I have 2 very large curves and am going in on june 5th. One curve is 74.4 and the other is 69.3, i am honestly a little scared but hearing all these stories makes me feel better. I wish anyone reading this the best.

im 14 and had a 66 degree curve, doctor newton did my surgery january 5th 2022 i feel great! highly recommend

I don't understand why doctors wait so long to do a follow up. It's known that it is during the growth spurt that the curves develop. If her curve was actually around 23 they should have got her in a brace. The higher the degree of curve the harder it is to hold the curve in place. BTW Bracing for scoliosis is NOT to straighten the curves. It is ONLY to try and slow or stop the progression of the curve. I've heard a number stories about curves progressing to the high 40's and even into the 50's or higher. Many times it is because the person has not been followed frequently enough or they have not been compliant with the wearing of the brace. The larger the curve gets the correction has to be done with surgery and sometimes is not able to completely correct the curve. Also the bigger the surgery (larger curve) often times means a tougher recovery from the surgery. Disclaimer: the comments are not that of a scoliosis expert but a person who has seen a lot of stories about scoliosis.
My son was just diagnosed with scoliosis. He’s 12. Going next week to get scoliosis series X-rays done.
My son is 12 as well and just got diagnosed with scoliosis already did the scoliosis series xrays but now they need a MRI 52 degrees curvature I know they are talking surgery but I’m a little worried.
My daughter is 13. We just found out she already has a 54 degree. I’m so scared for her.

The first week after surgery is tough.I had a thoracic curve of 57 degrees and I had a spinal fusion with 14 screws and 2 rods.I recall being so worried in the actual anaesthetic room and waking suddenly in a room with many beeping machines.I was then taken to my actual orthopaedic ward and there I felt nothing.I lay on my back for 12 hours because I couldn’t shift yet.Being so under drugs and pain meds,I felt numb everywhere but also stiff.I had a greater feeling of stiffness and discomfort rather than pain.this was on the day and night of the surgery.Then on the first day,I was exchanged to a much smaller dose but I controlled how often I got it by a button.At this time the physio therapist came and I couldn’t sit up without support.Sitting even in a normal chair for the first 1 week felt sore and numb and it felt like an insanely sore muscle pain after workout down your back.But by this time I was already shifting positions with little to no help in bed and controlling a lot more.By day 4 I was walking laps around the ward and I was reduced to medication taken by mouth and it was a relief since my two bigger problems rather than the pain itself was the pain from the canulas and the antibiotics which left 5-6cm bruises down my arms and being severely blocked in my bowels.I was on the highest dose of laxatives and it took about 1.5 weeks to get back to normal and it was immense cramping and pain.It hurt more than the actual surgery itself.At this point I was sitting 35 mins a day and walking 2 laps around the ward.My physio took me to do the stairs which I felt at ease to do.Honestly getting up straight away from a position in bed to a sitting position felt dizzy and it spun round but you slowly readjust and now I am 2 weeks post op and I walk 1 km max and get around the house myself.I was discharged with pain meds but never drank the very strong ones,only ever paracetamol and ibuprofen but I have not drank any for the past 1 week and pain is now down to a minimum.My wound was sealed with skin glue which is slowly peeling off but the area where I had the biggest rib prominence and curve is numb and if pressed or tapped gets painful but on its own I am able to sit for 2 hours and have returned to small hobbies such as playing my violin and school work but have not been cleared to get back to school yet.Hope this helps stay strong xxx

i’m getting surgery in a few months and i’m just a little nervous.
If anyone here has scoliosis please please do physio like the Scroth method if mild or Clear method if severe FIRST. If not, consider surgeries like VBT and apifix which PRESERVE flexibility, never ever get a fusion unless you've tried EVERYTHING else. Never just "watch and wait" either. I was 13 when I got the surgery and now 10 years later my spine is degenerating above and below the fusion, aka adjacent segment disease I was not told about. I feel robbed. Your spine is built for MOVEMENT not to be fused. Unlike other procedures scoliosis fusions are currently NOT REVERSIBLE. Those surgeons will keep fusing until theyre no longer allowed to. The traditional old way is not always the best way for everyone.
I’m crying coz i too have scoliosis 😭😭😭😭 last yr it was 8 degree and now 18😭😭 i feel so much pain nd worried what if it increase next year😭😭😭😭😭 o god plz help me😭😭😭😭😭😭
Me too ive had scoliosis and recently i got into a bad accident and made it all worse ive had so much going on these past few months i dont know if ill ever be the same anymore but im trying and i cant lose faith niether should you everything will be ok just pray with all your heart

@@antarpreetkaursran3011 same im not going to lie i didnt used to pray much all tho i talked to God most days but yes never went to church unless i really needed something and now i pray everyday i even started reading the bible its interesting and makes me wanna change for my health and to be a better person this past year was hell for me and everyone i hope this next is better

@@antarpreetkaursran3011 yeah i understand so do i sometimes even tho i know the answer not taking care of myself but yes just keep praying many say to pray and believe in Jesus but its not just believing in him but also accepting him as our savior hes our ultimate Dr can cure anything no matter how hard it is... great proof is my sis she had 4 major heart surgeries that almost cost her life but shes here and well thanks to Drs and Jesus
I'm in my 50s already, is surgery still a option for me?
Of course its a option, but it will be harder for the surgeons to operates you, because of your age, and you may not get the best result. But if you experience pain, i would recommend a back brace to keep your spine in the same spot.

I'm 51and will be 52 when I have my spine surgery. I have had scoliosis my whole life. I have a dish that was only half forked. When I was 14 I had to wear a bulky back brace 23/7, for 3 years. That did help slow down the growth process of my curve. I have come to a point in my like where I can't take the pain anymore. My kids are grown, it's time I get something done because it's only going to get worse if I don't do something.

Exactly, this vid is just pure advertisement. You should check somewhere else for reviews like pubmed long term follow up how such a surgery like this actually goes in a patient's life. I believe the problems come on later on in midlife

0:38 This disturbs me about these doctors so much. He just told her to "watch and wait dOnt wOrRy" which is the most bullshit advice ever as so many scoliosis cases get worse. As SOON as you notice a curvature, be it 10, 20 or 30 degree curves physio needs to be done asap to at least try to stop it. (See Scroth or Clear method) Then a few years later she goes back to the surgeon coz her curve's gotten a lot worse and he banks big bucks for performing the surgery. 😒 Just thought I'd raise some awareness as I regret my surgery. 💔

Yeah, but how addicted to pain pills are you now? Everyone I know that had this surgery is now an addict. Are you clean of pills?
My daughter had the surgery at age 12. She had a 65 degree S curve. She was only on pain meds for 3 weeks. She's 24 now and doing great.
Why does she talk like that?!?
