What a wonderful list of hidden gems to visit and unique, delicious things to eat in Kyoto! I always aim to avoid crowds when I travel, so these tips are perfect for me. Thank you, Shinichi and Satoshi. Traveling with you is always a pleasure. 💙💚
I avoided Honshu until now because I was dreading navigating my way around all these people. Then recently I convinced myself that I too deserve to be a tourist in the crowd! Booked my flights to Kyoto next sakura season. I'll keep these places in mind when I get tired of all the tourist hotspots. Thank you for showing us!
I cannot thank you enough for this video, two weeks ago I visited Kyoto with my wife and we enjoyed some of the recommendations in this video. Thank you from Mexico
Absolutely fantastic combination of food and sites to visit ! The video keeps one engaged - so much information we had to replay it a few times ! Good work guys ! ❤love from Florida USA ❤
Love this list! Great editing btw; always love your videos! It feels like I'm hanging out with dear friends😊 My husband and I made it the Kyoto Railway Museum last year and boy, what a find! We got there 2 hours before closing and it was NOT enough! Plan at least 4 hours or even the whole day if you are train nerds 😜 keep up the great work and can't wait for more adventures to inspire our own!
You had me at trains! Sugoi😍😍😍 Love all the quiet spots especially the temples and the canal. I always wanted to visit Kyoto because my Obachan went to school there( Kibe). But I don't like loud noisy crowds or long lines for sightseeing. Now you show me there are places to take a break!
Thank you for another great video! We are leaving in two days, and I will definitely be taking my "second" trip to Kyoto first!!! Off the beaten path is where it's at for me!
Very glad Tofukuji gets a mention, its gardens are really cool (I love the checkerboard pattern a lot) and it's easy to get to after a Fushimi Inari climb (instead of going down to the main grounds, go north from the shops and the city view cliff at Yotsuji, towards Kojingamine Observation deck).
Love the video, got some great tips for my next visit! A "hidden" gem my friend showed me last time is the bakery underneath Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station. There's a small shopping area and there's a bakery there that I don't even know the name of. Nothing fancy, just locals enjoying some very tasty baked goods. And some days there's market outside the bakery, where local artists sell their artwork. I also love the Hyakumanben Chion-ji Temple that hosts a arts and crafts market on the 15th every month. It gets very crowded but it's a great place for food and local Kyoto culture and we didn't see many tourists the last time we went.
I love you guys! And your english is so good! I got back from Kyoto in Oct and I've already bought a ticket to go back in April. I'm going to watch this video over and over because I want to do all these things! Thank you so much!
I've been subscribed to your channel for at least 5 years, but I'm going to Japan for the first time in January and February 2025. Thank you so much for this very informative video. I've been looking for hidden gems in Kyoto (the older I get, the more I want to avoid crowds hehe). I'll watch your other videos to create my itinerary.
Love the onigiri shop and wagashi shop. And shotengai are always fun to visit. If youbrwally want to see some of the more popular places my tip is, go early. Just around opening. It's less busy then. And if you want to see the area it doesn't matter if things are just opening. And there is simply something about a temple or shrine in early morning.
Thank you guys, your videos lovely as always! I will be hungry when watching you eat delicious food again and again! And this hidden gems is amazing, and I want to move to Japan right now. 🙏🩷 🇯🇵 I don’t know what can I working there, but I want to inhale this culture so much. 😊
Those sesame crepes looks amazing. Thank you for making these off the beaten path videos. I will use this video as a reference for my next Kyoto trip. Thank you!
Just arrived in Kyoto last night. Saw the video this morning and my first place to visit was the.Tofukuji temple. Very few people there and absolutely amazing! I’m planning the next two or three days around your suggestions as I too hate too many people.
Just stumbled on your Channel today. and liking it a lot. Going back to Japan in a couple of weeks so this is a nice alternative to the usual Kyoto (I have been to tofukuji the last time I was there!)
Thanks for the suggestions. I would go to Yokai Street, the train museum and of course eat several things like the kimchi and matcha croquette, the crepe which soundes delicious and each and every one of the mochis 😅
Oh that is a lovely tea cup you bought. I will pin the places on my map for my next trip. Last time I've been to Fushimi Sake Village next time I'll try yours.
You guys have really nice calf muscle tone. It's a treat to see them whenever you guys have full body framed video of you two walking away from the camera
Last time I was in Kyoto, my hotel was near the Sanjokai shopping street. I was going past it everyday, looked super interesting, but my stay was too packed and didn't had time to try the shops, except the Lawson. Next time I'll spend more time there. A lot of people don't realize that Kyoto is actually a very quiet and peaceful city, just need to be out of the tourists areas.
As Shinichi mentioned at the end. these sort of 'secret spots' are more suited for people who've already been to Kyoto before, and are looking for a more laidback experience. A lot of tourists would think visiting non-famous landmarks or picnicking by the river to be a waste of time, especially for first time visitors who have a case of FOMO.
These are so great! I am planning to go back to Kyoto and found this video.. will it be enough to go to all of this places within 1-day? Or I better allocate 2 days ?
I’m headed to Japan on a group tour. I’m not looking forward to crowded tour spots. I hope to see the hidden spot and back streets and roads. I wish the guide would change the itinerary. If I visit second time, I would love to do it on my own. It would take a lot of planning. I’m from Hawaii. Bro, take me.
We couldn’t find an exact address but this is for the shop next to it. 14-3 Mibubabamachi Nakacho-ku Kyoto City, Kyoto maps.app.goo.gl/epNU73NgKgtDQitE9?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy

