Well not to offend you but an 80 is to low see the requirements, it says high 80s to low 90s and plus you need a really good extracurricular activity or some sort of thing that would highlight you as a robotics engineer enthusiast.
@Sam Torres are you asking her or asking me? I'm a visa applicant and my school uses letter grades so idk how it would be converted into percentages. But according to the entrance award, I got 85-89.9, I'm pretty sure I would have gotten 90 if it's not for English which pulled my avg down severely. I think the AIF is what helped me pull through. I talked about how MechE aligned with my aspirations and that I really value hands on experience and the co-op. Apart from aspirations, you will also want talk in detail about other things to convince them that you're a good fit for their program. For example, I talked about how I used my knowledge in physics to allow myself to swim more efficiently.
This was pre-pandemic high school marks. Talking to my younger cousins, they were getting like mid-90s when a couple years prior, were getting barley 80s. Basically, online classes are the reason why SO MANY PEOPLE are getting 90s in these math and science courses, as if they were 80s. LOL. Reason: I'm 100% during tests and other other evaluations, people were cheating (looking at their notes, asking their smarter friends for the answers, googling, actually paying websites to see if the questions were previously answered etc). Now that classes have returned to normal for the most part, interesting to see if universities will 're-adjust' cut-off averages to pre-pandemic levels.

no it wasn’t timed although there’s a written portion of the interview that is timed. I think you’re given 2-3 minutes to think and then another 2 to write down your response but I’m not 100% sure
i have a question! when listing jobs and such that you’ve worked at, do you think it would be okay to list a family job? like my dad ran a store where i’d help some days of the week: would they want to know that and consider that as actual work? or should i not mention it was family run? haha
If I were you I would include it especially if it's something that you allocated a lot of time I don't think it matters that it's family own but more about the experiences you've gained from it and how you are able to manage your time and balance school and work!
@@heidijiang2125 thanks so much for the help! does the uoft online portal ask for any place to list employment like uw? or just only extracurriculars like clubs and volunteer?
I'm applying to Chemical Engineering at UofT and Waterloo this year (fall 2021)! Should I have taken biology in high school because that is the only science that I didn't take in high school? Did you take any biology courses or were any biology-related topics covered in university? Another quick question, when listing your extracurriculars/awards on the AIF, do they want to see full sentences or are bullet points (like a list) okay? Would you be able to give me some tips for the online interview component because I am so SCARED for this and the deadline is coming up?
hey! I'm currently taking a bio course but I don't think there too much bio in the next few years. It also depends on whether you choose a specialization or not. For the AIF they make it like a list kind of where you can add how ever many extracurriculars and it asks for start, end, description, etc. so you won't need full sentences. Definitely try the practice interviews to get used to coming up with answers quickly and maybe prepare some ideas for possible questions they might ask. But don't stress about it too much, you'll do great!
I'm kinda in the opposite situation. I'm taking the IB diploma, and I feel like my overall score is enough. I'm applying to computer science, but the class requirements are so weird. Some require chemistry and physics, and I just took computer science as my science. Kind of second guessing applying, rn.
I haven't looked too much at computer requirements but I think if you are trying to apply to computer engineering they usually require chem and physics although computer science usually does not and only requires adv func and calc

from what I know grade 11 marks can only benefit you. they look at your grade 11 marks during early acceptances and don't really look at it after that so don't stress too much about it and just focus on this year:)
I’m in the EXACT same situation as you. I’m currently in the first semester of grade 11 and did horrible in pre calculus 11. I’m taking three other courses this semester and my grades for those are good (low to mid 90’s). But my grade in pre calc is 56% (I know, shameful) I still have a chance to bring it up before the finals (which are in a few weeks) but even then it’ll maybe go up to a 60% and no more. I’m SO worried. I’m taking pre calc 12 next semester and I know I can do well on that. This year was just hard for me which is why I did bad on that one course. I looked into it and some universities say that if you did two different “level” courses of the same subject (pre calculus 11, pre calculus 12) etc, then they look at the higher one. So they’ll ignore my grade for pre calculus 11 and instead look into pre calculus 12 grades cause it’s the higher level of math. But I don’t know if it’s accurate and it’s worrying the hell out of me. I’m so scared that I’ve messed up and that I can no longer recover from it.
Great video, with regards to your marks did you have to present your marks only for 6 subjects or all the 8 subjects ? Is your acceptance was based on the 5 subjects required as per the website plus 1 of your choice?
I believe if you live in Ontario your school sends your marks for you and the university will look at the marks of the 5 required and the highest of your other courses. I’m not too sure about the process outside of Ontario
