my guy I would like to say you are ON IT!! I had already subscribed to you but typed in "melodies definition" and was watching some random vid that didn't fully help me grasp the concept and I look slight right and see that this video is up next .... freakin stoked
Ive only watched a few of your vids, and I can already tell your lessons will be very helpful. I am familiar with music theory but it is so hard to retain the info because its so convoluted. Your explanations are straight forward and easy to remember. Thank you.
We are all able to invent melodies together with their dynamics. No instrument is needed, we can use our natural instruments. One is the voice, the other one is a sort of high-pitched flute we play by whistling. I believe it is easier for everyone to make her own melodies this way, but it has a downside: if you then want to play the same melody on an instrument you have to go and find out the notes (what keys to press). At first it may be frustrating and timeconsuming, until you develop a bit of musical ear. You do not have to be able to find out the exact note you are whistling at the first attempt. It suffices, to speed up the process to just know whether this note is higher or lower in pitch than the previous one, and that it's quite an easy ability to master. Except for very near notes, after a bit of practice you will be able to almost always guess right and so you will at least know whether the next note is on the left or right hand side of the keyboard, thus cutting the possibilities in half. Once you have found the first few notes, spanning one or a few octaves, notes repeat and you will proceed quickly. That makes up the scale for your song. It may be a non-diatonic one, but who cares? Remember also that music is not set in stone: for any song, there are an uncountable number of variations you can make, either in melody, rythm, chords or both. There is a lot of possibilities for different interpretations and that's a good thing. Even if it is your own song, you will not want to play it always the same way. That's what makes music an art. Because you can make it yours. Whatever you like is good and you enjoy creating and changing.
Wow I just made a sweet melody in garage band and you just taught me a little about why my mind liked the sounds I was putting together and didnt like some lol awsome
Unique and simple explanation, thank you a lot! It's so different from what I've heard about scales and thinking in step progressions so far. Can't wait to apply this shift in thinking to some melodic experiments :)
you said that "we are going to build the A natural minor scale which is composed of all white notes". I was wondering if that's the same for other notes. For example if you started with b or g and only used the white notes would that be called b natural minor scale or g natural minor scale?
Hi bro i am getting a litlle confusion here on how to form chords. when you explained about music theory on the video you also counted all notes blacks and whites while using minor chord code and wheh you explained about chords progression. you only counted white notes only and in minor cord too. you did not include the black notes. can that be done in our cords mathmetics?
How do you get these different instruments in your piano roll? One video you got a grand piano and the next you got some sort of xylophone. How can I get them. Any help? I'm trying to familiarize myself, sorry for the annoyance. Is it like the Kit's I have to download off the internet where instead i download the instrument preset?
Hey game, could you do a video on how to make your beats look more professional... For example if you go to my page and look at the beats, the thumbnails arent really attention grabbing. Could you show us what programs to use and what not. Nice vid also
+Down The Rabbit Hole Good question! I guess you ment 0-4-7 and 0-2-5. We conventionally start numbering keys at 0 not 1. 0-2-5 is also a chord, somewhat dissonant because 0-2 (0-1-2) is a 2 semitone interval (we call it a major second, but that's just a 1 semitone interval), so the 0 and 2 notes are quite near. 1-2 will be even nearer, just 1 semitone apart and it's the sharpest dissonance. Every two or more combination of notes is a chord and you can use whatever is appropriate and sounds good in your song. The purpose of chord theory is just to find out the rules for constructing some consonant chords of various common characters (major or happy, minor or sad, power chord or neutral, 7th or instable, etc). Theory will then give you some indication of how to find out an appropriate chord sequence for a melody, by restricting the very broad choice of chords you would have if you define a chord simply to be any combination of notes. But the definition of consonance is qualitative, it's not a scientifically or mathematically precise one. As a consequence no theory can account for all types of music that sounds good. And what sounds good can be subjective and a cultural fact. Some people can't stand metal music, some not even rock music. Others love it. Think of music theory just like a body of rules for Western music. You may like them or not. Sometimes you will be happy sticking to the rules, other times you may want to break them. They do not have to be considered mandatory. When appropriate you may want to use dissonances along with consonances, just like a painter uses lights and shadows. It's an art...

Rhythm is just repeated melodies, I think
