I work for Harley as a welder. I LOVE seeing how people take apart my work and make it their own. Keep at it!
hi XeroFX...that is one of the best comments...thanks for the cool words and good vibes...much respect for your skills....you awesome....Jordan @ Rasta Choppers
I didn't know in the beginning stages that building bikes can be addictive. Since my first build, I've built two more. Now there's a hardtail frame for a bigtwin sitting in my garage just chomping at the bit to be built. Great video, man.
hi Saddle...that's awesome bro...yes very addictive....thanks for the cool words....Jordan @ Rasta Choppers
I am only on my second... First one was a stripped down Suzuki chopper.... Now I am building a 2 wheeled KITT (Knight Rider) themed bike out of a Honda PC800... Even though I am an electrician, I am in deep waters with all the electronics I am adding! LOL
But it is addictive for sure! lol
@@JokerInk-CustomBuilds That's awesome Bro...yes addictive...i had no idea how many wires were on a bike until i took one apart...you have skills to be able to rewire one...thanks for the cool words...keep sharing your experience.
Dude, I'm not sure about your chopper building skills, I just discovered the channel but you are an exceptional communicator. You are succinct, clear and to the point, your upbeat energy and enthusiasm are infectious and the whole process seems more alike an exciting adventure than a daunting ordeal. You're good at this is all I have to say.

Dude! In middle Georgia these bikes are everywhere for around 35 hundred dollars with an average of 9k on the odo!.
that's a good price for a chopper...if it runs....get it....is that your bike in the photo?....nice.
@@rastachoppers Yeah, that's my 05 wide glide. I like it the way it is, basically stock with screaming eagle. Also have an 02 lowrider and a 57 sportster, also called the ironhead nowadays. I am an electrician by trade. I managed to build my own Suzuki Intruder Chopper in a garage using nothing but batterypowered handtool from my work van... And yeah, I spraycanned the whole bike and handpainted custom decorations using a variation of paints...
This video has alot of good tips. My most important would be to never take anything apart unless you make sure you can put it back together. And definetly ask for help and advice from someone before tackling anything new.
hi JokerInk...thanks for the cool words Bro...i appreciate you sharing your experience...that's good advice...keep on building...Jordan @ Rasta Choppers
the intruder is the coolest metric chopper platform ever made. i wanted to build one also, but i ended up going with what i already have, a 900 vulcan custom. i just started mine last summer. i do it in spurts so i can still ride. so far, i did the front end, and taller bars. i am part way through making the tall sissybar.

I’m planning on building a chopper hot rod hybrid, I don’t really trust my self on 2 wheels but I wanna go ride and enjoy the open road so I’m gonna find a bike, chop it up build my own trike convertion kit for it, using a go kart racing rear end and custom hubs to bolt on car wheels in there rear, thinking about buy a cheap low back muscle car style seat as well

@@rastachoppers Thanks for the reply Jordan! I will probably give those a try, I have already figured out a way to replace the electric starter on the hand controls, do you know any creative ways to replace the buttons for the lights on the hand controls?
I should probably clarify, I’m going for that clean hand control look that the choppers with not electrical wires on the bars have.

hi Dwayne....yes a frame build is great if you have the skills...it harder too do this way...need lots of mechanical experience...cool bro
Ive been looking into building a more modern chopper style softail bobber, starting with a m8 114 street bob. Any other advice on how to deal with the extra electrical?
hi Booth...try to reuse the original electrical harness....makes it easier...add extensions if lengthening the bike ....there isn't too much extra....all those wires go somewhere....placement too hide the wires is usually under the seat....good vibes...Jordan @ Rasta Choppers
Why avoid 110v welding? I don’t have a 220v, just bought a 110v because that’s what my house is able to withstand. Would it still be okay if the welding was done correctly? Love your channel!
hi Greaser...thank for the cool words...110v is not strong enough for penetration on the frame...you want to be sure the weld has penetrated around the plug....it's an easy job for a welder....takes about 20 minutes...the 110 welder is fine to use for everything else...oil tank brackets, seat, sissy bar....awesome you building a chopper....good vibes....Jordan @ Rasta Choppers

What would you say is a reasonable price for a donor bike to start?
hi Summer...thanks for the cool words...around $3,500 - $5k.....getting a well running donor bike is key so find one that has been kept inside...don't use a bike that has been outside under a tarp....awesome you going to build a chopper....good vibes. Jordan @ Rasta Choppers

