For something different, in today's video I'm going back into the archives and reacting to my own bodybuilding forum posts from nearly 20 years ago when I myself was a bodybuilding beginner/gym newbie. As a gym beginner there were a lot of things I got wrong and many silly things I did throughout the initial stages of my fitness journey and it's quite entertaining to look back on it now. If you yourself are still a novice lifter then keep in mind that every advanced lifter out there started off as a bodybuilding beginner themselves and that it takes time to learn the ropes when it comes to building muscle, losing fat and gaining strength. Hope you find this video enjoyable. Related tags: muscle building beginner, gym newbies guide, beginner bodybuilding.

i started at 2014 July, thanks to my English and channels like you. The first one was you and it was a very very very lucky coincidence, pointed me to the right resources that don't contradict you. Just learned truth from the begginning. Second was a funny kid called alphadestiny, third one kinobody. Omarisuf..., jason blahino list goes on :D im not saying they are %100 true but they were guys saying the main truth. Just learned, enough volume/ frequency/intensity /calories/recovery = gains. Not wasted my time. At that time in my country (Turkey) there isnt any youtubers know anything. Just juiceheads all over the place in gyms and skinny kids jumping on sustanon. Holy shit even juiceheads on english forums was looking for our gear here :D TURKISH SUSTANON was a phenomenon at that time :D Some juice gurus coming to turkey buying gear from our pharmacies and going back selling stuff . Gear was a thing you can buy without a prescription here. Very before that ephedrine was a 50 kuruş (0,060 dolars) its high quality rightn dosage stuff audited by our goverment. So they know its far far far better than underground labs garbage. Know shitloads ofstupit kids collapsed their androgenic hormones and lost all their gains after their stupit cycles stupit trainings. They didnt even know how to train. holy shit. May be you saved me from juice.

My god I've been, for the last 3 years, trying to tell people exactly this.
My father used to bodybuild back in the 90s and was quite successfull with his gains. For protein he would drink raw eggs immediately, followed by a milkshake (more towards a smoothie than an actual milkshake) because he didn't like the taste of raw eggs.
Now my father didn't really know or care too much about calories, but since he had a very hard busy job (alongside amazing genetics), I doubt the extra (300/400) calories made too big of a negative impact.
This essentially made my mother keen on feeding me milkshakes to get gains when I started working out. I really appreciate how willing she was to make a milkshake for me every day, however I told her that the milkshake isn't what made my father jacked, it was the protein and weight training. She more or less accepted it but it took some time for her to completely understand that milkshakes aren't the key.
Sorry for the long ass essay, just got a huge wave of nostalgia from what you were saying!

My knowledge and methodologies are much better now than when I was younger - which becomes more important as you age and to set realistic goals.
Anyways, keep up the great content. You and Scott Herman are the only TH-cam fitness people I watch - your both honest, down to earth, and 100% natural (a rarity for online influencers and content). It would be great to see you two do a video collaboration.

    This is a great video.
We're used to see physique transformations, but what about a mentality transformation?
I really think it can give many of us perspective on what to expect during a long journey of dedication to fitness.

Great video and insights Sean. I started lifting at the age of 16.....in 1981. Still going now at 56. While my goal was never to compete, I've never stopped learning and seeking out more knowledge. I feel I'm training better now than I was in my 20s.

You shouldn't feel embarrassed at all man, at least you had a solid idea of what you were doing. You sound pretty smart for a 15 year old in those notes. You should see my notes from when I was younger and started working out to try and lose fat. A few of them makes me laugh, most make me cringe because I was just so incredible clueless, and some of them honestly makes me wanna cry because of the absolute abuse I put myself through. I just read them yesterday and at one point I crash dieted so hard I started losing hair when combing myself. Reading that just made me so sad. Talk about pathetic, that you're so desperate for quick "easy" fix that you're willing to damage yourself to that level just to lose weight. And I didn't even have that much weight to lose, I wasn't even a "fat guy" I was literally only a few kg to heavy.

Great self-reflection on your younger self 🤘 I personally don't believe in the "anabolic window" or a need to eat every 2 hours... but I'm always so hungry, so I end up eating a meal or snack every 2-4 hours. I love eating food 🍗
