When you say it looks as though you didn’t get much done I’m just trying to figure out who would possibly say that you didn’t get much done? And if someone did say that then they have obviously never embarked on an endeavor such as this. The fact that you are doing this single-handedly is just gobsmacking.
You should be really proud of yourself Dan - just a shame you can’t get an apprentice to help you out. Hope you are eating enough food to keep your strength up xx ps: u r very easy on the eye 😜
Dan, you got more work done in a day than most, and your work is physically challenging. Then, you go home and edit and post. We all know how hard you work.
Oh yeah, that will be something alright. Perfect collab down the line. I'm assuming thr stylish one will be a much later project. In the meantime he'll need that proper scaffoloding from his local company friends he brought out yesterday, and perhaps a staircase thats simply sturdy and practical during the heavy building. Which Amoury might be helpfull with as well I suppose! Getting that tarp on will be a rral milestone! 🙌
Danny boy, Scott and I are here in the ER after 24 hours of a heart attack scare. And we are so looking forward to watching your video here in the hospital bed with the news that no permanent heart damage was done to his heart! We will relish your video especially today! Also, we have been so proud of you. So proud. Such progress and hardwork. We can't believe how much you have done in such a short time. We look forward to the videos every day!❤
Incredible, Dan! The only gentlemen I ever knew that worked as hard as you, was my Dad! Look at what you have done in 9 days!!! Be safe! Thank you, for sharing your journey with all of us!
Oh, Dan. Why your vlogs have to be so short. They are quickly becoming my favourites. Can not wait to watch them. Happy with every passage being cleaned, with every bit of mortar being placed, with every beam inserted. You are amazing! 😍👍
My Dad was a contracter and watching you reminds me of him. He renovated an 18 room house and we thought the main ingredient in our food was plaster dust. The smell of sawing wood brings back fond memories. I watched him build a house from scratch. Also you inspire me to work on my own house. Please be careful. Also i like how you talk like a friend. Your videos are also very well done. I like how we get to travel along your journey. Keep up the good work!
You are not only a very good builder, a very hard worker, but also a very good editor. Love watching your video's! Love seeing the progress and hope you will find someone to do it with. That would be so much better an for me as a viewer comforting; sometimes you do dangerous things and I worry about you.
Dan I think many of us thought you were perhaps crazy to buy such a dilapidated château. However, you've proved that with sheer old fashioned hard work, you can achieve a DREAM. You have a special gift of being able to "picture" in your head the end results. Every day you set yourself a goal. I think this is the key to your success. ONE ROOM AT A TIME. Watching the mountain of rubble disappear - proves if you have a plan, and work methodically - anything is possible. I've never been interested in following anybody on a daily basis. However I'm hooked on your daily achievements. I am so looking forward to seeing the roof go on. Your first dinner party. The driveway is already looking stunning. Entering the magestic wrought iron gates -- round a corner and the château appears framed by trees. Pure magic❤
You must be knackered Dan the man going up and down the ladders bringing in the ,supplies that you need. It makes me tired watching you. You are just brilliant man with stamina. It's all coming together Dan ❤ loved watching see yer tomorrow 😊x
I admire your never ending enthusiasm and "Get Up And Get Going" approach. Highly admirable. I don't know how I could help you from up here in the cold Norse country? You have a fair few years to go to completion, but once you get there, you'll be the "Lord of the Manor" in your own château that you (re-)built yourself. Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪.
Every day I have my moment of thinking "wonder what dan has gotten up to today?" And look forward to watching your video to find out. Thank you so much for doing the daily's...they truly mean so much to so many ❤️
Dan, I must confess early on when I first saw your chateau I thought NO WAY that can be saved. But now I’ve every confidence. You’re a hard worker inching toward your dream and I’m very much enjoying watching the progress every step of the way. Crack on, my friend.
I don't know why, but it's incredibly satisfying to watch you wiggle those stumps of burnt-out timbers out of those notches. That's my favorite part :)
Dan, your idea of "not getting much done" runs circles around most people's busiest days! Great vlogs. I get so excited each day waiting for the next one.
My brain did a double take reading this comment. A French name for someone watching at 8am Saturday? It's only 1.20am Saturday in Ireland. Clearly, you are far ahead of us, like maybe New Zealand. Lol
Seriously, every single day is way more exciting than the next and even then I'm still finding myself rewatching the same days video over and over and over again just waiting for the next day because I'm loving all the progress so much!
I've been renovating my childhood home and my grandfather's house next door 😅. Your videos are helping me push through. I thought my task was impossible. You are an inspiration Dan. Your dedication and hard work will pay off in the end. Thank you for the videos! Now get yourself some help out there! 😂
Great progress! Once those upper floors are finished to the point people can stay there, it will feel like you're living in a tree house with those magnificent views of the tree tops. You gave us a sneak peek of those views the other day. Very inspiring. That vision of the finished Chateau alone is enough to keep you going. It's all coming together.
Dan, you have thousands of people from around the world (Australia for me) cheering you on, sometimes on the edge of our seats hoping you don’t get hurt. I always look forward to your videos popping up.
Loving watching you resurrect this old dame! Your progress is amazing, especially when you consider you are doing this almost single handed. I look forward to each days videos, no matter their length, it allows me to almost feel like I'm there watching instead of on the other side of the globe. Bonne chance!
I think it is absolutely amazing that you have accomplished so much, mostly by yourself. When I first saw the ruins, I thought no way, but now believe you can do it.
I don't usually comment but... You are amazing... It is a one man orchestra, really, and so very impressive. Also saving this gorgeous castle in a time where old buildings are being destroyed to build things that won't last... I bow to you... Keep the great work and don't loose spirit...
I love the daily play on your title "Slog, Log, Bog" - it's not lost on me 😝. I'm amazed daily by the amount of work you are able to complete all by yourself and it has to be a slog without an extra body! You must be driven is all I can figure. Please keep yourself safe. Love your channel!
If you can't find a safe connection point, you might need to add something in. Like a temporary structure made out of wood. Not ideal, but your primary goal is getting the place weather-tight so you can do more extensive work inside.
Yes - build an upside down U from sturdy timbers and wedge it into place in the two doorways (bathroom and bedroom on the other side) so it can't fall over. The load is supported by the walls of the 1st floor then.
@Joan Arc I'm sure he could get help if needed but I feel he is a man who likes his own complany..........volunteers would have to be fed or housed....others would need payment.......and he talks to us about his day......he does seem very happy.....
It is all your fault. I watch you put render walls and fix things so I spent all day on a wall outside and taught myself how to repair the render. You do inspire a lot of us to take on projects we may not have thought we could do. Love watching your progress.
My goodness Dan, just going up and down all those levels looks tiring enough, without all the heavy hauling and carpentry on top! You're doing an amazing job. Loving your vids too. Keep at it. 👍
I agree with the comment about using screws for the hangers. Unless specified, screws should never be used for structural hangers. Building code in Canada is hanger nails or spikes. I would go with 3 1/2 spikes as that floor system is a very critical load bearing area.
Such a skilled craftsman that has a great way of communicating without prattling on about nothing like most TH-camrs these days. Keep up the great work
Those brackets @0:13 are supposed to support a floor. A few self tapping screws will not hold up in a few years. Through bolts with load spreading washers would be more suitable. In construction, a safety margin of x50 is not uncommon.
Always the reminder that Nature is at your doorstep with seedlings growing from cracks in bricks waiting to rebuild her realm...time for her to relinquish and share that view with you...!
In the wee hrs of this morning I was rewatching some Dan & family videos. And I came across the one where they all as a family visited the Chateau ruins for the first time. That my friends was only 2 years ago. A skinny Dan struggling with the plaster board sheets in his kitchen. To now where he manhandles god knows how heavy those rafters are. And the muscle tone. Quiet pleasing to the eye🥳 😁👍🏻
DANGER DANGER Will Robinson!! Do you know about the shearing factor of the screws that you’re using for the floor joist hangers!!!! By code, and for safety, only nails should be used!!!

