    I think what sales Festool is the concept that they are very long lasting tools. I cannot bring myself to buy Festool because I could own at least two Makita tools for the price of one Festool. With that being sad I can most likely get many years out of a Makita tool so it more than paid for itself.

    You should try the Milwaukee hydraulic Surge impact. Here in the states they are about $149 bare tool. Much quieter and smoother. I would gladly sacrifice 1-2 seconds of speed for comfort.

    • @01Msport
      @01Msport 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only problem is Milwaukee’s switch or something fails in the surge impacts. We had three fail now the forward/reverse switch doesn’t change the direction. I found throwing the tool on the floor real hard fixes it (because we got mad that a 3rd one died). Too bad, I love the surge but for real workers using it daily for low torque applications they need to improve their build quality.

  • @grumpywiseguy5992
    @grumpywiseguy5992 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    There is more to a tool than simply speed. Ergonomics plays a large part. How the tool fits in your hand, how heavy is it, can you use it all day long? How reliable is it over time. Does the Milwaukee have as good a warranty and can you find someone to fix it. You must have to have it rebuilt. Also, how loud is the Milwaukee? I have a Makita compact impact wrench that is tiny but is so loud that I have to wear ear protection to use it. Are the Milwaukee batteries guaranteed for 3 years? So many variables and so many choices in the market right now. There are probably 20 different models of impact drivers out there right now. Given such confusion, it is comforting to know that Festool at least looks at the system aspects of ALL their tools, and so one knows that pretty much every tool one obtains in the Festool line is well made, someone actually thought about what and who is going to use it, and that it is guaranteed for a decent amount of time. Let the kid use the Milwaukee. He probably doesn't care about his hearing nor what is going to happen 3 years from now.

      @@ManorWood Milwaukee uses better components on their power train, to deliver amazing results, and puts a lot of emphasis on user interface, design and feel. But in order to reach the consumer market along side the pro market, they have to value engineer. The tools themselves rarely break, under even the worst conditions, but the stupid stuff like the trigger mechanisms do. But the end user rarely knows the failure mode, just the fact that the stupid thing stopped working, usually when it was needed. Milwaukee tools would cost as much or more than festool (probably more) if they didn't value engineer and used pro quality components throughout the whole tool, not just the parts that sell. But for "pro-sumers" the trade off is just right. Home gamers, and light duty pros get a very high quality, durable tool with a built in aneurism, a trigger assembly doomed for failure with a motor that will literally last forever inside a glass fiber reinforced plastic housing that can get runover by a tank. Pros will use the warranty when it fails in a year or so, or simply repair the tool themselves if they're so inclined. Home gamers will have a tool that's reliable for 5-10 years, for a price that doesn't relegate them to buying low grade junk.
      Festool, until recently, puts brushed motors in all their tools. A small number of their cordless tools are brushless, but then, they only have a small number of tools to begin with. Festool couldn't fill a single shelf in my shop with their entire tool line. Milwaukee makes complete tool lines, in hand and power tools, for several trades. Plumbers, electricians, carpenters, finish carpenters, industrial mechanics.... all have cordless tool options with milwaukee with brushless DC motors that are very friendly on batteries. Festool insists on brushed motors.. for one reason, in my opinion, that pro warranty. By keeping the motors brushed, they keep the overall costs down on the tools, and it offers a selling point on that pro warrantly ( we replace the brushes for free for 3 years, as much as you need). Except they should be using all brushless motors now.

  • @JHorvathCinema
    @JHorvathCinema 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Milwaukee beats everything except for the Hitachi triple hammer for power, interestingly the festool is gaining some traction among builders in the states, cause it’s a lot more comfortable to use all day. The first day I had the milwaukee I was breaking off 4” screws in fir studs, literally twisting them to failure. Buy what makes to happy on this one I think

    • @Tunfy

      Manor Wood The Festool is more like a Bosch first version of impact drills , that means that the impact hits are smooth and less powerfull and the tool last longer because the impact forces are lower the consumption is lower , thats why the Milfackee burns out very fast , and the Bosch its a copy of Hilti from first generation and they were made in Switzerland at Bosch Scintilla (best tools ever at that era) with a direct competition with Festo , soo the smoother are the impacts the better for the tool and for the wooden piece that receive the vibration thru screws. Hilti has a good balance between power of impact and speed .You don’t need the most powerful tool you need the most balanced one , and in my opinion raported at what i do (both workshop and field montages) Hilti is the shit , for furniture and light work Festool , but if i use Festool outside in bad weather they will stop at dust and water , festool have a safety sistem that stops the tool when sense water and dust and that’s why i choose Hilti.

      Not sure where you're based but here in the UK there really isn't much in it if you shop around... sometimes the festool is cheaper, as is the case with the equivalent cordless sds drills..

    • @RoguePhysicist
      @RoguePhysicist 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Except when you take in to consideration long term usage. Festool is made in Germany. Milwaukee is made in China. After a dozen or so months of constant use, you'll probably have to replace the Chinese drill with a new one. And the Festool will still be operating like new.
      Made in China: NO THANKS.
