Blade follows a Japanese warrior code called Bushido. The Plant is a source and focus of his inner peace. When samurai believed that they were going on a suicide mission they would kill the plant as there would be no one coming back to tend it.
Cassie -- it's not that the gun vaporized the vampires, it's that vampires instantly burn to ash when they die. Blade's gun/s fired silver hollowpoint bullets filled with garlic, and he aimed for the head or the heart. (Hollowpoint bullets expand after being fired; they hit the body with a small hole, but the effect on body tissue after the initial entrance is... unpleasant.) The reason "Mr Crispy" regenerated is that Blade didn't kill him outright; he was pinned to the wall with stakes in non-vital parts of his anatomy. And the police put the fire out before he was consumed by it; therefore he was still "alive" and able to regenerate.
I also remember when blade came out there was a website from the studio of lore about the vampires and there were not just vampires but they were clans, not exactly like vampire the masquerade but you could get some hints fo that and one of the clans, i forget its name, could regenerate. Quinn was one of those.
The black trenchcoat, black shades, black leather, and fighting with martial arts and machine guns was the trend during the 1990s, up through the 2000s.
"C'mon, those *ARE* the Neo sunglasses!" Sharp eye, Cassie, but in fact, Blade came out in 1998, and The Matrix came out in 1999; Neo copied Blade's style.
Nobody copied nobody. Movies use a lot of sunglasses because of eye blinking. A lot of action movies especially from earlier days. When you “pull the trigger” you blink, so the way around this is sunglasses. I didn’t know this a while back either. But it’s simple to find out.
Lol, EVERYBODY in the Matrix copied Blade's style. leather sunglasses... You'd think one of the crew's Matrix Projection would just be wearing a flannel and jeans, or something.

When David S. Goyer first pitched the idea of doing a Blade movie, the executives of New Line felt there were only three actors who could possibly do the role: Wesley Snipes, Denzel Washington and Laurence Fishburne, but in Goyer's mind, Snipes was always the perfect choice for the character of Blade. And everybody should agree with that.
Snipes' people didnt want him to do this saying he was above doing this type of movie. But Snipes wanted to do it because he never saw a black vampire kicking ass with martial arts before.
They're all great actors, but Snipes was definitely the right choice. His physicality and agility is impressive and his martial arts background really shows.
I like Fishburne, but he would have been a bad choice. If they had got Denzel all the fight scenes would have been 100% stunt people, also Denzels also 7 years older than Snipes. Snipes was essentially perfect for the role (outside of any unknowns).
Dafne Keen was asked which actor in Deadpool and Wolverine changes the most when they put their costume on, and she couldn't name one but she said that Wesley changes the least, because he IS Blade.
Snipes was a multi-discipline black belt in real life and required almost no training whatsoever for his fight sequences, just rehearsal of the choreography. Keanu Reeves by comparison had to study with a legendary team of stunt choreographers from Hong Kong 12 hours a day for 4 months non-stop to perform his fight sequence in _The Matrix_

Now you have some understanding of why the fans exploded with joy when Blade made his cameo in D&W and said the iconic line. No overload of special effects, just fast action, great lines, and humor to take the edge off. Wesley Snipes had a great career before his legal troubles. You might want to check him out in New Jack City, To Wong Foo..., and White Men Can't Jump to see some of his non-action range. And, Cassie, you don't always have to do monsters and blood to be scared. There are some great horror thrillers out there that are really scary because they could possibly happen, like 47 Meters Down, Don't Look Now, and the original When A Stranger Calls. Look forward to the next Halloween-themed movie.
Snipes also nearly steals the show in Demolition Man. Simon Phoenix may be his second most iconic role behind Blade. You could tell he was having a total blast playing Phoenix.
Not surprised she didn't like it. The movie shows a harsh dark world. Not exactly her scene. The plot has some problems too, but the action is so great and Blade is so dang cool. Blade has grown up in this world. It doesn't make sense for him to be lighthearted.
Lol a lot of Marvel movies were very dark before the MCU tbh. Think of the Affleck Daredevil (even though not great it was quite serious and dark) and especially the Punisher (with Thomas Jane). A lot were not that humorous. Mainly started with MCU although the Tobey Spiderman films did have more balance
The Daywalker! Some marvel films are always tryin ' to ice skate uphill, but blade got the formula right before most even knew it. This and simon phoenix are my two favorite wesley roles.
it's important to remember, Blade spent his formative years thirsting for blood, and wondering what he was. it's completely in character, for Blade to be the way Snipes plays him. at least, he became a vampire hunter, rather than embracing his vampire nature

