I watched your TH-cam video on the new version. Great, thanks. After you first added Brilliance AI to the photo and showed the result you are able to fine tune the photo. After fine tuning can the final result be saved as a template or preset that can be batched and applied to ANY number of photos afterwards? Is there more control on people in photos - control of not the whole person but just faces specifically? I want to batch lots of photos to brighten faces because I shoot many events without flash and other software will adjust photos but I need all the same adjustments with face brightening. Thanks guys!
The experiments I've done with Brilliance AI and presets... when you save a Preset, have *only* Brilliance AI (and optionally Lens Corrections) set in Develop and also select the Locals but *not* the masks. If you want to control the faces themselves, that's better done with Portrait AI, which you can also include in presets. For AI-based presets, don't include the masks (let ON1 find the person and apply your settings). HTH.

This from a guy who drives a standard shift car. The question is, how much creative decision do I want to concede to a machine? I get that brilliance will take some of the heavy lifting out of the process, but to what end and to whose idea of a ‘perfect” picture? My ideal 24 editor would have all the existing ON1 23 features, but with a new, improved, easier to negotiate interface. Just some questions.
At the risk of answering a rhetorical question ... the answer is zero. If Brilliance AI isn't for you, don't use it. Or use it sparingly, or at lower strength... or to your point, to the level (all, some, none) that aligns with _your_ vision for _your_ photography. And hopefully some of the UI changes in ON1 2024 help with the easier to navigate bit.
Not a great answer to a legitimate question. If you don’t like it don’t use it. I have money and more importantly time invested in ON1 and would like to see it improved, but not radically changed. I also have Luminar Neo and the DXO suite, both which I use and while not perfect, do the trick. On thing ON1 could improve is its crash rate which is far above the other two. In fact I’ve never had a crash with them while ON1 does quite often. This on a Mac with lots of RAM.
Looking forward to you getting your hands on the product and trialling it for us on your own images. The Brilliance AI teasers seem to mask simply into sky and non-sky segments or portrait subject and background. What happens for images that need more sophisticated masking? Mask AI, introduced in ON1 2023, also looked great in the teasers, but turned out to be very hit or miss. For many images, the performance was poor and it was more time-efficient to use a different masking approach and that didn't change with the minor upgrades through the year. In fact, the upgrade that introduced foreground and background as segments seemed to result in a lot of images only having those options in mask AI, not the more sophisticated regional masking which made Mask AI sound so promising. Speed improvements and an improved search interface will be welcome though. No sign of any changes in the blemish removal tools, which is an area I have always struggled with in ON1.
Thanks Scott, looks to be a really big upgrade to the program. You mentioned key commands for the Perfect Brush - one action that I've never discovered the key command for is switching to 'View" from, say, a brush or any other mouse change. Is there one?

Looks like an interesting upgrade, the increased speed will be appreciated. The interface refinements sound good, but for a casual user like myself will be a bit of a learning curve. Looking forward to any tutorials you do, especially workflow with this new interface

Yes, you can batch process portraits. The adaptive presets in Photo RAW 2023 help with this as well. I recall ON1 has posted video tutorials on this topic.

Hmm, Brilliance AI above Tone & Colors? I always start with developing with Tone & Colors (and selecting appropriate camera profile) before anything else. Thought it made more sense to have it at the top. What is your take on this? Once available, would you recommend applying Brilliance AI before or after Tone and Colors? Thank you so much for sharing.
I don't know enough to answer with authority yet. The teaser videos don't show if Brilliance AI makes changes to Tone & Color in Develop, or does that all through the Local Adjustments. Or if Brilliance AI "decides" to change the camera profile. Waiting to get actual stick time with the software.
Not keen on the automagic single slider version of b* AI - that's what made me drop the Skylum subscription. The detailed editing with B* AI seems like a less capable of the auto masking in Lightroom / ACR. With pricing being this crazy high when you want both standalone and plugins, then I don't think I'll renew. The 20% off would help, but it just seems excessive compared to what I pay for Lightroom/Photoshop. It doesn't get anywhere near the same value.

ON1 Photo RAW - jack of all trades, master of none. That's been my experience for a couple of years. Everything with that software is just mediocre, e. g. the quality of the RAW conversion, the perspective correction, the somewhat clunky user interface, to name but a few. Oh yes, and we all have heard and seen those affirmations that everything has been vastly improved by ON1 marketing people ad nauseam, but basically they sell you the same stuff over and over again and you'll be hard pressed to find real improvements or enhancements. Instead, ON1 Photo RAW overwhelms users with the sheer quantity of features and underwhelms with their quality and implementation.
There's too much redundancy in the user interface (UI), so convoluted, making user experience (UX) so frightfully confusing for the casual/occasional user. Over the years as more features got added, the UI became more unwieldy. It's as if tool icons, panels and buttons were randomly thrown around the screen without giving much thought. 😢
Hopefully this is a step in the direction of consolidating functions. There is some value to having certain tools always at your fingertips, less interruption to one's workflow. Though the mask group 'sprawl' was unnecessary and I'm glad that's getting addressed.
For MAX yes, because you're also getting the moral equivalent of Photo RAW (~$99) and all the plugins (~$129). If you use Adobe/Capture One/Photoshop as your hub and only need a few ON1 plugins, buying the individual plugins or the plugin bundle is more economical.
Excellent intro to ON1. Looks like a really good upgrade this year. For me the speed, new UI, highlight recovery will tempt me to break out the credit card 😀

Sounds like lots of improvements that were needed. The face masking is terrible - currently - you can’t separate the mask for each thing - eyes, lips etc - but the new version doesn’t have AI like photoshop can add wings or a limb that’s missing etc. definitely needs more presets
ON1 has said anything either way. Can't say with authority, though I'm hopeful that Brilliance AI will work on an image type (RAW, TIFF, JPG, whatever).
@@ScottDavenport If Brilliance AI works better with RAW files, one could use Topaz Jpeg to RAW for all the Jpeg photos, then to Brilliance AI. . . . Also I am needing to enhance (maybe with Brilliance Ai) 11 hours of 60-year-old 8mm movies, all Tiff Image sequences from a pro film scanner -- one .tiff image for each movie film frame. Possibly could batch process all movie frames through the software.

Haven't seen anything suggesting separation of masks within a face for PortraitAI.
