    I found an error in the specs at the end. the barrel is cold hammer forged, not Colt hammer forged. Auto correct got me and I never noticed.

    If you could find it, I would have to try that trail boss powder for subsonic loads. I bet it would take deer out to 100 yards with 400 grains at 1000 feet per second. Hard cast bullets don't expand and will penetrate right much more than expanding copper jackets. A wide flat nose 400 subsonic would get some deer or maybe bigger stuff. Hogs in Texas?

    Great review, can you weigh in on a comp between the Ruger manufactured vs, the original Marlin? I did not hold out much hope when Remington procured the rights. They make good bolt guns and autoloaders but, trying to go into manufacturing lever guns without the old hands to do it spells bad outta the gate.

    • @rangehotcom
      @rangehotcom  ปีที่แล้ว

      I reviewed the Remington made Trapper a few years ago. It was a decent rifle but the Ruger made Trapper is a better build, noticeably slicker action and trigger.

    If you shoot for groups, then give the barrel a rest between shots. Let it cool off. How was the suppressor, did it help a lot?

    • @rangehotcom
      @rangehotcom  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      This is not a precision rifle so letting the barrel cool off between shots will do little to nothing for accuracy. The can helped a great deal.

    • @pamtnman1515
      @pamtnman1515 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@rangehotcom thank you for telling me. I appreciate it. I’ve been wondering about it since buying the new SBL. Not going to agree with that assertion about letting a barrel cool, but it’s your channel, not mine.

    • @rangehotcom
      @rangehotcom  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @pamtnman1515 letting the barrel cool between shots will make a difference on a precision rifle with a medium grade barrel thickness or less. The .45-70 and a lever gun is not precise enough for such practice while a Remington 700 bolt gun in 220 Swift would be.

    This rifle has lots of power th-cam.com/users/postUgkxQt2uORDRfFOVSrO4idv4B90ThT6EOnEL , hard recoil and a little heavier than expected which affects accuracy, especially when firing freehand or hunting small game. Really rough on sites, as it often moves inside mounting rings. Replaced sight with a UTG Bugbuster, which required medium height mounting rings, but improved accuracy while sighting in as shown in attached photo, at 20 yards using Gamo Match Diablo pellets at 7.56 grain. Nonetheless, I am still trying to figure out where to install the mounting rings on the scope to avoid it from sliding around, as it becomes misaligned after about 50 or 60 shots. Currently considering using heavier pellets at about 9 grain with different tips like the H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme or the Crosman Ultra Magnum to see if accuracy improves. Overall, I am having lots of fun with this rifle.