We're so happy you enjoyed the video. We love discovering hidden gems and sharing them with others!
I hate crowds. This video was made for me.
Thanks, guys! If I ever get to visit Japan I'm remembering this.👍🏻😊
Again, a very timely video for my Kyoto /osaka trip at the end of the year. Thank you again gents!
Enjoy your trip!
I’m excited to go to Japan for the first time spending a few days in Kyoto. I dislike crowds. The locals must dislike it too.
I avoided Honshu until now because I was dreading navigating my way around all these people. Then recently I convinced myself that I too deserve to be a tourist in the crowd! Perfect timing, guys! My husband and I will be in Kyoto next month and will add these spots to our adventures. Thank you😉
We’re so glad you enjoyed the video! Hope you have a great time in Kyoto!

It was so nice running into you at the Sanjo shotengai!! Im glad to see you enjoyed all it had to offer on that day. Thanks for making my day!
It was a pleasure meeting you there!

We also feel like we need to go back to the train museum. We only had an hour there!
Just love this video! Entertaining and informative!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Kyoto is a truly special place.

What a nice video! I love the tips about sweets! Thank you.
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed the sweet tips.
I found the Horikawa walk in 2019 on my 2nd trip to Kyoto and loved how peaceful it was.
You all hit all my favorite spots! This part of the Kamo is part of my daily morning walks!!!
I love watching my unofficial uncles explore - very relaxing esp when I'm under the weather
Get better soon
Thank you for the video. I was surprised by the number of tourists.

Absolutely great video! I have been very worried about large crowds in Kyoto, almost to the point where I didn't want to revisit. Thank you!
This was quite enjoyable 😍🥰

Wagashi looks so good
I always love your videos. Please do a video about places with accessibility in Tokyo and Kyoto.
Those sesame crepes looks amazing. Thank you for making these off the beaten path videos. I will use this video as a reference for my next Kyoto trip. Thank you!

wow! so cool places
Thanks guys for these excellent suggestions! I have my family coming to visit next march, and I think they would love these places.
Hope they have a great time!
Higashi Honganji was the first temple I visited my first time to Kyoto and it made a huge impression on me.
Absolutely loved visiting Fushimi - we did a sake brewery tour at Gekkeikan which was very interesting
Thanks for the suggestions. I would go to Yokai Street, the train museum and of course eat several things like the kimchi and matcha croquette, the crepe which soundes delicious and each and every one of the mochis 😅
😍😍😍😍 thank you
Thank you Shinichi and Satoshi for this information..I luv mochi,onigiri..I want to try this if I will go to kyoto again
Oh that is a lovely tea cup you bought. I will pin the places on my map for my next trip. Last time I've been to Fushimi Sake Village next time I'll try yours.
I LOOOVE Yomogimochi. ❤
Some great suggestions gents. I have seen some TH-camrs hire bikes and explore some of the featured locations that way
Wonderful video
Glad you liked it!
The croquette shop would be my favorite.
I love the idea of hidden gems, but I always worry about videos like this changing that.
Great video. Thanks for showing us around ❤
Thanks for watching!

Now the video goes viral with millions of views 😂
The Yokai street is someplace we would enjoy visiting. When is the parade?
I believe around the 3rd Saturday of October
I love onigiry ❤
Thank you for uploading wonderful videos. Could you please let me know what flour is used in crepe 21:10
Thank you for watching. They use buckwheat flour blended with sesame seeds.
@ Wow! Sounds delicious. Next time, I will definitely go there. Thank you so much 🙇♀️
These are so great! I am planning to go back to Kyoto and found this video.. will it be enough to go to all of this places within 1-day? Or I better allocate 2 days ?
wow cant wait to go kyoto again and put these tips to use!
The location sound reminded me of NERV alerts XD
I’m headed to Japan on a group tour. I’m not looking forward to crowded tour spots. I hope to see the hidden spot and back streets and roads. I wish the guide would change the itinerary.
If I visit second time, I would love to do it on my own. It would take a lot of planning. I’m from Hawaii. Bro, take me.
The only tourists you’ll see at the Kamogawa Park would be people looking for K-On and Tamako Market scenes.😅
Hello do you have the full address for tanaka shoten? I cannot find on google maps :(
We couldn’t find an exact address but this is for the shop next to it.
14-3 Mibubabamachi Nakacho-ku Kyoto City, Kyoto

21:40 I think this would be better as a sandwich instead of a crepe
😘😘❤️😍🥰🤩🌹🙏🌈💯
Those gems are now far from hidden, prepare for a crowd of hundreds of tourists in each of them.
とても楽しんでおられ、こちらも行きたい場所が出てきてワクワクしました。が、日本語訳の表示が酷すぎます。
ありがとうございます!日本語訳、間に合っておりませんで失礼いたしました。もう少しお待ちくださいませ。
hmmmm,... the ultimate quiet and secret ... hiking up to Doshisha Cemetery,... guaranteed zero foreign tourists ....
capybara meat sir
Saying the first isn't a tourist spot lol