Here’s a great tip for anyone building an Ironhead sportster. Do not use the voodoo vintage hardtail! It’s very hard to work with and definitely not something I’d recommend for a beginner
hi Sucram....thanks for tip....i appreciate you sharing...did you finish the build? ride safe bro....Jordan @ Rasta Choppers
@@rastachoppers I’ve just about finished up, I need to make the sissybar and wire it up and then I’m on the road! It’s my first bike I’ve ever had/built into a chopper. What do you think about swingarm norcal sporster? Is it a chopper?
hi Vladislav..if it's a stock sportster frame with no modifications then no....if the front end has been raked then a swingarm can be a chopper....the general consensus is some kind of frame modification has to be made....either a hardtail or raked and extended front end or both... im interested in hearing what people call choppers so let me know what you think.....Jordan @ Rasta Choppers
What would you consider low miles? A 1997 sportster 1200 with 20k miles is catching my eye. It’s 100% stock.
hi Taylor...20k miles or under....for a 1997 that's perfect...if it has been well maintained...and runs wells....go for it bro....Jordan @ Rasta Choppers
You mentioned why you don't want a bike newer than 2003 is due to the engine mounts but is there a reason not to go older than 96 for the donor bike? Asking because it seems like a lot of choppers I see have 78 or older motors and wasn't sure if there was a reason why?
hi Beep...thanks for the cool words...newer engines tend to be easier to work with and maintain....and easier to get parts....and tend to have less miles so you might not need to do a lot of engine work. Older engines are the authentic chopper engines...good vibes...Jordan @ Rasta Choppers

For the love of Odin, don't buy any sportster made after 05-06. I'm not sure exactly on the year but after 05, if you need to repair/ replace your transmission you need to split the cases to get the transmission out which is NOT recommended for a first time builder.

he Ben...thanks advice...appreciate the words.
why does almost every one think if he has a Harley , he got a chopper ?, … that is a speciality of Harley : that u can’t build a chopper out of it !, because a Harley has no rake for it , so u would have to weld a new steering column , & that is the point when the Co. initialized a lawsuit against all Harley owners who did so , so : a Harley owner was not allowed to call the bike Harley Davidson any more , after literally the frame was rebuild
Hi Marine...thanks for the words....true the frame is no longer a HD frame...but the engine is Harley Davidson....that's why people call them HD's....good vibes....Jordan @ Rasta Choppers
@@rastachoppers right , the reason HD filed a lawsuit is because of the US Insurance policies , HD did not want to be responsible for any accidents, in case someone screwed around with the frame especially rebuilding the steering column ,anyway just a bit paint & an ape hanger doesn’t make a chopper , but I respect the effort & spirit behind attempt ❤️ to own a real chopper ist all we dream of & literally can’t wait to realize , but do not forget , life is short , do it ❤️
hi Marine...when you chop the frame and weld on the hardtail you have made a chopper.....modified the frame...you can also change the rake of the front end.
Tells us not to hold a bike off TH-cam videos labels his TH-cam video guid to building choppers lol
Can you be my teacher? Can i be your student?
hi Santiago...thanks for the cool words...I am organizing a class for this summer in Miami....4 weeks...if interested send me your email....good vibes....Jordan @ Rasta Choppers
once again : u cannot make a chopper from a HD , because a HD has no frame for this project , the steering rake is too lo & again : a ape hanger doesn’t make a chopper , ape hanger we used as kids on a pedal bike just to imagine we’d had a chopper , but it was more in our heads , living a phantasy
Thanks Marine....true choppers have modified frames....good vibes
You dont need a guide, just copy what everyone else does
hi Fisher....true....you still need the skills and experience....thanks for the words....Jordan @ Rasta Choppers
I've been riding for 53 yrs. The reason I'm still riding is I stayed away from death machines like these. I have owned & ridden choppers - Pans & Shovelheads. But I learned to ride stock bikes or lightly customized bikes. They handle well and stop well. They will keep you much safer. Rigid frames bounce and don't handle. They also destroy your back. Now add a springer front end that can pogo in a corner and you lose control. Your done. Brakes are another issue depending on the bike. Yes, I life changing experience - or life ending.
hi Martin....true words....i appreciate you spreading the warnings....thanks for watching....Jordan @ Rasta Choppers
I don't understand why you build them in the first place. Not to mention they are not legal on the roads. I used to ride a stock 1970 Shovelhead FLH. My buddy rode a chopper. We were always getting pulled over by the cops. They never bothered me but harasses the hell out of him. If I tried riding one of those in the state of Pennsylvania where I live I'd be fined out of existence.@@rastachoppers
hi Martin....luckily here in Miami they are street legal and the cops like them...i know that other states are not as receptive....stay safe Brother and thanks for the words.
Do you find that people telling you to go fuck yourself also lengthens your riding life?
I never knew why they were called choppers is it because you chop them up and build them from scratch?
