This game was so fun as a kid. The demo was on one of the computers at my dad's work, and whenever we would go over there we would always want to play. I always wanted this skull shield but you couldn't traverse past the third level. Eventually got the full game not long ago, such a good series.

My dad was so powerful at the game that I left him in a dungeon for an hour being attacked, and came back and he didn’t have any damage. He had over 2000 dexterity
Just got all four FATE games after a nice steam sale for $11.97, and the memories it brought back were astounding. I remember playing this on the WildTangent thing on my way old pc back when I was way younger, and remembered all the fun I had running around with my pet cat. Fishing, battle and gear were all integral as well as what was at the time awesome 3d graphics. Cannot recommend this enough to anyone that played it back in the day, 9.5/10 at minimum!
Notes Part 2/2 from my earlier comment: 8:43 Elite and Legendary enemies have much higher stats all across the board, but they all have the normal skills they had as regular enemies. They don't get any new toys unless they are a Boss Enemy, but I believe that the Magic they use has stronger effects and higher damage/healing. 9:14 Your playstyle is Bows/Crossbows, Summons, and Offensive Magic. Since you aren't relying on Shield Battle for protection and don't always have the room to be firing at a distance, (like how enemies can shoot you from off screen) it does get hard for you deep down. You also don't seem to use Ringing Blast much, which would help with chip damage and giving you breathing room to use Town Portals to escape in close quarters. On the higher difficulties, this tactics is more encouraged. If enemies are on the opposite side of a wall, use Lightning Strike or Scorch to take them out in 1-3 hits. Or this tactic. Have a Town Portal set up in the middle of the mob, come in with 6 summoned enemies, and use Ringing Blast to keep some breathing room and for chip damage so you can warp back to town to heal and return with 6 more summons until the mob falls. Hit and Run taken to it's greatest potential. Additionally, try entering each new floor with 6 summoned creatures to have some chance to breathe like you could at 9:32 and go back upstairs if you just cleared the floor, where there will be no monsters to attack you as you regroup. Ringing Blast helps a lot here as well.
Admittedly, I haven't used this much, but I do see it working in the video here in the right conditions. 10:25 If you train your ears to all the various monster's noises as I have over the years, you can identify whatever is close by from what you hear. You can't see them or they haven't seen you, but you can identify them. Just to name a few noises: Abominations have a deep, menacing laugh. Imps and Hags/Swamp Sorceress' have a high pitched, mocking laugh. The Ghosts all have a raspy, errie shriek. The Beetles all have a chittering, angry sounding shriek. Vampires and Nagas hiss like snakes. Bugbears, Orcs, Ogres, and Cave Giants all have a deep, almost confident chuckle. Wolves make howl calls and the Stalker Cats have low, menacing click like growls. Pretty much every enemy has identifying sounds. Try opening both inventory screens and listening to just what sounds get made besides the music. 11:24 FATE was in development for (at minimum/most) 6 Months. And yet it was Runner Up for 2005's Game of The Year. Impressive for a game this relatively minimal compared to many others. Travis Baldree had his fingers in almost every inch of the pie on this one. Check the credits, it's crazy how much involvement he had.
I played this game for quite awhile as a kid. It actually scared me at points! I never completed the game but I bought it again on steam. So someday I’ll complete the game because ,despite its problems, I absolutely adore this game.
The fondest memory i have of this game is finding out that you could get rings and other items when fishing in they village pond, I spend like an hour fishing and i accidentally got a giant stone crossbow that i couldn't use because i was nowhere near the level needed to use it.
I always loved the soundtrack. Sure there are not many tracks, but they are all top quality, and there is a lot of nostalgia for me. I sometimes listen to them when I am coding, among many other video game OST's FATE was my first ever video game, so plenty of nostalgia whenever I revisit it, which I mainly do when I just want a really simple game to relax to, rather than one I need to put effort into.