Thank you for your sincere and honest opinion on this movie! I knew from the start that this film wasn’t going to be your cup of tea. But understand that this movie, as well as the first X-Men movie, were the first films that paved the way for the development of the comic book movie genre. They subverted expectations, more so X-men, and showed film makers that it was possible to bring characters like this to the big screen to please both fans of the comics, casual movie goers, and critics. This movie was extremely important to lay the foundation for future comic book films.
Just wanted to say Blade 2 is an even better movie. Bigger budget, more action, more characters and more exposition about this world of vampires. Blade does you give you a little more personality in the sequeL. You get a little more human side of him, but the stoic side of him is part of his character since hes not a pure human as well.
despite the fact that people say that, i've only seen blade 2 once and can't remember a damn thing about it... and i've only ever caught bits and pieces of 3. but blade? i can quote most of this movie.
01:25: "Does Blade use sword or guns?" Yes. 07:41: "Come on, those are the Neo sunglasses." Welcome to the early 2000s. Enjoy your stay. I don't mean that everything was ripping off "The Matrix," I think "Blade" actually came first, by a little bit. But that was just part of the times, long coats, black leather, dark wraparound sunglasses, supremely stoic stoicism. 38:24: Please, *please,* for the sake of my sanity, stop making "Twilight" references in my "Blade" movie!
I think this wasn't her cup of tea because it doesn't make vampires too fancy and she is definitely the "pretty, oh so fancy" vampire loving type. Notice she smiled when she first saw the "elite, vampire council", she is into that aspect of vampire lore. Underworld was violent but still had the beautiful, danity, aristocratic vampires that women like. Blade shows them for what they are, ruthless, cruel and hedonistic. Immortality combined with using humans as food will do that to you.
See, this is why I want her to watch the Castlevania show, not only will her perception of vampires completely change, but her perception of cartoons as well, It's a win-win.
Ryan Reynold's is in "Blade: Trinity" as Hannibal King. Wesley Snipes had a beef with Reynold's during the shooting of the movie and that's why in "Deadpool and Wolverine" when Blade tells Deadpool "I don't like you" when they first meet, Deadpool responded "You never did."
There's a recent interview with Snipes about DaW and he mentions that him and Reynolds actually get along great. Snipes main beef during Blade 3 was with the script and the director.
@@Jackalblade9 Rumor is that Snipes wanted a love scene with Jessica Biel's character and the director/writer refused to add that scene into the script.

Wesley Snipes is an extremely accomplished martial artist, so all those moves were really him. He even had to slow down because the camera couldn't keep up with his speed. In case anyone’s wondering, Curtis, Karen’s ex, is something that happens depending on vampire media. In some vampire lore depending on what you’re watching/reading/game playing, there is something called a ghoul. It’s like a vampiric slave, thrall, or zombie like creature that obeys a vampire that turns them. Depending on the media they may maintain human like appearance or go full zombie. Ghouls vary in vampire media but in Blade it’s an accidental thing that happens. Like how they said vampirism can be born with or contracted like a disease. In this lore it’s like another disease that comes along with vampirism. Hope that clarifies
Another example about ghouls. In anime/manga Hellsing, only virgins become vampires (or atleast that's how it originally worked), non-virgins become ghouls.
The movie that saved Marvel. Marvel was on thr verge of bankruptcy and this movie single handedly saved it. Made enough money to keep the company going. This is the grandfather to The MCU.
Marvel wasn't on the "verge" of bankruptcy. They in fact declared chapter 11 bankruptcy at the end of 1996. Secondly, though Blade grossed $131 million at the box office. Marvel didn't see any of that. New Line Cinema made the film, and they were given license to use Blade from Marvel for the bargain price of a mere twenty-five thousand dollars.
@Pocorn Bladed saved Marvel as a studio for cinema...... not to mention was a R rated anti hero film 20+ years BEFORE Deadpool 1. Unless you love Marvel and DC you have NO idea how important this film was then and is now...
In the comic books Blade didn't have any powers besides being immune to vampires. The "half vampire who hunts vampires" thing was borrowed from a Japanese movie called "Vampire Hunter D."
Before Neo and John Wick, Blade paved the way. I remember being blown away when I first saw it and became addicted to action films. I love the franchise and Wesley Snipes IS Blade! There is a less known movie you might like, similar action style. Look for Christian Bale and Sean Bean (Boromir) in Equilibrium (2020). I see the sequel Blade 2 in the same level as AlienS and Terminator 2: Judgement Day. A fantastic sequel!
Blade was an OG Marvel movie, largely responsible for all the good that followed. And the movie we all pointed to and gave a Jackie Chan meme when people commented about Black Panther being "the first black super hero" and again when they changed the goal posts to "commercially successful black super hero" This was awesome.

