DON'T STACK THIS SILVER OR GOLD! Bullion that is simply NOT WORTH THE "GRADE"
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 31 พ.ค. 2024
- In this video I’m going to discuss certified--or graded--bullion coins. As a stacker, I strongly feel one should AVOID buying graded gold and silver. I’ll also tell you when "grades" really DO matter. Any make sure to watch to the end to see me cut out one of slabbed coins. The Sheldon coin grading scale, created in 1949 and then improved in the 70s went a LONG WAY in helping numismatists determine the quality of coins--from “worn” all the way to “perfect". People buy higher-premium graded silver and gold coins for a lot of reasons, and I discuss some of them while we look at my three graded items--an "ultra cameo" 1982-S George Washington commemorative half dollar, graded by NGC as a PF69, an MS69 "First Strike" gold buffalo that I bought from Tim last year, and an MS70 George Patton collector coin as a total splurge! Bottom line? When stacking bullion, “grades” don't matter! However, before I cut the gold buffalo out of its "plastic prison", I let you in on when super-high grades DO matter! Gold found in a gold mine! Protect yourself from out-of-control governments, evil central banks, and the failing US dollar's grip as the world's reserve currency. Make sure you build a stack of silver rounds, silver bars, silver coins, and gold coins as essential barter and wealth preservation!

I hit my 40 oz of silver today !! Even thought it’s not all in one type , 21 ounces in buffalos and the rest in random silver rounds and coins. Not bad considering i started this January and I took a month break from buying.
These are rookie numbers but good job
Lol. Yep definitely rookie numbers.
But I'm glad your in the game .
It's definitely a few things every American should have is Gold & silver .
I got A.s.e. a few times here and there in year's past .
But now I'm in the game since January myself and got Rookie numbers as well, but on the other hand it's what you can afford and it's the long game in this and fir safety of J.I.C.S.H. ..
I had to take a mini break because o was going to a large concert here in Florida and needed as much as possible. I managed to snag 2 buffalos at spot in Daytona on Saturday so it wasn’t a total waste of my day lmao. 40 isn’t bad , if I didn’t take the break I’d probably have close to 150-200 . I’m back in the game now boys 😂
One coin/ounce at a time. 20 years from now when silver is $200 an ounce you can sit down and look back at the start in 2024. By then you should have at least 10 thousand ounces, 500 ounces a year is a possible target. Congrats on your first 40 ounces and a future silver fortune of 2 Million Dollars...
40oz. That's a lot of Ramen.
At the very least, it's been authenticated as real
That MS 69 Buffalo came from Tucson, AZ btw. I personally drove it here and unfortunately had to sell it to Tim.
No way! Wow. 👌🏼
I love it when Yankee stacking turn's into Yankee hacking! It's like "Home improvement"!!! I can see it now... You play Tim Allen's neighborcharacter & Tim is the persnickety neighbor that gives you precious metal advice threw the slats in the fence‽ ...... nevermind, that sound is just giving me dentist office PTSD!
And I helped pay the taxes on that fuel you purchased for the trip to Tim's. 😲👀😉
why would you grade a buffalo its not even currency
@@mikeladley5149What?
I only have 2 collectibles, one batman coin my mom got me many years ago (which I recently found out was silver) and a Dr who coin my wife got me for Christmas.
Thank you for the video.
As a newbie, I bought only slabbed coins in the early days. Then I realised the folly of my ways. However, do still buy the occasional numismatic coloured coin because they do look exceptional.
PF = Proof. Specially prepared dies (polished). The planchettes (coins) are typically struck twice to bring up all the details on the dies. The planchettes are also typically polished or at least carefully rolled and cut prior to striking. MS = Mint State. Planchettes are mass produced and single struck on regular production dies. MS coins typically have a frosty appearance while proof have a mirrored appearance.
This
On the gold coin it’s an MS/Mat due to the fact that it’s not a gloss/PF the mint sells both mint and uncirculated.
