just brilliant. the look in his face for the back half of bird is bored of flying wrecks me. what a devastating song. rest in peace. and thank you for sharing with us
This is one of those videos that is ended up being more significant than we knew when it first came out. Scott's words and music touched so many of us and I'm glad we have these records of him performing his work. Entirely as a side note, quite fun to play at 125% speed...

I can’t begin to imagine what Scott’s bandmates must be going through today, especially Grant. Being in a band is like having an extended family, with a communal signature. And all the best bands learn to communicate without words. This can’t be bought. Depression is a cruel mistress. I hope that Scott has found the peace that eluded him here with us and I hope that his family, loved ones and band mates can draw some comfort from that. Rest in peace Scott. 💔
sunshaped Was fortunate enough to catch them playing The Cluny in Newcastle on 26/04/18. The band were so tight and Scott was full of banter. Really quite devastating. I hope he's found his peace.
It was painfully sad to hear the news when it happened, and it's becoming sadder and sadder with every day, just realizing, feeling his aliveness in these very recent videos. I'm glad you were able to experience this new project live and that you have that memory. I can't even imagine what his brother and other bandmates are all experiencing right now. It's heartwrenching just even attempting to think about that.
Saw them in Manchester, first time I had seen Scott live. He had the venue in his hand, the most charismatic, warmest, and charming front man I have seen and the band played a great set. Agree that the news last week gets sadder and sadder and really feel for Grant and the family, friends and bandmates. A massive loss.
pAtriCk pAtRiCk I just came across this a little while ago, and I remembered you'd mentioned Newcastle. Some good pictures here..it's also a good read. If you've not seen it, here's a link: blank-slate-creative.com/2018/05/for-scott-hutchison-thank-you-for-the-music-mental-health-awareness-week/
sunshaped Thanks so much for the heads up. I can only echo the sentiments of the reviewer on what a great night this was. It is so conflicting looking at the pics of The Cluny gig. Memories of such a special night which will now forever be overshadowed by the events that tragically unfolded less than 14 days later. I'll always be grateful I was able to experience one of only a handful of Mastersystem gigs in such an intimate environment.
Incredible sound... like a louder, more raw Frightened Rabbit. They all seemed so excited for this project, such a shame that we'll never get to hear what else they could have done. Scott you will be missed so much!
One of my fav songs from the album, and I had the exact same 'Ugh' feeling when I heard those words (hadn't listened to the album until about 2 weeks after he passed away, just couldn't...)
I feel like this album, lyrically, was one big SOS from him. The music is so deceptive in the way it rocks in this kind of majestic way, and most of the words are pretty damn dark, with no real hope in sight.
@@Logielogie44 In the wake of his death, I read the whole album as one long suicide note. It's not like he hasnt mentioned doing before in his other work. My idle and hero, always visit this album around this time of year.
@@Alexander-Vipermad I agree with you there. I will also add for anyone who doesnt know, Scott only inputted the lyrics on this album. He didnt write any of the music nor played any of the music on it. He did live but not in the studio. It's an absolutely fantastic album.
Wow, I just found out about this today 2/13/24 from reading about the Augustines. Never knew FR did this MasterSystem thing. RIP Scott. Hope the mates are okay. Cheers.
Man. I just can't stand this we got from Master System. It reminds me so much of good Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Nirvana and the whole 90s grunge vibe, from a Frightened Rabbit perspective. So, so, missed, Scott. Always
I thought of him when my lad played me these guys. If big country had this sound when at 1983 Reading Festival , the crummy metal heads would’ve respected them more than the shit they got - along with The Enid. - time machines weren’t invented then though !
I think it's a Custom 77 T-Sonic YTH - Justin Lockey plays one so I guess Nicholas did standing in for him in this session and on the live dates Mastersystem did.
So bloody good. I come back to this set every few months and every time i get blown away how perfect it is.
Rest in Peace Scott. The changes you have made to all of our lives has been massive. Thank you.

Notes On A *Life* not Quite Lived
When I dreamed the fusion about frightened rabbit and mogwai and its here, Scott's last gift from his genius.

I love the way he puts every ounce of his being into every word. I envy everyone who got to see mastersystem live on their brief tour.

Still heartbroken over his passing....so sad, Brilliant human
RIP Scott, always missed! They rocked the shit out of this show! Amazing!!
This Sound is so great and Grant is kicking ass. Love the record. We miss you Scott
I can't believe there aren't any guitar tabs of this album anywhere on the Internet
You will be forever missed--rest well--your pain is over
This is just an unbelievable set. I fucking love that album!!!!!
Watched this a hundred times
In terms of rocking heavy, right up there with anything Aereogramme did
rock on ; )
This is so incredible. RIP Scott, you are missed.
I can't fucking believe it. This was the best sound around. How can it be? How?
Gregory Laskaris agreed mate. Phenomenal music. Addicted to these songs.
From Waste of Daylight: "I missed the summer, but didn't care..There will always be another, if I make it through next year..." Ugh.
One of my fav songs from the album, and I had the exact same 'Ugh' feeling when I heard those words (hadn't listened to the album until about 2 weeks after he passed away, just couldn't...)

The lyrics of "The bird is bored" ring true for how he must have been feeling.

Just perfect.
I saw them play at the Oslo. I had no idea how much his death was going to affect me for the next two years of my life. Miss you Scott.
what a sound , stay safe, horrible news this morning
I read that Old Team was Scott's favorite song from this album.
Come home, Scott. People love and care about you.
Stuart Adamson said: all you need is guitars and drums. He wasn't wrong

"notes on a life not quite lived"....but you did....
does anyone else see the way grant keeps looking at scott like with a concerned look
Thanks for this! BBC won't let us watch when we're outside of Britain
I’m watching from Ireland so
Grunge lives!
Heartbroken
Does anybody know if the vinyl version of "dance music" has a booklet with lyrics?
No it doesn't. The lyrics are available online though.
Did they not play proper home or is it just not in this video? Real shame it’s not.
No, they did not. But you can find it on TH-cam.Along with some others. Cheers
Does anyone know what guitar Scott’s using in this video?
Hard to know the year but the model is a fender tele deluxe
Anyone know what the black guitar is?
I think it's a Custom 77 T-Sonic YTH - Justin Lockey plays one so I guess Nicholas did standing in for him in this session and on the live dates Mastersystem did.
It's called "The Watcher" from French maker Custom 77.
What guitar is Scott using here ? Rip
Telecaster Deluxe in Sonic Grey
maximum riffage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is punk as fuck.
Drummer is a caveman XD
R.D. Dragon that's Scott's brother, Grant
Yep
R.D. Dragon The greatest drummers usually are. ✊🏻