@@unrelatedcoma Imagine calling Blade 1+2 bad movies, when they are both one of the best comic movies of all time. With 3 i agree, it was bad, but the Deadpool movies are overrated too.
We owe this movie a lot. If it wasn't for Blade, we wouldn't have the MCU today. Marvel was on the verge of bankruptcy. When Blade came out, it was a box office success that gave Marvel a lifeline and compelled them to make more serious, gritty films. This led the way for X-Men, then the Spider Man movies, and then Iron Man, which started the MCU golden age. None of it would've been possible without this movie and Wesley Snipes' dedicated performance.
The X-Men was already in pre-production when this movie was made. Technically Spider-Man was too, though pit was the James Cameron version that ended up not being made. Anyway, financially Blade did help save Marvel studios but it had nothing to do with the X-Men or Spider-Man being made
I was so stoked when this movie came out. I was reading comics in the early 90s when Blade was part of the Nightstalkers with Hannibal King and Drake. Being part of the Midnight Sons, they were always crossing with Ghost Rider and Johnny Blaze, the Spirits of Vengeance. "Blade" is what a Marvel movie should be, rated R and geared toward young adults and older, like all the Punisher movies and Netflix series. I fear that if they try to remake it now, it will be ruined by a PG-13 rating.
They probably make it Rated R after Deadpool enter the MCU but I don't know about the quality. When there is a problem in production really a surprise to movie come out good.
The more younger people that finally discover this movie always shock me by not saying anything about Traci Lords being so prominently featured in the opening scenes. "The more younger people that finally discover this movie always shock me by not saying anything about Traci Lords being so prominently featured in the opening scenes" Generally speaking younger people aren't going to be intimately familiar with the career of an ex underage pornstar who was active in the 80's. Blade is very special and means a lot to comic book fans with regards to movies and how comic books are treatet as source material’s treatment when brought to the screen (which is why he got such a phenomenal reaction when making that appearance where you first met him). This movie was the start of comic books being treated as serious material in movies and not played for laughs and instead respects the comic and respects the character. It did this before x-men which a lot of people incorrectly consider to be the first to do so, but it was this movie? This, and the incredible quality of the movie is why it’s so revered.
Yes, and did you enjoy them so freaked out and squeamish that they hated them? Why do you people recommend more than milk-toast movies to the most skittish reactors on TH-cam? Do people get off on it?
The success of Blade (1998) definitely paved the way for future Marvel movies, though I personally don’t think Blade "saved" Marvel. X-Men was already in production before Blade came out, and the rights to Spider-Man had already been sold to Sony, with work on the script underway. So, regardless of how Blade did, we would’ve still seen X-Men (2000) and Spider-Man (2002) two iconic films that had a larger impact on both Marvel and pop culture. Spider-Man really embraced comic book elements and was a huge success, which stands in contrast to the darker, black leather style of X-Men and Blade, though this tone fit Blade really well. A lot of people still don’t know that Blade is a Marvel character, which makes sense since the movie never featured the Marvel intro and nothing about it really screams "Marvel" to the average viewer. Surprisingly, some people didn’t even realize X-Men or Fantastic Four were Marvel, which as a comic fan, blows my mind. But because so many people associate Marvel with the MCU so there’s this disconnect between the MCU and anything outside of it. These days, though, I think the mainstream audience is getting more aware of Blade and his connection to the bigger Marvel universe. It happens with a lot of characters. I’m sure there are people who didn’t know Constantine is a DC character either, so it’s always cool to see their reactions when they find that out. Hopefully the Blade film is good and opens the doors to a Midnight Sons film starring a team-up with Doctor Strange and other supernatural characters.