I've basically figured out that graded bullion, unless it's for "rare" dates, is virtually useless. I walked an MS70 $50 American Gold Eagle around an ANA coin show and was basically offered a tad above spot and not much over raw. Grade silver Eagles are even worse and almost all treated as raw essentially.
I quite like the different toning on the numismatic coins! When I come to the USA 🇺🇸 next year, I’m going to buy as much as I can bring bank to Australia 🇦🇺
What's wrong with the Gimd I. Australia ?
Just curious is it the quality , price or ?
Thank you for this Video...❤

Not gonna lie yankee I was worried you were gonna lose control of the dremel and nick the coin. I was literally watch through my fingers, but you did it! 😊
luckily it's gold. Blowing into the capsule then encasing a silver coin is a big no-no!
TRUE! Moisture. Should have mentioned that.
Good to now and thank you Yankee
So much cooler than a savings account. My stack looks and feels awesome and even after paying premiums and only holding metals 2 years or so, it's already so much better than a cash account.
Great video, metal does tarnish over time, it gets spots of various types etc, both gold and silver, it is just what it does and it can take many years. However the one good thing about bullion is that you do not need to be concerned too much by the condition. Most of my gold coins for example are best value gold sovereigns, that means they are worn, that is the way I like it and most of my Silver Eagles are toned and worn and they are lovely. Life is too short to be worried about scratches and digs and the grade, just buy the metal and stack as you say. Great video. A bullion dealer will likely only pay the bullion price for graded coins as well. I think there is an easier way, towel on top and bash with a hammer gently.
What kind of silver do you recommend to purchase for a new stacker with the current prices? May 2024
Won't buy the graded stuff.
But when I started stacking, I said no gold and only the best deals on $ilver. Wellll bought a little gold and fell in love with all fancy coins and rounds. So who knows ....
Phil out ....
only times i've bought graded bullion was when the price is equal to the raw price or if only the graded is available from the dealer I'm at & the price difference isn't worth the time to find a raw one elsewhere.
I have bought graded silver eagles, but only as gifts. The one exception is the type one and type two silver eagles, I did buy one of each in a PCGS slab. Not because I thought they'd be more valuable down the line. I just wanted them.
My type set is a different story. Every coin is a slabbed example in the best condition I can afford. It's often times several months between additions to my type set. Sure is rewarding when I do get that next coin.
If you can get a slabbed coin for regular price, then should leave it in the slab because it authenticates it better. If I’ve got 2 guys offering me a gold buffalo for half of a cow, and one is slabbed, I’m taking that one. But agree to not pay extra as you did with Tim.
Nice gold stack brother.
Every three days it rains on the south island. When you are there you invest in a nice raincoat. Beautiful country, lots of rain, low alcohol beer 😞
Lol I knew for the second you said you were cutting 1 it was buffalo for the tube 🤣
I started stacking because I was (and still am) a coin collector. Certified coins are fun if you're a collector. If you're stacking the only reason to buy certified bullion is if you're confident that you can make a profit on it. If that Buffalo had been MS70 and you bought it close to spot you could make money on it. An MS 69 may as well be cracked out because there's no advantage at all.
The PF stands for Proof, which is a high die polish coin, mostly with high shine fields and frosty features. They're designed to be pretty. The MS stands for Mint State which is a standard circulation strike, with "circulation" in quotes when it comes to bullion, that is made from dies designed to push large numbers of coins with less reflective surfaces.
Thanks, Yankee!
Love the intro with the Dremel
Thanks! 😂
This vid auto played as I am a newish and very interested collector/stacker, so I didn't see the thumbnail until the end when I went to comment. As a beginner it really gave me some confidence that I knew which coin and why asap
Well done! 👌🏼
I have several modern gold coins that are graded but picked them up at a non graded price just like YS did. I won't pay for graded precious metals but that Patton was fantastic looking!
