Good video. There is a less expensive and more comfortable way without having to deal with city bus & the sketchy downtown Santa Fe station. From SAN, take the free Airport bus (Airport Flyer) to Old Town Transit center. Hop on the San Ysidro trolley with a one-way ticket for $2.50 and get off at the border to walk across. You save half the cost and get to enjoy a more comfortable trip.
I am traveling Today. I am waiting for my connecting flight in Salt Lake City. Its good that I watched your video right now. Gonna save 55 bucks. Thanks mate!
I remember you used to be able to walk into Tijuana without being stopped. It's been a while since I've crossed but the real pain is coming back into the U.S. It could be a short line, or you could be waiting for hours. This is the reason I don't visit much.
You can also take the rental car shuttle and ask the driver to drop you off at the trolley station. The rental car shuttle itself is free. I believe they drop you off at Middletown Station from where you can get the Blue line to San Ysidro. You can also take a bus from San Diego Santa Fe Depot all the way down to Otay Mesa Transit Center if your part of town is that side. This also works if you want to avoid the $18 fee to cross at CBX if you are going to the airport. You just cross over at Otay Mesa and Uber over to the airport for $5 from Blvd de Bellas Artes.
There’s also a new CBX Bridge built in Tijuana Airport in Otay Mesa, California which allows you to access and connect to Tijuana Airport from San Diego International Airport for flights to different areas of Mexico directly from the United States. Air fares are cheaper for flights to different areas of Mexico from the United States than if you use SAN or LAX, since flights from TIJ are considered Domestic flights within Mexico.
Thank you so much for sharing this amazing and helpful information. Can you share how to travel back to San Diego airport from otay or San Isidro on a Sunday afternoon?
This trip could can also be used to go to the Otay Border crossing. Instead of taking the trolley from Downtown. You take the rapid bus 225 from the Santa Fe Depot bus stop.
This is the first video I have seen were this trip was done with the Pronto card. There's another video were this other guy did the same trip. He did it with the Compass card they stopped using.
The Amtrak Pacific Surfliner takes you to LA or San Liuis Obispo. The Coast Starlight takes you up the coast all the way to Seattle, but it originates in LA, not San Diego.
How about a video on an inexpensive way to get from the San Diego airport to the CBX crossing to access the Tijuana airport. A couple of years ago, the shuttle between those two points wasn't very reliable.
@@ZorroTravelsTheWorld Show us the hacks. This is why I don't bother to visit TJ. The only hack I know is cut in line, but it someone notices you, it could be a big fight.
I would like to know what option is more practical for a family traveling (i.e. with children and baggage)? Likewise, have you crossed with a rental car?
@@cindeeflores7349 you can cross with your family and a car. I would recommend looking into getting a medical pass. I’m pretty sure you can get one with a simple dental visit. Reach out to them prior.
Great video, props👏🏽 I didn’t know there was a bus from SAN to downtown. I usually take the shuttle bus to the car rental building & walk from there to trolley Washington station. If you don’t mind, how much is your rent at NC condos? I’m planning to move there in the next couples month.
How do you cross back to SD side when on foot? That normal line is 3 hours long sometimes. I recommend getting a Global Entry card so you can skip it in the Sentri walking lane. Its also good to drive across back into US in the Sentri car lane.
Good accurate info. I wish there was some sort of express service to the border from downtown but still I use the trolley all the time. Do you have residency in Mexico? I know you don't really need it in TJ.
Thank you 🙏🏽 I would say the express way is Uber… but that’s where the cost comes in. This is the $5 way vs the $50+ way for Uber. I’m sure I can help arrange private drivers for a few hundred plus also if that’s what you’re into.. Private black on black SUV I’m sure would do it too
Okay this was great information! I just did it with my girlfriend. To get to Tijuana BUT!!!… to get back is a different story! We tried to get back around noon and it’s a 3.5 to 4.0 wait to get walk back through to the U.S. I have global entry but my girlfriend did not. Don’t try to cut the line with someone that doesn’t have Global entry because it will NOT work!!!! Soooo…. Great time but apparently no avoiding this. OH!!!… and if you go to the San Ysidro border crossing you will be approached by Taxi companies that will tell they will get you across quickly!!!! It is a SCAM!!!! They will only take you to another crossing 5 minutes away with a line just as long!!! If you do this…DO NOT PAY more than $10 each!!!!!Yeah learn from use because we got scammed!🤬🤬🤬
Very helpful. Going to Guerrero Negro in Feb by bus. Are the ABC shuttles near the exit when entering Tijuana or will I need to call an Uber to get me to the Tijuana Central Bus station? Thanks for your help and I will be landing in SAN so that was helpful info!

The boomers have broken all this back in SD, young families are hurting here and need a way out.
The start of the video is in the Portland airport and then he walks out of the door at the San Diego airport wearing the same outfit. So I presume he flew Portland to San Diego. Very clever!
The physical pronto card is not free, it’s $2 plus your fare. Also, you can take a FREE shuttle called “Flyer” to Old Town SD station & take the trolley to San Ysidro from there…
That can vary between what type of unit you have. There are one bedrooms all the way to penthouses. If you’re interested in making a move to, from, or within Tijuana shoot me an email zach@foxre.com

I don’t know if you mentioned it but where do you get those purple cards?
At the stations from the little deal you load up on
Is the border open early in the morning to get back to San Diego? also does the trolley and bus have a early schedule?
PedEast is open 24 hours and I think the trolley opens at 4:30AM
what are the hours of service for the 992 bus and Blue South trolley...???

Far better rates just up the block at either the ABC cambio or the Border Xchange cambio. The one next to McDonald's has very poor rates.