Dan, you got more work done in a day than most, and your work is physically challenging. Then, you go home and edit and post. We all know how hard you work.
The daily vlog, the daily slog, the daily bog..... I love it!
Yeah, I caught that too. Pretty creative.
The daily workout
Dan I never saw you that happy! You are in love with the château😉
We all are in ❤ with the chateau
The top will be pretty dangerous! I see loose bricks everywhere! Wear your hardtop please! Good progress Dan.
So cool!!! Gotta say-you’re pretty gracious with the number of backseat Chateau restorers a channel inspires!
I know I'm jumping the gun but I can't help thinking what a fantastic staircase Amaury could build for you!

I like short everyday vs longer once a week.
You are accomplishing so much single handedly! Good for you, Dan!
I'm watching the subscriber count go up 1 or 2 thousand per day. Well-deserved, as this is epic!

Congratulations Dan, another Chateau 'landmark,' of success. Floor by floor up you go to the top and tarpaulin! 🎉🎉🎉👏👏👏❣️
Maybe put in a staircase? Just for now an easy one so its easier to bring stuff up Dan
@Joan Arc Not really that expensive. Just some stringers and some boards on top to act as stairs. Just the bare minimum not the fancy finished stairs.
I think you just need to put in some scaffolding with stairs, you have to get scaffolding anyway!
He's ordered scaffolding with stairs for that. 😊
In Germany you can buy ready to use temporary construction staircases...
He seems to be doing great as is!
Dan, just stay positive it will all work out in the end ! You should not have given Calvin back his passport ... he would be rather handy right now !

Awesome choice of music for the last bit of the video Dan! Keep the good work up. Bit by bit you will get there.
I love the daily vlog/slog/bog titles 😂😂
I'd not be using screws in the joist hangers unless structurally rated ones. Have a read up as normal screws don't have the shear strength of nails