This was my Diablo before my Diablo, if that makes sense. It really taught me about the aspects of what a rpg is, even if its simplistic or very broad.
I remember this game. My younger brother used to play it all the time when we got our first computer. I can recall the times when I used to play a shit load of game demos and desktop flash games.
I am from north of Green Bay, Wisconsin. I remember fishing one day on this game and found the legendary Peronto's Cheesehead of the Emerald Bay artifact. Literally blew my 11 year old mind.
I found one too, I have kept it on for thirty levels and made so much money. Not that I have anything to spend it on, but it is nice to have a large money number.
Currently playing this after years. Thanks for the video it gave me a refresher on everything I forgot. Was confused on what was the point of the song to go up rank
first off. fishing in this game is TOTALLY OP. legit getting high level stuff takes about an hour and in the begining you can get a legendary suit. (even though you can't equip it yet.) also I played this game as a kid with my three older sisters. we all made our own builds and tried to finish the game before the others. I got to the end first. I played with a tower shield and a mace. my ten year old self knew only to hit them hard and hit them fast. in the end the game was my first ARPG and I'm very stoked to play through undiscovered realms along with the others. they sort of fixed the repetitiveness of the first by adding more dungeons in the later games. it will still have it's flaws but I still love this game. it's a good classic with all the things that make and ARPG an ARPG.
My mom has loved video games all of my life, we bought the first two games and I was like 7 or 8 but I watched her play this game for hours. We’d take turns on one character and I knew not to mess with her inventory besides spells and potions lol. It was so much fun, lost my Wild Tangent account but I bought it for my own pc yesterday, loving it so far that I actually understand what’s going on.
I recommend to all of you play this 2005 Fate, Undiscovered Realms, Traitor's Soul & The Curse King! It will be worth your time, it is worth a while for your grinding cravings.
I used to play this game on my grandparent's computer when I was like 10 or 12, like 2006-2008, it was my first ARPG that I played, didn't get into Diablo until way later. It was always only the demo though, so I remember only going down like three dungeon levels before I couldn't progress the game any further, and we never got the full game since I wasn't allowed. Now that this game and all the expansions on Steam are on sale, I picked them up and will be playing them all the way through now.
This game came with my sister’s HP laptop. At the time, we didn’t really speak or read a lot of English, so she basically played out of instinct. Still, she managed to complete the demo, later on got the full version and completed so many levels that I’d see her character getting jumped by a bunch of monsters and at the end they’d be the ones defeated. She loved the game. As I was a little girl I’d get scared with the huge spiders and other monsters and would cry when her doggie fled during a battle but I did enjoy fishing in the lake and feeding the dog a variety of weird fish. I still remember one time I fished a black and blue tuna and fed it to the dog and he became a black unicorn with blue fire mane. Miss those days!
I remember playing this game on my pc my dad bought me a few games that came with it and one of them happen to be fate, I spent countless hours playing it I would all do side quests and avoid the dungeon because I was scared of going alone in the dark and fight monsters
Admirable Review. As a veteran of the Original FATE who has been playing it off and on ever since I got this for my Birthday in 8th Grade, FATE is without a doubt one of the most balanced and easy to pick up Dungeon Crawlers you'll ever play. Looking at your review, I thought I'd also leave several worthwhile notes on some parts you would find helpful for repeat runs in your spare time. (Notes Part 1/2) 1:41 Page is the Easy Difficulty and Legend is the Hardest difficulty. Higher up in Difficulty you go, the farther down you must travel to defeat your "Final Boss" enemy. Additionally, that "Final Boss" also has a mob of a single randomly selected enemy. And all of those enemies are Non-Quest Bosses as well. (It could be ANY type of monster but a select few. FATE randomizes the "Final Boss" and it's horde enemies with each new game.) 2:59 Whatever you pass down, DON'T have any Movement Speed Bonus on it. After repeated pass downs to future descendants, Movement Speed is capable of getting so high you don't even run or walk around effectively. Rather, you basically teleport around the map erratically. 