However, he began to develope an obsession with jutsus and he wanted to learn more. He wanted to learn every jutsu there is. So his former goal of saving everyone from death changed to the wish of being immortal so he can have enough time to learn every jutsu. And he didn't stop there, he also studied a lot of Kekkei Genkai or other innate abilities. Most of them however were not of immediate interest for him, at least not to use them on his own. Most of them were just experiments or he used them on other ways, like the Curse Mark which was a result of Jugo's Kekkei Genkai, or Hashirama's cells which he used in several experiments (Yamato).

Generally, the "villain, because he lost a girl he loved" is a trope that is so used up that it just fails to make a character interesting. Its no where near as layered or tragic as, say, Itachis backstory. Or even Sasoris. And yes, also Orochimarus. They all have a lot more going on than "oh, I once lost a girl and now I'm mad at the world because now that I'm an adult I still have the mind of a child".

He became evil because he couldn’t accept the fact that he lived in a world where the best option for someone in rin’s position was death. That he lived in a world filled with suffering and that there was nothing he could do about it. Saving Rin would’ve helped counter this belief. It would’ve brought him hope but her death only confirmed the things Madara told him that he didn’t want to believe. I’m a new fan to this show though but I’ve been diving deep into the whole thing. His character used to be awesome, someone who's seen so much death in his life that he grew to fear it and did anything to become immortal. He fought his master to get rid the last bit of humanity he had, and ironically became immortal once he found out that his true calling was not to destroy konoha but help sasuke find answers for itachi's death.
So, orochimaru fell off the deep end, died, came back broad as fuck, got scared of a few zombies, turned himself into a bishonen and then decided that he wanted to do the mad science thing, but a little bit more ethically.
The flaw in this scenario is that Orochimaru didn’t need itachi or sasuke then, he could have just took any one from Uchiha clan. That would have been a lot easier.

So, orochimaru fell off the deep end, died, came back broad as fuck, got scared of a few zombies, turned himself into a bishonen and then decided that he wanted to do the mad science thing, but a little bit more ethically.
The flaw in this scenario is that Orochimaru didn’t need itachi or sasuke then, he could have just took any one from Uchiha clan. That would have been a lot easier.