Blade follows a Japanese warrior code called Bushido. The Plant is a source and focus of his inner peace. When samurai believed that they were going on a suicide mission they would kill the plant as there would be no one coming back to tend it.

Good to know.
Plants aren't well known for growing on their own.
Cassie -- it's not that the gun vaporized the vampires, it's that vampires instantly burn to ash when they die. Blade's gun/s fired silver hollowpoint bullets filled with garlic, and he aimed for the head or the heart. (Hollowpoint bullets expand after being fired; they hit the body with a small hole, but the effect on body tissue after the initial entrance is... unpleasant.)
The reason "Mr Crispy" regenerated is that Blade didn't kill him outright; he was pinned to the wall with stakes in non-vital parts of his anatomy.
Also despite how he comes across he's actually several hundred years old and vampires get more resiliant as they age.

Sharp eye, Cassie, but in fact, Blade came out in 1998, and The Matrix came out in 1999; Neo copied Blade's style.
Nobody copied nobody. Movies use a lot of sunglasses because of eye blinking. A lot of action movies especially from earlier days. When you “pull the trigger” you blink, so the way around this is sunglasses. I didn’t know this a while back either. But it’s simple to find out.

It's a fun story about the makeup effects. In the opening scene, the vampire that gets burnt ends up in the morgue. They were all pleased about how well the makeup worked that someone thought it was real.😂

