Love it! If you don’t have wood for the base. Chopping mats work with a hole punch, might want to double time up, but the dollar tree sells them in packs of 2 and they are clear :)

Another alternative is to crochet a bottom and sew a piece of large gauge plastic canvas to it to reinforce it. It wont be as stiff as wood, but it will make the bottom hold its shape. That's something a lot of crafters might already have at home.

The way I did this was by using tunisian crochet to make a base and pick up stitches along the edges of that. Works really well!

Well, I deffo learnt a few things today. 1. I can use other yarns, other than just a baby soft yarns 😉. 2. A new stitch, A waistcoat stitch. 3. You showed around the handle how NOT to keep loose stitches & 4. When cutting this sort of yarn, you need to cut in an angle to get it through the needle. Thanks so so so much for this lovely simple tutorial. I am going to make this next. I have been wanting to make a few baskets for my 3 cats. I will try to get this yarn first at my local store.

I LOVED this project! The stitches look like a basket weave. I must admit, I wasn’t as diligent as I probably should have been with my tension. With a little tweaking, I am able to straighten the sides. My wooden base was a bit smaller with fewer holes, but I just adjusted. The tricky part was placing the handles. I just made sure they were placed in the middle on both sides. I’m thinking this will make a cute purse! Thanks for the awesome tutorial!
