Our small town of Valley Center became part of the ripple effect that a drunk driver causes. So many knew Kiera and her family, as well as CHP Officer Mark Latulippe, who was often patrolling traffic at our schools. Our teachers and her fellow students, as well as many others in our small town, were devastated when we got the news. We were so worried about Kiera and were so thankful that Mark was able to step in and take Kiera into his family. We have been so proud of how Kiera has carried herself through all this tragedy. It was so heartwarming, but also a tear-jerker, to hear her sing. Such a beautiful thing after all she's been through. VC STRONG. We love you Latulippe family.

Mark and Kiera, my name is Andrew Norolahi and I attended the same Economics department with both Nancy and Scott at CSUSM. It was a small tight net group and we were very close friends. This is where they met and got married, I was at their wedding and last had dinner when Nancy was close to giving birth to Jackson. Kiera your parents were smart, incredible people with so much love and kindness to offer the world. I just found out about this incredible loss... Mark, please feel free to look me up and call on me if my family and I can be of any help. This video is an amazing way to have their memory be a lesson to all those who may want to risk lives (their and others) because they are too ignorant to abstain or call for a ride. God bless you and your family.

Did you know about Earth when you were in your mum’s womb?
There’s a cup because someone made it.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
For god so loved the world that he gave his only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

My dad is a retired CHP Sergeant. He arrested a young man who later spent time in prison. He promised that he would look after his mother while her son was serving time. Dad took money out of his pocket to buy her food. He would stop by to make sure that she was okay (she lived in South Central LA). This is the CHP that I know and respect. Thank you for sharing this video. Be safe out there, everyone. SW Michigan.

Both my sons totally remember a similar presentation at their school where a man killed his best friend while driving drunk. As rough as it is to tell the story over and over, you are making a difference. Neither of my sons ever drink and drive. Thank you.

I just lost a coworker in DUI/stolen vehicle/high speed crash. Saturday 08292020-1158 hours she got struck. She simply went to get some errands, and go home, but she never made it back home because of somebody’s negligence... the driver of that stolen vehicle fled from the scene and after few hours he got arrested. This incident also was on the news. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONT DRINK/DRUG/MEDICATION OR WHATEVER YOU NAME IT... and drive. You don’t kill yourself by drinking, but you will destroy or murder other Innocent people like this young lady or my co-worker. PLEASE THIBK TWICE AND MAKE A CONSCIENCE DECISION.

What a truly touching story. God Bless Officer Latulippe for taking this child in and raising her. Truly an awesome human being. Please stay safe out there patrolling California’s highways and keeping other people safe from drunk drivers like this. I feel sorry for anyone that is driving drunk that gets pulled over by you. But, it is a choice, and a bad one at that. They must be held accountable. I am a commercial truck driver and I see people driving intoxicated from time to time during my travels. I have taken down plate numbers and called 911 to report them more times than I can count. Hopefully I helped to prevent a tragedy like this one at least once. On a side note, I have been to Valley Center a few times. I absolutely loved it there, it is a beautiful place to live. I hope that Kiera makes many great memories living with you and your family. You sir, are an outstanding human being.

    Outstanding film!
I'm a CBS News camera person. And, I've spent over 25 years covering everything from non-profit doll shows to horrific car accidents ( including interviewing family members similar to Kiera and Officer Mark Latulippe who have lost family to fatal car accidents ). I STRONGLY recommend everyone take the time and absorb this important documentary. Driving is a VERY serious business and NO ONE should take it lightly. One mistake can lead a person down a lifetime of regret ( I've interviewed too many people who wish they could take back their DUI choices-No joke ). So, don't drink and drive, don't text and ( most important ) pay attention to others around us so we can all lead honorable lives.

When I was 13 years old my cousin Scott and I had a paper route in Glendora CA. On the morning of Scott's 14th bday he rode along his route with excitement for all the fun things my aunt and uncle had planned for him. Approximately one block from his home he was struck and killed by a drunk driver. The man who killed him had been drinking all night and was heading home to take his son fishing. My family has never and will never heal. This video is a true fact that it can happen to anyone....God Bless this young lady for her loss, I hope she can find healing through the strength of her uncle.

I spent nearly 30 years with CHP, 24 of those working graveyard shift arresting thousands for driving under the influence. Many of those for murder (yes, you can get a murder conviction for DUI causing death). These tragic stories are still way to common. Godspeed to the officers who followed in my footsteps. • @Carterthielftw_
      @Carterthielftw_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

18 years is no joke, that's the equivalent of your entire childhood spent in a concrete box. I don't think the death penalty is appropriate for DUI though because that is usually reserved for mass shootings. Murder is defined as premeditated killing of a human, so it's tough to charge someone who received a DUI for that

  • @piercehawke8021

This is brutally sad... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE think about this story before you make the decision to drive under the influence. The saddest part is that the slimy piece of $hit only got 18 years.

As a property manager I always put in the bulletin during the Holidays "Don't drink and drive!" flyers. I get so mad when people post "checkpoints on so and so" on they're social medias. Like what if that driver hurts someone else's or even your loved one because he or she avoided the checkpoint thanks to you.

18 years is too lenient a sentence, in my opinion...

So so sad. My heart goes out to Kiera, and the heroes who have to deal with these selfish scumbags on a daily basis. God bless you and keep you Kiera, and all the heroes, and anybody else affected by the actions of these selfish, mindless dui assholes.

Killing someone while DUI should automatically result in a MURDER charge. No excuses, no three strikes, no mitigating circumstances. People caught DUI the first time should lose their license PERMANENTLY!

The definition of "muder" means a premeditated attack. Unless we change the definition of murder it will be difficult to charge people for it. Manslaughter charges are no joke, and while people are saying 18 years is lax, that is your entire childhood locked up in a concrete building.

Fatal crash in Lodi: Oct. 22, 2013 Lodi California was the witness of a devastating tragedy that ended with a whole entire family pregnant mom with unborn child husband and three kids. only one child survived the tragedy. All because of a drunk driving person who made a wrong choice that say.