You just let those people complain. You're doing just fine just doing you. If they have any personality they can start they're own channels.
YES!!!! Two movies that I asked for in a week? Thank you Cassie, you're the best!!!!
Yes, and did you enjoy them so freaked out and squeamish that they hated them? Why do you people recommend more than milk-toast movies to the most skittish reactors on TH-cam? Do people get off on it?
Don't listen to the people who say you're not getting scary. You do you! 🙃
Men in Black to the MCU!
@@orbislameI remember when people were excited about black panther and say “ finally a black superhero”.
They didn’t know blade was marvel first black superhero live action and R18+ movie
I sure as hell had no idea Blade was a comic book character when I saw this movie. Didn’t know for years. Same with Constantine.
@@Jeffro5564 Sure, sure. But you know that’s not what I meant by “Men in Black,” right?
@@orbislame I hope Marvel actually does something with Men in Black. I loved the Animated Series growing up.
Absolutely cannot wait for your reaction to The Fly!
"what was that creature we saw in the cellar?"
Pearl???
Just a really, Really, REALLY, REEEEEEEEEEEAALLLLY fat vampire.
Pearl is a VAMPIRE Librarian and record keeper... No one doesn't exactly know how old Pearl is... But they say he may have been around since the early 15th century.... After DRACULA....
A troll
You guys are doing the due diligence on explaining what I already said in detail...... Pearl is a really, Really, REALLY, REEEEEEEEEEEAALLLLY fat vampire.
Nothing more need be said about it...... Frankly the movie explained it all before you guys.
I think the Pearl character is interesting in that it shows how a near-immortal person who decides to live a sedentary and well-fed life can turn out after doing that for a long time. Humans can get grossly fat and survive, this is telling us to imagine a vampire, with all that physical durability and regenerative power, doing it.
@@ideologybot4592 yeah, I often ask the same questions about a bunch of fictional characters like this though.
Predominantly this character Pearl, and guru from dragon ball z..... If their diets are comprised to liquid based...... How much do they ingest for their bodies to metabolize so much mass??. Obviously this is over multiple decades and or centuries but I still wonder.
Wait.....not a single comment on Blade's cool as the surface of Pluto, 68' Dodge Charger???
Fer shame, Ms. Popcorn IB.😉
The plant is a peace lilly. You kill them when you go to war.
Blade is a classic but tbh Del Toro knocked the second blade outta the park. Thats my favorite blade. First 2 blades are awsome. 3rd blade not so much tbh. 😊
Just remember Blade came out 5 years before Underworld and Blade is from Marvel Comics and his first appearance was The Tomb of Dracula #10 (July 1973).
I read my mother's copies of Tomb of Dracula when I was growing up in the 80s. I was...a little taken aback by Blade's altered look in this, but I got on board with it pretty quick. Not all change is bad.
@@Jackalblade9 Really a lot of this change is from Spiderman:TAS. It also introduced Whistler for the first time.
@@Jackalblade9He looked a lot like Snipes’ look in the early nineties comics.
The creators of Underworld reached out to the people who did the Blade movies to do a crossover movie but Marvel declined.
Blade is waaaaaaay cooler than neo
My personal favorite role Wesley Snipes did was in Demolition Man, he showed that besides being a really good action star, he could also do comedy, my opinion of his role in that one, he outdid the joker for being a really good villain with a wicked sense of humor.
How many things the directors of the film The Matrix adopted.
Clothing style, glasses. Jumping on buildings. Music during combat.
Frost's eagle leap became Morpheus's leap and so on...
You obviously weren't around in the 90s-2000s every one of my friends had a black leather trench coat and it wasn't because of blade 😂
Nothing, The Matrix would have already been in development when this came out. That was just the style of the time.
Blade and 90's cool in full effect here 😎
Yes Wesley Snipes does an awesome job as our intrepid hero kicking ass with Guns a blazing , Blades of course and high flying fists and feet 👊
supporting cast does a great job as well
RIP Kris Kristofferson. 🙏
"There's only ever gonna be one Blade."
Heyyyy!!
Where's our Favourite squeamish wimp, Carly??!! 😂
She would've Loved this trilogy.
I knew she wouldn't like it. She only likes funny "quirky" characters or very vanilla ones. Even when she likes the action, she can't understand these type of characters. Twilight ruined vampires for her.
Whoever is complaining that these movies aren't scary enough...go away. Stop trying to ruin Cassie, she's a sweetheart.
Bro she's seen some of the scariest movies around lol.
@@clarkness77she's been avoiding exorcist like the plague dude
Yeah hopefully one day she will. I get why people just refuse to. But she's seen much scarier movies than the fly
He cuts the roots of this symbolic totem to show his independence from the people who made him and raised him--his adoptive father, his mother, and the vampire who bit her.
Blade came out a year before the first Matrix. So if anything, Neo's sunglasses are a copy of Blades.
7 months before. They were both being filmed at the same time so neither one inspired the other
@@PhysicalMediaPreventsWea-bx1zm true
who knows what will happen with Mahershala Ali’s version, but can always look back at this one and remember that Wesley Snipes was the one who started it off 🕶️
MCU Blade is in development hell because Mahershala Ali was not happy finding out Marvel Studios wanted him for only *one* movie, to pass the torch to the daughter.
The jab in DP+W is nothing compared to the utter disrespect by Disney/Marvel Studios.
The Matrix didnt inspire Blade, it's the other way around. The black trench coats, sunglasses at night, expertise in guns and swords, jumping over buildings, the elevator hallways fights, dodging bullets, being the chosen one, I can keep going
'Blade' came out first so you may need to edit your edit :).
(obviously 'Blade' didn't invent e.g. being a chosen one, expertise in guns etc. though)
To be fair they only came out 6 months apart. They were both being filmed at the same time. So neither one inspired the other
No it didn’t, they were made and released only months apart. That was just the style of the time.
I really think "Warm bodies" would be a perfect October movie for Cassie.
Romance and zombies, it's perfect :D
I think she's already saw that one. Not as a reaction but on her own before the channel started.
@@PhysicalMediaPreventsWea-bx1zm Awww, too bad. I really would have liked to see her reaction.
38:31 it is his iconic line
Batman and Robin was released in 1997 and completely destroyed comic movies. Then a year later Blade came out and completely saved comic book movies.
B&R was good
@@TheN1ghtwalker It was made for kids, which is fine. But it wasn't what any of the fans wanted at all.
Listen to the director's commentary on it, he was under pressure by the studio to make it all sugary sweet and he gave them exactly that.
I will also admit it is fun in a really campy sort of way, like the old Adam West Batman series.
@@GamingwithDweavis It's a pretty good representation of silver age Batman. Yes, it's not what any of the adult fans want including me but as a kid I loved it. Also if it was an MCU movie everyone would've preferred to love it like they do all their other goofy movies.
I can't believe you guys made Cassie watch this , lmao
