Finally a developer who is actually nice to his fans. He did not say a release date because he did not want to let any fans down with delays and he wants to make the best possible game

It's hard for me not to enjoy an interview with sean, incredibly humble and honest, the game will most likely achieve what I want out of it. Since all I'm looking for is interesting planets and animals. I don't particularly care about side quests or main missions, im just interested in the exploration. Which is the main usp of the game. People are expecting witcher style rpg mission elements and building like minecraft, but this isn't that game, it is its own unique thing.

Yeah. I constantly got the feeling that some words he wanted to say but couldn't say were, "I don't want to trick people into buying my game if it's not for them". Reason being his publisher would probably throttle him for it. To a publisher it's always gotta be sell sell sell. Get the money by any means necessary. Release an unfinished game, pocket the pre-order cash, blame the dev, sell the studio and buy a new cheap young dev company. Rinse and repeat.
It's a tough industry for someone as honest as Sean. Hope he's faring it well.

leandro5455 Either they're not sure if they can stick to it due to development issues, or with all of the awesome games coming out later this year and early next, they don't want NMS to get lost in the crowd. Playstation doesn't have a lot coming out this year, most of their titles are 2016 or even 2017. Maybe they are trying to better gauge the response before releasing a date? i.e. If Sony thinks that NMS will be able to hold it's head above water this fall and be the shoulder Playstation needs to lean on maybe it will come out this year. If they think it will get lost in the crowd they might hold off until there is less noise from other games and it will be able to get the recognition it deserves.
Better than announcing it just to delay it. I think there should be a 3-6 months rule, anytning before that and you can confirm your release.
Right. I was pumped when Arkham Knight was unveiled last year with a release date of last October. When it was delayed until this June (next week lol) I was bummed. I would definitely rather have them take their time to finish it instead of releasing a broken and unfinished game, but I was disappointed at the delay. I would have preferred they just said June from the beginning.
He said it was "out of his control" meaning fallout 4 got announced right around their date and he was smart and knew that he might be fucked.

I mean, if it doesn't have VR support, fingers crossed that some modder picks up where the developer left off? VR tech is going to be ever-present starting at the beginning of 2016, and this game would be just perfect for VR.
What a great guy. The big PR "we're not ready to talk about multiplayer yet" machines could learn a thing or two.
They've shown footage of huge land animals but only small marine wildlife. I hope there is some huge prehistoric fish or something. The animals we going to be one of the best parts of this game, so long as there's a ton.
On the first video of No Man's Sky, you can see giant animals like dinosaurs!

+Caleb Stafford yes it has been confirmed that planets do sometimes have oceans extremely deep and i see no reason why as long as it can fit comfortably there wouldn't be any huge marine life! also i heard somewhere that the devs were thinking of adding space whales which you might come across just swimming slowly through the galaxy which has me soo pumped!
I really like this guy. I feel like No Man's Sky will be a very polished and complete experience.
Just imagine NMS and Just Cause crossbreed: You're a Han Solo-type who hijacks spaceships in the middle of a space battle, and go Baumgartner-style base jump on any random planet.

This game looks incredibly boring.
Well, it's hard to show what a game this big has to offer in a 3 minute demo, or a 12 minute demo, or a 30 minute demo. Maybe it will be boring, but I read the GI story on it, and to ME it sounds fuckin awesome. We'll see.
Well watching a sandbox game is always boring like how rpgs are boring to watch also its one of those type of games where you have to experience. And like he said it's hard to talk about games like this at conferences because of their latge scoper

He said he the E3 demo seemed boring; it was awesome to me. I appreciate the fact that he chose a random planet and did not do a scripted demo. It shows that he really cares about the game and he doesn't want to overhype or deceive the audience. This is a game I will be getting. I may actually pre-order it.

After listening to this whole interview, Sean is what every game designer should do, makes games that they like and will be liked by everyone, period. Non of this super marketing ad releases over TV, internet, social media, ect. Just sit down make the best game you can possibly make, and when it's done it's done, don't rush it just to please the consumer and to keep up with the other top name games such as CoD, Halo, GTA. I really hope then this game can bring Hello Games up to level of other companies like Activision, Bungie, Rockstar, because I know once they're up there, they will easily rule over everyone.

According to the New Yorker's article "World Without End", the devs "are building their universe by establishing its laws of nature, rather than hand-crafting its details [so] much about it remains unknown, even to them."
Apparently, they set up natural rules (mathematical algorithms determine factors like the age and arrangement of stars) and create possible elements and features for each planet (they create different forms of life and terrain that can be found) and just let the computers build the planets en masse from there...

