Sometimes I ask for an alpha moment. I get it.
Mine too.😊
I understand. They're the smartest little guys I've ever had.
literally! my shih tzu just stares at me and gives me side eye
We have had two and they are the best dogs ever. Very good for seniors.
1. Never leave them without grooming.
2. Never Pamper your Shitszhu.
3. Never leave them without regular health check.
4. Never leave them without regular exercise.
5. Never feed them low quality food.
Thx
Fine I'll thank you later
Thank u do much
Thank you now. Not much info in this posting.

These are such adorable little dogs I had a little Shih Tzu for the past 3 year my little Precious came into my life when she was almost 12 years old she was my constant companion 24/7 I loved her very much I lost her only a few weeks ago I miss her so very much 🐕💗😪
I suggest, get another one. We all need someone or something to love, especially if we live alone. God bless.
They can become stubborn but only if you're harsh with them. They want to please you and my bear will do anything if encouraged and spoken to with love. They are a majical love bears and pampering is a huge part of thier language. I melt every single time I look at him and think about how lucky I am to know him. They just shine.
My shitzus were always pampered
And never had any problems
We always kept the cute puppy cut
Grooming wasn’t much of a hassle
We got our female Shih Tzu from a rescue at the age of 3.
She’s adorable! Great companion. Has the run of
4 1/2 acres all to herself.
Stubborn at times, and always lovable! 🥰
I recently got a Shih Tzu, her name is Lily. She is the smartest, sweetest most lovable little thing!!❤️❤️
Love mine too! So smart. I talk to him all the time and he loves it. I think he understand so many words. I have to be careful no one sees me or they will think I am crazy😄
@@ohyeah3365 Do

There is NO way I couldn’t pamper my Shihtzus! They train the owners! I adore them! No two are exactly alike 😊❤️

Ahahhhahahhahah,,,,,,,@
Love the name. Our newest puppy is Orbit. His long name since our last name starts with a B is OB1 D-O-G...a tribute to Star Wars since they look like little Ewoks 😊
"Never pamper your Shih Tzu"? Good luck accomplishing that!! 3:06 😂😂😂
LOL
I have to say my shih tzu love long walks and will even go hiking with us. He is super active and he just adores being outside sniffing around!
@Pattijean Aikens ahhhahaha.. very smart indeed =))
Would be ver helpful for many if you can share secret for their long life … like diet …. usual exercise etc
Thank you 🙏
@@artpoet299 Hi Art Poet, thank you 😊 yes we are very lucky, but I should add that our first two dogs cost less than $400 each (in 2000 and then 2007) and our third (in 2016) cost a quarter of what we paid for our newest baby (in 2021).
I am sorry to hear that. I wish you the best in your recovery.
Clyde is a most loving soul, cuddly, fun, and caring. He has brought much joy to our lives.
I just adopted a 9 y/o puppy mill mom. I definitely am pampering her, she deserves it. Potty training is something new to her but we're working on it.

our shih tzu is intelligent, cuddly , very good at communicate its needs. He is a elderly and we got him as a rescue case. At the age of 8 he learnt how to play with toys now he loves his toys. At 9 yrs he finally realize he can say hi to other dogs in a nice way and don't feel the urge to hide from them. He loves grooming and have his teeth brushed.
This is my 3rd Shitzu and they are the best
My baby is very proudly spoiled …wouldn’t have it any other way …she is my angel ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much for sharing this!
I have my 4th shih tzu rescue dog and I love this breed.

I have always had Shitzu’s, I always keep them groomed, and always pamper them, they just love us.
Me too ! Mine won't calm down when she sees someone come in !
Smart, independent; keeps his eyes on me. Energetic except when a storm may be brewing - he could hide all day!
I have a Shih-Tzu he’s very smart and bad🤗

I have six dogs myself and two are shih tzus
Give the little lion a beating until it's unconscious with leather strap once in a while....show it who's boss.
Aggie (shih tzu) is certainly different from Vick (Rottweiler). Just got Aggie 6 months old. Rescued. Vick was the size of my hand when I bought him for $5. Best money ever spent.
Teddy is very loving and smart a joy to have.
Our little 1.10 month old is a little Teddy too. Boy, is he something!

Never ever hit an animal what is wrong with you and a strap? Wtf u are wrong for doing that
Boiled chicken, white rice and cooked sweet potatoes for meals is healthy, filling, and they like it.
@@gowithin1116 pumpkin is good for constipation.
We feed ours the same but add green veggies, carrots and apples. We give him calcium in his food also. No salt. We also use the Cheerios! He’d do anything for a plain Cheerio!
My Shitzu name is Jojo and he's my everything. Jojo is very active and spoiled. I ❤️ him so much. Jojo makes my day.
It's OKI like reading for some people down it doesn't make him less than those it read just remember when you talk to me you're talking to the world
😁😅😇💗
@@adarodriguez4619 i wasn't trying to bring anyone down. Everyone has their own way of taking care of their families. This was one way that helped my pup, and if any one is experiencing the same thing maybe this can be a solution for them. I don't want to bring anyone down. Everyone is different.
I have 2 Shih Tzu puppies and I love them rso much they are my second time owning one and they are one of the best dogs ever
Miles
I have a shih tzu named Oliver. He's very sweet and funny.... but can be moody 😆 Also, I have a shih tzu / poodle mix named Lilly. She's a sweet little doggo 💕
Love my dog. She is so affectionate . I will always have this breed
My Shih Tsu is very calm, he loves to play, but he can be very independent. I think we have a good relationship. He is very untuned with me. He is a picky eater. I have gone through 6 different kibbles.
I think that's just the way they are. they are the best!!! It sounds like you are talking about my dog.
We make ours homemade food. He loves it. We make enough to freeze for weeks. He is at a great weight and so very happy. It’s protein (cooked chicken) with lots of vegetables and fruit. Rice. Worth every second of our time. Also cured his allergies.
They say, homemade chicken, chicken livers and sweet potatoes and green beans are good for these dogs. I just love'em.
Tuve al amor de mi vida durante 12 años y nunca se llenará el vacío que dejó en mi corazón...
My Shihtzu likes the food I eat !!😂
My shitzu loves nachos
My Shih Tzu is very lovable.. Loves to cuddle and does follow me everywhere. He takes short walks and be careful with heat because my baby will get over heated quickly. Please in warm weather make sure your baby stays cool.
My Shih Tzu tells me when to go to bed and when to get up. He knows lots of words and is fearless with much larger dogs demanding their respect.
MyCharlie does that too! Lol! He’s such a good boy, even pees on command. I can’t imagine my life without him! ❤️
my ShihTzu is adorable all around, with a very friendly personality! 21 months old
Seems like 5 things you never should do with any dog.
I pick up the shih tzu I adopted tomorrow, can't wait!
Aw 😭
Whats it like now? What do they do after loosing trust?
@@MrCobolt He started to fail in his training and didn't want to be near me. I rehomed him with a family he knew and he is very happy there. He was adopted by one of the vet staff he knew well and liked. Adores