3:39 Dogs and Cats don't have any major stat differences when you start out. They don't have any Attack Speed differences or anything like that either. I could be wrong here, though. If I am, someone point it out. 3:55 Fish transformations also effect what type of Effects the basic attack of the pet does. Lava Beetle only deals Fire Damage. Creeping Widows and Venomous Wyverns deal Poison with basic attacks. Brain Beasts drain Mana on each strike and let your pet cast Frailty, Blindness, and Muffle Magic. Abominations can cast Haste and Spectral Armor on itself, and (If I recall correctly) can cast Fireball, besides a basic physical attack and/or basic magic attack. It also seems to have Lightning Strike in battle later in the video. Test all of them out to see what surprises they can all have. 4:12 Sending the pet to town for sell off is very workable in the lower levels and is more safely advised on lower difficulties. On higher ones, ALWAYS go to town yourself when both inventories get full. Even if your pet's damage and survivability is less than yours, you will want and need the extra help against the monsters. And the deeper you go, the longer it takes to get the pet back for yourself without just warping to town and meeting it there that way. 4:46 However you build yourself, remember the golden rule: "However you build yourself early on is largely your playstyle for that save file." You can have opportunities to try new styles/approaches here and there on that same file, but stick to your roots if the other options are not as reliably pulled off without big drawbacks. 5:35 The only thing Dreya CAN'T do is cure statuses outside Poison. You have no choice but to wait out the status' duration for you to be cured on Slow, Frailty, Muffle Magic, etc. 7:38 Magic Anvils are best used for mega expensive items since it's FREE enchantment. Also very nice for giving Yellow Hued equipment Sockets for higher sell prices or personal use. (Beck's Wolfbind NEVER fails to have 4 Sockets when you find it. NOT a glitch.) Shrine of Learning can also permanently drop Stats or Skill Points. Use with discretion on higher difficulties where Stats and Skills mean way more than on lower difficulties. 7:55 DO NOT be an idiot and get excessive with paying Fame and Gold to keep getting revived where you fall. You can really get into a serious rut of having to keep traveling forward and not getting levels to get better stats and use better equipment. You can also just choose to Quit and lose whatever progress since you last saved. I have done this before and it's HARD to get out of the hole on it.
Once you get to like lvl14/15 you can start making infinite money by buying high quality unenchanted items then enchant them with the penguin guy, then sell them back for big money.
Hmmm, one classic gem from WIldTanget games, i do remember the fun of the demo like all others, actually speaking of old games anyone Wild Tanget Vets here? You see, i've been looking for fate for ages, when i finally found it looking on the old wildtanget games website, which surprisingly still adds games to its list, i was hoping to try and find some older games like fate, i do remember there was two in particular that i was o so ever like to find again: this one with driving, all i can remember was playing in a single level in demo mode (a city like map) i don't remember much of the game since i was young then, a couple of tracks ps2 era graphics and a lot of racing, fun that's about all i can remember, of course all i'd like is the name so i can find it again (hopefully both of these on steam) Also, the other one was i think a Sci - Fi/space FPS game? I do remember speaking to NPC's in a somewhat story like thing, it had an inventory system and what not kinda like an RPG, but because i was young and didn't understand what was going on all i did was shoot NPC's lmao. When i look at all the wildtanget games all their Sci - Fi games are either the shootem up top down galaxy sim or RTS's inspired by command and conquer etc. Sorry for this long request, and an odd one at that P.S this was a very great review even know i'm about a year late. :/
me and my siblings use to be stuck with trial version, taking turns playing, and remember making it to level 10 and them being like "how?" at the time as we only had an hour to play at a time
I remember being able to open the game files in Microsoft word and change the stats of weapons. Or open the image files in paint and change the color of weapons/monsters/npcs
I remember always summoning a unicorn; I learned how to spell unicorn because of this game when I was a child. And I remember getting more gold by typing it idk if it was a hack or not I do not remember
I really appreciate that u added the part about how torchlight was based on fate cuz while iv never played torchlight I had heard of it because xbox recently made the very first 1 free on there xbox live 3 free games a month and added it but haven't played it yet but now I'm very excited.