It's true. I never really do say anything mean or fucked up about anyone or anything, but the thing is that the plague of people who get somehow offended by my comments make me seem like a villain while they themselves spew vile and disgusting comments about me and my opinions. At the same time I still get a kick out of it all cause I know (as evil as it sounds) that they are rather primitive in a sense. Not like I'm someone who thinks they're superior or anything, but I do feel like most of the time I'm not dealing with the brightest bulbs in the bunch. That said, I'm usually grinning when I know someone is just flat out full of themselves. So yes, I do have a shit eating grin most of the time but it's for a reason.

im a little impatient for a release date but i understand why it's not been announced and that they have a HUGE amount of stuff on there plate they wanna focus on and be sure of first so i'll wait, besides no one has ever made a game like this before and that a dev team of like 10 is tackling this monster is freaking NUTS so good on them they have my support! ;)
This interview was incredibly humble on his behalf. Here's to hoping that years after this game's success that he'll think back to these words, and continue to live up to those standards of quality, before empty promises.
Honestly, if they released the game now and it only had the features that they've demonstrated (ship building, space battles, exploration) I would probably buy it and spend 50+ hours on it at the very least. It touches on one of my favorite parts of Minecraft, random exploring to see what the computer has cooked up. It's awesome that we can visit worlds that no one else has ever seen and no one else will ever see, not even the developers, because of the scope.
The scope of this game is jaw dropping, even if it were to be a flop, I'd get it just for how ambitious his project is.
I mean, their team is making a universe of such vast variation they make God himself look like a slacker, taking an indefinite break after only 6 days into the job.
My best hopes for this game and its team.
I finally understand what this game is. It's not a game where you do this and do that. It's a universe with events taking place. It's your choice to take part in those events. You are dropped into a world and not told a thing. It's instead your job to, I guess, live in the world and get into some interesting situations while progressing. I finally understand. I am looking forward to this.

Murray has a lot of charisma. It's rare that you buy a game and simultaneously actually feel happy with where and who your money is going to. I'd be more than willing to support these developers, to see what else they can manage to craft in the future and to see them through to bigger and better things. Besides that, if this game is what they claim it is, then they simply outright deserve it.
What is there to actually do in this game? I'm very interested in it, but i'm worried that there's nothing to do but fly around and make cooler ships.

I am still just as excited for this game, but I am kinda mad at them about this whole release date thing. I realize that the game needs to be the best it can be and I admire there dedication to making a quality product and not rushing to get it out the door just for the money. However, if they didn't know when it would be ready to go, then why come to E3? They promised to tell us when it was coming out, so I assumed that's why they came to this event, but in actuality, they decided to go ahead and keep it under the table until it's ready. GREAT, but don't keep showing up at events and showing more and more footage of the game when you know that you aren't ready to tell people even when you intend on releasing it. It's like a constant tease for the fans because they SAID they would be giving us a release date. They decided against it because it would anger fans if they miss the deadline, but telling us over and over that it is coming soon and showing more and more of it just to say "We don't want to piss you off so we're not telling you WHEN it'll be here" DOES piss off the fans. Either stick to your word or just keep the game off the net until you're done with it. The fan base is already here. Stop waving it in our faces and getting us excited just to trash us again and again.

ChaoticRift I know he didn't MEAN to disappoint. Just he said his reason (or one of them) for not telling us was because he doesn't want to upset the fans if they don't make the fans should they not make that deadline, as if going back on their word hasn't upset the fans enough. I trust that they are working hard and they everything will turn out fine, I've just been waiting so long for a smidge of hope for all of this, and I was way too excited for E3 this year for this game ONLY. Just to leave having really nothing more than last year feels really disappointing. I'm glad they'll be sharing more with us tomorrow morning though. I'm excited for this.

The gist of him not wanting to announce a release date is because he doesn't want a deadline forcing him and his team to rush a piece of crap game. *Cough *Cough... Destiny, ESO (before they fixed it), Watch Dogs, etc. For this I am even more hyped for when they will release the game as opposed to hopping it comes out soon.

I really like how different this game is. I love shooting people but that gets boring. Sometimes I just want to relax and visit other planets. I'm glad this game exists so I can just do that.
This game looks AMAZING! Please don't limit it to only Playstation or only Xbox or only PC. Try to get it on as many different consoles as possible! You're sales will skyrocket, and your costs will be dwarfed in comparison to the money you make!

schizer Yep, all planets shown in NMS videos / gameplay have been the same super tiny size. :( Their whole surface seems to be about the size of bigger town.