The only graded & slabbed stuff I hold is pre-33 gold and pre-21 silver. For those I go high grade and specific dates & mints for greater numismatic value as a collectible. I'm also buying graded/slabbed at a market bargain, not just automatically buying like I would stacking material. The bulk of my stack is bullion, not slabbed. Two products, kept for two purposes. I also found it humorous you broke the Buffalo out of the slab and then put it in another case for the bullet. Oh, I do buy graded ASE's for my grandson (MS69 brown label NGC - not the up priced early blah blah blah high premium stuff). Buy when first released every year starting when he was born in 2018. I'll give them to him when he is an adult, but he likes to see them with my stacked supply in the safe now and understands those are special. I'm hoping he will appreciate stacking early. Those are not for a profit, but more for him in the future to remember us by and hopefully start his own stack and collection.
I knew it wasn't the Washington, I know how much you appreciate him. And didn't think it was the Patton.
I laughed so hard watching the beginning of the introduction of the video.
I started stacking Pre-33 Gold, I was thinking of getting them graded need some advice. Should I get them graded or not? Any advice for beginner Gold Stacker on Pre-33 Gold.
How old are the coins, what kind of condition are they in, do they have rare mintages, and what is your exit strategy with them?
I agree stick with special pre 33 gold !
I sure do like to handle and look at the silver. I will be giving 5 1oz bars as a wedding gift next month. Picked them up back when silver was a little over $23oz. At almost $30/oz now.....quite a change in the value of the dollar.......the value of silver doesn't change.
I predicted $37. an once in June live on Yankee Stacker. I stand by my prediction. You stand in awe.
June? I wonder what you would’ve predicted back in December 2023 when I made my prediction. 😏
Numismatics and stacking weight are 2 different things. I personally choose both. Also, history of type coins has increased in value way more than spot values. Like waaaaay more, depending on what type of coins. He should've said, don't stack what you aren't educated on.
No worries. I have no slabbed anything! 😉
Does anyone know when the 3rd Commander coin is coming out? Any idea who will be on it?
Totally against the slabbed Patton. All beautiful coins though.😊
I got into precious metals right around the time when the Type 2 eagles came out, so I bought a First Strike gold eagle to pass down to someone. I figured it might be a nice collector's item decades from now. I think I might have one silver eagle slabbed, but that's it.
Just checked. I have 2 slabbed silver eagles. One is another 1st Strike. The other is from the Philadelphia mint. Same idea with the passing them down to someone.
Only coins I had graded were bank sealed boxes of quarters that my West Points came out of. I still have sealed bank rolls of Texas and Idaho. I mainly collect junk silver. My collection took on a life of it's own. I am now a jeweler... I love pouring my own. Thanks.👍
I purchased one graded gold buffalo sometime ago, how much above is it worth than a non graded version? Thankyou
At the end of the day, I wouldnt offer you anymore than what I can buy a circulated buffalo gold coin. Gold is gold to me.
The only Slabbed silver I have is ONE MS70 American Silver Eagle of each year since inception. I buy One every year.
Nic’s coins would be happy 👍🏻 Congrats on completing your Buffalo bullet! What’s next?
Trying to figure that out, Elle!
I definitely agree with your point. But I would say, you probably could’ve sold that slab and used the money to buy another buffalo and the additional premium to buy an additional 1/4oz to add to the stack. Couple of 1/10s at least….
Keep stacking ‘em ladies and gents!
What about those that don’t know if they are a girl or boy 🧔♀️
JK!
Slabbed ATB 5 oz quarters are great for flipping! Premiums have skyrocketed over the years
I like high grade slabbed bullion coins because you get an unscratched coin for your money, I hate scratches
I’m one of the ones that buys those once or twice a year just because I think they are pretty and I like having them. They’re on annual subscription from the U.S. Mint. Are they overpriced? Heck yeah they are. I still like them.
But yeah I agree no one should stack them like boring bullion
I have a lot of the george washington proofs. Nice coin.
Got burned on Numismatic coins 20 years ago. Never again, will not buy ever.
