If you want I can make you a list of things that humans and animals have in common, that previously was thought to be unique human traits.

The ones under my home certainly do, they’ve destroyed the insulation thus they’re warm, have noisy parties often and don’t even pay me rent 😂, trash can have to be secured at all times. I don’t feed them but I won’t harm them either I just “evict” them when is too much by placing rugs loaded with ammonia under the house from time to time. I live in the mountains and we share the space as best as we can. 🤔.

Raccoons are very smart, they have high self-awareness. Once, two raccoons got into my patio in the middle of the night, and I looked them outside my window and they were up close and they stared at me and we actually stared at each other for several seconds. Their eyes have depth, I felt like if they looked into my soul, very strange. Like if they were analyzing me, observing me without fear, with curiosity. All in silence. I felt they were intelligent, can’t explain it. Then they began to step away without hurry or worry, they climbed up my patio door and then they were gone.
Once I was jolted awake in the middle of the night by a loud crashing sound followed by my cat angrily yowling. I ran to the scene of the commotion and there was a raccoon looking through the sliding glass door at my cat. The cat was livid, growling, throwing her body against the glass, but the raccoon seemed completely amused. Like, “You’re so cute when you’re mad.” And then it sauntered off.
Our three neighborhood raccoons visit my porch almost every night in the fall/winter (they love raiding my suet and birdseed feeders), one night I heard them and went to the window right by the porch, there was only a single raccoon that night. I was right by the window just watching him try to grab the suet feeder and he spotted me. He came right over to the window on the porch railing which surprised me, I thought he would take off. We stared at each other and I got a couple pictures of him, it was a sweet moment, he didn’t seem scared just cautious and curious, I’ve never had one come that close since. They may raid my feeders but I adore them all the same. 🦝

On average racoons live 2 to 3 years, this raccoon has most likely never seen snow before, may not be a "he", it didn't know what snow was, it wasn't knowing anything, the only thing you can know for a fact at that point was it was simply a curious racoon.

You're lucky. We used to see em all the time, all over the place, from babies to big fat adults, but now I rarely see them, and when I do they look skinny. A couple of them at a park walked straight up to me, literally with their little hands out. I felt awful because I didn't have any of whatever they eat, though I'm fairly sure someone feeds them regularly, since there's a lot of bleeding hearts here. The deers' only predators are automobiles. For whatever reason though, we see a lot more skunks as the Racoon population declined.
I love raccoons 💜💜💜 they really are a sweet cuddly loving animal….had a friend who rescued a nursery of 3 little kits who lost their mother..they were just adorable…loved sitting outside on her driveway apron at night and they’d slowly and quietly step up to you and want to be held..so content to just cuddle in your lap💜💜
I've been viewing live streams of abandoned houses where they put out cat food and treats for Raccoons who took over the houses it's hilarious and they're so Fluffy like Butterballs!! 😂
We lived on an acre and, for years, the raccoons would cross a small stream to come to our back door (their little wet feet) most nights so we could feed them. One momma would bring her little ones with her. It might’ve been wrong or even dangerous, but it went on for years. Their little faces and hands - we just loved it! 🦝💕🦝
A stray brother and sister pair of cats started coming around my house last summer. I fed them and took a few months to gain their trust before bringing them inside to their new home. I’ll never forget one night as I watched them outside (worrying, always so worried about their safety) and Doe was chasing fireflies. Just this tiny cat, chasing fireflies. Nature can be so magical. 💛
Little miracles of nature don stop to surprise us and bring us to what a beauty life can be... This simple memory is forever etched into the onlooker for life.... Simple and precious 💕

We lived on an acre and, for years, the raccoons would cross a small stream to come to our back door (their little wet feet) most nights so we could feed them. One momma would bring her little ones with her. It might’ve been wrong or even dangerous, but it went on for years. Their little faces and hands - we just loved it! 🦝💕🦝

I clicked for a racoon trying to catch snow and I got a racoon trying to catch snow.
A stray brother and sister pair of cats started coming around my house last summer. I fed them and took a few months to gain their trust before bringing them inside to their new home. I’ll never forget one night as I watched them outside (worrying, always so worried about their safety) and Doe was chasing fireflies. Just this tiny cat, chasing fireflies. Nature can be so magical. 💛
Little miracles of nature don stop to surprise us and bring us to what a beauty life can be... This simple memory is forever etched into the onlooker for life.... Simple and precious 💕
