    I think your going to like it ! nothing better than to look down and forward to cut hay and not have to be twisted around in the seat to see what's going on behind you. Nothing better than having a new toy to play with ! Bandit

    Hope it works well for you! Enjoy it! Thanks for showing us your new "to you" addition to the farm!!!

    That brings back some memories! Specially seeing the Hunt's sticker...that's where ours came from. I spent many years behind a steering wheel just like that.
    Don't forget to turn off park brake, it will smoke like crazy.... Don't turn down hill with header raised you'll end up nosediving, they were always a little light in the rear.

      Thanks for the info Justin, I am finding the things out that you mentioned! It sure is fun to drive! You from the Cashton area?

    Nice purchase. Self propelled beats pull type every time. You'll be the next Onelonleyfarmer of the Midwest!

      @LVFFarmVlogs  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol! Thanks Bill, I dont know about the OLF of the midwest but that old mower is sure fun to drive. After a long day of cutting hay my neck shouldn't be sore with this rig!

      When it's comfortable to run, you'll be looking for more hay to make. I'm convinced that forage is one of the easiest (there really is no easy way) to get started farming. It's the marketing you have to expand your horizons on. We tend to think "line of sight" rather than regionally or Country-wide.

    nice new toy! also fun when something new shows up on the farm. it looks like same cutter bar as a 499 and those are good reliable machines. should work out well for you.

      larsonvalleyfarm should we love ours and there fuel sippers so that's a plus it will take care of you if you take care of her never had any problems with ours except the crimp roles started coming apart but we do a lot of balage so it's not to big of a deal

    • @Massey2675
      @Massey2675 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      larsonvalleyfarm also when you're coming into a windrow that's already down I see a lot of guys pick up so it doesn't bunch on the ends you don't need to just slow down and wiggle back and forth and you will be good to go

  • @macfarms
    @macfarms 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's awesome. My kind of windrower for sure, old and needs a restoration lol

      Thanks Nate! I hope it works out too. So far I am getting the hang of driving it, but the grass is still wet so I might have to wait until after freezing temps to make the last cutting of hay!

    nice machine,. hope ya like it. we love our discbine

    • @LVFFarmVlogs
      @LVFFarmVlogs  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man, a discbine would be nice but this was in my price range and its a improvement over what I had!

  • @jasonmushersee
    @jasonmushersee 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    these new holland work good. the header is similar to the 499 and those have the two 6' sickles with countersink sections in the middle, some normal sections & the ends have a left & right so a little of everything. if you have troubles with fine grass plugging in the middle they have those aggressive cut (and thicker) sections now. the 499 has a pto hydro pump that wears out so then the machine plugs.

    • @LVFFarmVlogs
      @LVFFarmVlogs  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the info on the cutter head parts. Being they still made the 499 is a lot of why I decided to buy it!

  • @farmingorfixing4800
    @farmingorfixing4800 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can't beat using a swather for ease of maneuverability in the field. I've been eyeing one of those up for years just can't decide between that or a discbine.

    • @LVFFarmVlogs
      @LVFFarmVlogs  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would have rather had a discbine but sickles are easier to fix and cheaper! Discbines will cut pretty much anything and aren't as finicky!

  • @farmingforfunandprofit940
    @farmingforfunandprofit940 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice......Probably work fine for you...But we have fire mounds down south and they will kill a sicklebar...Those puffs of dust you see watching spring hollow hay are when the disc hits one......We finished baling the hay and got another load of peanuts...

    • @LVFFarmVlogs
      @LVFFarmVlogs  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have gopher mounds! lol, Its hard on sickles but we work thru it. A discbine would be great but they are out of my price range!

    Looks great! Before you buy a new sickle for it check into a SCH brand cutter bar for it. If you have mole hills you will love it. I bought a Hesston 8400 windrower and it has that type of sickle in it and I love it. Check out there web site to see exactly what it is.

    • @LVFFarmVlogs

    looks like fun, can't wait til next year, I bet. the reels on those machines always look weird to me, with some of the bars being wider.
    I would think using my left foot would be weird. I am so right handed, I would starve to death if I had to use my left to eat, I think

    • @LVFFarmVlogs
      @LVFFarmVlogs  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol! Actually on the reel they are all the same length, they are on a pivot. I can show that in the video of it running tomorrow if it drys enough to cut hay. We got almost 3 inches yesterday and last night (along with some hail)

    • @mathman1923
      @mathman1923 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      boy, i am about done with rain. we have been getting drenched lately, sounds like the same there. i would be interested to see that reel up a little closer.

    My dad has one of them an likes it but his is the 1495. He likes it an has had it for years, his steering is tight also their a good old machine!! I still prefer a discbine I run two deeres one 12' an a 14' but a sickle still comes in handy now and then!! Did u find your hidden toolbox on their yet!!?

    • @LVFFarmVlogs
      @LVFFarmVlogs  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes sir, I found the goody box! I would love to have a discbine, just can afford one. And now after having a self propelled I dont know if I could go back to a pull type!

  • @johndeere709

    • @LVFFarmVlogs

  • @derekrisser2219
    @derekrisser2219 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you think a self propelled mower is better than a pull type? Or does it just depend on preference?

    • @LVFFarmVlogs
      @LVFFarmVlogs  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      They each have advantages and disadvantages! Pull type's dont have an engine to maintain, but with a self propelled you dont have to look back all day long! Guess its all in what a guy prefers.

    • @derekrisser2219
      @derekrisser2219 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay thank you. I love the fact you that use New Holland equipment too, I live near New Holland Pa, so its nice to see that. Also, I love your videos!

    @jakeziegler599 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Man that will be nice to open up with! So ur selling the old pull type cuz it's wore out? Didn't catch the brand on the engine? Can wait to see it in the field! Nice find

    • @LVFFarmVlogs
      @LVFFarmVlogs  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Jake, it has the Ford engine, same as a Ford 5000 tractor. Not sure what I am doing with the old mower yet, I'm just tired of fixing it. I might just keep it as a back up so if something breaks on the self propelled I can hook up to the old one and keep going.

    I'm personally not a NH guy but that is a pretty good looking machine. Is it a 12 foot cut

    • @LVFFarmVlogs
      @LVFFarmVlogs  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not either but there are a lot of 499 mowers out there and all I hear are good things about them. Yes it is a 12 cut.