Good video
Yankee, we need more videos of Tim telling us about the price of gold and silver going down every time he talks about that the prices skyrocket hopefully we can get to $40+ silver and $2500+ gold
I bought a silver eagle first strike.... it bought it for under the going rate during the period when eagles have $13 premium. The eagles were selling for $43 at dealers and I got this one for $38.
I've been looking for tubes that hold one ounce gold coins in capsules. Where do you buy them?
Have you checked the links in my description? I’m not sure if I have the tube in there, but I think I do.
@@YankeeStacking Yes, I see it. Thanks!
My graded coins are for fun and my non graded ones are for stacking.
Pretty cool
Where can I purchase one of those buffalo bullet tubes and the coin slots for them to fit in?
Yep! Check out the link in the description of the video.
A ship wreck designation is important if it is from a famous wreck, otherwise I agree with you on that point.
important to whom?
@@jmo82592 Those who collect for the Historical value. There are only a handful of shipwrecks that qualify. The Atocha and SS Republic being probably the most well known to the general public. If the slab just says "shipwreck effect" and does not name the ship,I agree it does not matter.
I have a v a u l t of silver ounce coins, graded all ms70, pr70, uncirculated, everything. the premiums are never going to be even in a realistic ballpark for what you are paying for a plastic tab. however, for older coins, this is probably your best bet for long term investment returns.
I would take the gold out for sure. The only reason I might buy a coin in some plastic would have to be some really old rare coin. I would just want something to protect it. You just said exactly what I just wrote so I agree.☝️
Will you be giving full transparency on how much you invest and what % that is of your total portfolio Yankee? Love the videos but some context on the promotional aspect would be great 👍
You must have missed the video. He did where he laid out all of his silver golden eagles.I mean, there must have been thousands of them on a large rectangled table.Look for it it was a couple months ago.
I’ve done a video on it! And will do another soon.
When ASE’s are $5-7 premiums. And you can pick up GRADED ASE 69s & 70s on whatnot for about $9-10 premium (if your patient and careful). A lot of times, depending on their designation, these coins are bringing $30-50 premiums on eBay. There’s a lot of room there to make a few bucks.
I typically stay away from slabbed bullion but I’ll admit I’ve been guilty of picking them up when the premium ends up being just an extra couple bucks. They’re so pretty!
Would you do the same thing to a 1987 1oz gold Engelhard? Less than 2,500 were produced.
Probably not! But then again, I wouldn’t buy them either. 🤷🏻♂️
@@YankeeStackingIt was the only gold that I could purchase.
I already did. and i like it a lot. Semi numis now are my grandkids gold. Either way, you slice it. A cowboy already made their treasure map to a bequeathed.
Id like to invest in RUA any suggestions as far as trading platforms to use. It's not available on my e trade lol
Try TD Ameritrade, Schwab, or Fidelity to trade on the OTC markets.
I have been finding some high grade coins, around the same price as regular bullion. That i find as a positive.
I think a coin has to be at least 3yr old before able to get a 70 to make sure it doesn't milk spot. Just my opinion.
So true. Got a 1 oz .9999 silver collector’s coin. No where near worth what my Aunt paid years ago.
Setting It Free !!!!
I watched one where the coin dealer said we were off the gold standard in 1933 ..That's not true ..the people were forces off the gold standard but the Gov't still pegged their currency to the gold holdings ..otherwise we would've hyperinflated away before 1945. Bretton Woods agreement was the settlement of the dollar replacing the Pound Sterling as the global reserve currency. The allies agreed to it because of gold backing the paper and Gov't
Hey Yankee great stuff I’ll sticking with junk
I would really like to get my 1851 3 cent O graded.
idk , i like slabbed coins if you can get them close to non slabbed price... definitely a good protective case, but if i buy slabbed coins they are morgan dollars.....
Certified examples can often be bought for the same price as an uncertified example. Personally I think certified coins are easier to sell when the time comes.
Agreed…short of an SHTF scenario. Which is the main reason I stack as a prepper stacker.