This game brings back tragic and happy memories. Ive played the game for hours on my dads computer. My dad actually had a SUPER powerful legit character (he didn’t know about the easy question mark command hack) enemies would actually near insta-die when they attacked. Sadly I was a stupid kid and deleted his save. I don’t think I can ever forgive myself he instantly lost interest in the game he used to play for hours
This takes me all the way back to my childhood, where I just stayed on the character customization with out realizing soon enough it was more than that.
I used to come home from pre-K and play this game on my old computer why did I throw it my first childhood game I think I had a lot of good stuff because I played a lot and defeated a boss but I don’t remember kinda
Fate came with an old Toshiba Satellite I owned back in 2009 with Windows Vista on it. Fate was actually pretty good, but the first Torchlight game put it out to pasture. Today I'm a Linux user and play Torchlight II way more than I played Fate or the first Torchlight game.
I grew up playing this on my friends dad's work computer and the demo on my old 2003 dell laptop. It went on sale for the summer sale 2022 it was 0.78$ I forgot how hard the game was, it feels unfair at times
i have a lot of nostalgia with this one when my dad decided to buy 3 games for me when i was a kid randomly he bought this game, world of warcraft and a little unheard of game called fable
I remember a game exactly like this.. but the begining was in the night, not in the day, I'm pretty sure. Also, we had to talk to a old man or magician.. That's weird :(
You know, one of the things that keeps me playing is the sheer level of strategy that you have to use for the extreme levels of the dungeons. Literally. It forces you to cheat wisely. And even though the enchantments are randomized , the game gives you enough time to to strategize the perfect items (although if you’re not careful, you can overenchant, and dispel all the magic). I don’t know if it’s legitimately possible to go to floor 1000000 without using cheats and even then, you can get crushed without the right spells and equipment. 😂
I grew up with the demo of this on my folk's Dell computer. Never touched Diablo until way later
I was going to comment about this since I remember the same thing

You see, i've been looking for fate for ages, when i finally found it looking on the old wildtanget games website, which surprisingly still adds games to its list, i was hoping to try and find some older games like fate, i do remember there was two in particular that i was o so ever like to find again:
this one with driving, all i can remember was playing in a single level in demo mode (a city like map) i don't remember much of the game since i was young then, a couple of tracks ps2 era graphics and a lot of racing, fun that's about all i can remember, of course all i'd like is the name so i can find it again (hopefully both of these on steam)
Also, the other one was i think a Sci - Fi/space FPS game? I do remember speaking to NPC's in a somewhat story like thing, it had an inventory system and what not kinda like an RPG, but because i was young and didn't understand what was going on all i did was shoot NPC's lmao. When i look at all the wildtanget games all their Sci - Fi games are either the shootem up top down galaxy sim or RTS's inspired by command and conquer etc.
Sorry for this long request, and an odd one at that P.S this was a very great review even know i'm about a year late. :/
All of the games are available on steam :) I used wild tangent as well. This and Crystal Maze were my favorites.
me and my siblings use to be stuck with trial version, taking turns playing, and remember making it to level 10 and them being like "how?" at the time as we only had an hour to play at a time
it seems like everyone had the same childhood playing this game
Given that I was born before home computers or home gaming consoles existed, I'd say no.
I remember being able to open the game files in Microsoft word and change the stats of weapons. Or open the image files in paint and change the color of weapons/monsters/npcs
They're all on sale now.
this is not just a game, this is my childhood
god the nostalgia.
At 2:32, "fish are a good source of gold". #VideoGameLogic
I remember always summoning a unicorn; I learned how to spell unicorn because of this game when I was a child. And I remember getting more gold by typing it idk if it was a hack or not I do not remember
Played this game as a kid. Cool to see an in depth review. Thanks for doing this.