Graded coins are more a collectors thing. If you trade among collectors then graded can be a good investment IF you buy the right stuff. Question is, what should you buy? Definitely more challenging than just stacking where all your goals are oz vs price per spot + premium. As far as mining, if you want to invest in stock there is no more risk than holding something collectible. At end of day, holding something physical pending time permits is likely to be your best bet!
SD was selling some nice pattons but then there was the silver eagles at spot so couldn’t pass up that … locked it in 28.73 & then silver ripped! 🎉
Well done!
Proof coins are struck with specially polished dies, so normally have a mirror like background field and sometimes a frosted foreground which contrasts with that. Buffalos struck in proof usually have a higher premium. I think a lot of the times you will find a lot of modern slabbed coins in MS-69 at close to bullion prices because people will take the best examples they can find and pay for them to be graded in hopes of receiving an MS-70 grade. All that come back as MS-69 they then sell as bullion.
If you love shiny objects (like I do), there’s nothing wrong with not turning a profit, or even losing a few bucks. I would buy something like that Patton now and then simply as a piece of art to enjoy. Don’t cheat yourself, treat yourself.
I like to have some graded coins for the grandkids
Totally agree mate load of bollocking.
they won't grade it first strike unless you sent it in 2 months or less after it was released, it's meant to mean that it had used a new die, but I admit these days with the new equipment it doesn't mean much, but before 1836 when dies were handmade and powered, first strike would seriously mean something. 1850 double eagles and 1854s double eagles both used a brand new die, as did 1874 cc doubled eagles and they have a strong strike
I have never bought or sent a coin for grading. I have been given a few and have done a trade for weight but never, NEVER consideren'd them any more than spot. So when you come to my house bring your Dremmil Saw eh. Or you can use mine if you like, LOL.
That's a nice stack of gold.
Rely on person to person trade easy as scavenging for items that are valuable, practical,of quality and wanted and do the trade up challenge with it also the gov cant establish its influence on trade and doesnt need electricity etc to survive the end of the world
How do u grade your coins ? Something new for me sorry
You can send it out to one of the grading services and pay for them to certify it.
Buffalo Bullet.... 😮 dang!
I`m a collector not a stacker, collecting since 1965, like building sets, so lots of silver, no need to stack Jack!
1/10th ounce Maple Leaf gold.
FIRST STRIKE of only 5000. It's King Chuck.😅
Buffalo- Your free
I do have 1 graded bullion coin(l would lose my shirt on that one if I was to sell it today). All the rest of my graded coins are morgans
Thank you for not talking about crypto Ponzi schemes like that guy silver seeker does.
Silver Seeker??? 🤨
I think there is room for one more in that tube.
I didn't know anything about gold and silver but I was watching one of the peoples videos and she was very adamant about having old coins that the government can't confiscate so I bought a coin from the company that was 1400 2 years ago I wanted to sell it back and now it's worth $600 I would like you to do a show about that please
Sweet Buffalo Bullet!!!!
The most precise and taking your time carefully cut away slab I’ve ever seen nice work Yankee love the video love the talk and experience you shared. #KeepStacking.
Does anyone ever think Yankee sounds like Matt from Royal Caribbean Blog. I had my daughter listen to this and said who does Yankee sound like and she immediately said the cruise guy. Totally off topic but kind of cool!
🚢 😂 👌🏼
Yankee stacker,
Tim,
What’s the difference between tarnishing and Toning…
Same difference as wear and patina. NONE Just a word to make something sound more valuable.
That's a good question and I hope he addresses it
Toning is tarnish you want or like. 😂
Does tarnishing turn into Toning, what causes the toning?
Gold is the only definition of money.
Hold on I'll be right back I need to go Bid on a Morgan.
Trying to understand “high grade,” and high production difference. Gold is gold on the elemental level. I realize gold doesn’t come out the ground pure. I also never understood mining ratios when they refer to g/ton when placer gold has various purities.
Hi grade of gold per ton of earth. That’s how it’s measured.
Thanks Yankee.