FINALLY!!!! AFTER 10 YEARS!!!!
Kiss u
I used to play demo version but now have full I still remember owlbear in demo
You ever gonna do the rest of the games?
My god,, that town soundtrack gave me so much nostalgia,, fate is my first arpg on my first pc.
Really hope you guys cover some RTS games in the future. Would love to hear your thoughts on them.
Soooo nobody picked up on that "Britney Amber"? No one?.... I'll ask myself out, I have... aaam stuff to do anyway.
I loved this game so much as a kid. Played all the 3 sequals.
This takes me all the way back to my childhood, where I just stayed on the character customization with out realizing soon enough it was more than that.
the musiccc. This demo had me hooked back in my schools Dell PC lol.
I had the demo version, played it so many times, definitely a hidden memory
Thank you!! Now I know existence and name about that medieval game which I remembered as demo on WildTangemt back in 2012!
I used to come home from pre-K and play this game on my old computer why did I throw it my first childhood game I think I had a lot of good stuff because I played a lot and defeated a boss but I don’t remember kinda
This game and Siege of Avalon was my favorite pc games as a kid
they are on sale right now. You can get all the games for 12 dollars
Fate came with an old Toshiba Satellite I owned back in 2009 with Windows Vista on it. Fate was actually pretty good, but the first Torchlight game put it out to pasture. Today I'm a Linux user and play Torchlight II way more than I played Fate or the first Torchlight game.
I got the cheese hat when I was little
I grew up playing this on my friends dad's work computer and the demo on my old 2003 dell laptop. It went on sale for the summer sale 2022 it was 0.78$ I forgot how hard the game was, it feels unfair at times
This game is the ultimate game to run on any potato PC!
I wonder if you can play this on Steam Deck?
>If this game ever did go on sale…
Laughs in now it’s $0.79 because of the summer sale 🤣
Still the best Dungeon Delver game series.
i have a lot of nostalgia with this one when my dad decided to buy 3 games for me when i was a kid randomly he bought this game, world of warcraft and a little unheard of game called fable
2 billion levels? How long would that take to reach?
Is it possible to play fate without buying this game 😕please let me know
You can probably find a demo somewhere.
Got em on sale today 😅
Admit it. This wasn't in your recommendation
You searched for it. 😌
yep
They need to make more fate game
Can this game be used in mobile version?
I feel like only torchlight 1 and 2 can be the substitute of this game of my childhood
I have the original collection but i lost it when I get to new house
I just found this channel and it's great!
Can you make a video on the game (rise of nations) it is a good old game just like Fate.
Keep it up.
I just unlocked a memory
Fate got me into RuneScape as a kid
Fantastic game still today, like SERIOUSLY FANTASTIC games.
I remember a game exactly like this.. but the begining was in the night, not in the day, I'm pretty sure. Also, we had to talk to a old man or magician.. That's weird :(
Could I put Fate on my cell phone?
Who else remembers playing the demo of this or purple place when you were a kid
I have these on disc, gog and steam. Love these games! Pure nostalgia.
My parents bought me the full version for my 6th bday…LOVE IT
This & trine & the doctor who pc games where my go to pc games that were not flash
Such a throwback! I remember playing this on HPGames :)
Fate's enemy variety is mind blowing
You know, one of the things that keeps me playing is the sheer level of strategy that you have to use for the extreme levels of the dungeons. Literally. It forces you to cheat wisely. And even though the enchantments are randomized , the game gives you enough time to to strategize the perfect items (although if you’re not careful, you can overenchant, and dispel all the magic). I don’t know if it’s legitimately possible to go to floor 1000000 without using cheats and even then, you can get crushed without the right spells and equipment. 😂
I first got my copy in a church basement in a flee market.
Thanks for the video. I was awed by this game as a kid. was fun.
