This video definitely makes me feel better. I was feeling guilty because I tried this approach recently because I've had a sudden difficulty sleeping for several days now. But I just felt afraid to be in the bed at all, and the feeling of a ticking 15 minute clock in my head telling me "10 minutes left to sleep! 5 minutes! 3!" just made me feel worse. I've noticed the couple of times I got better sleep recently was when I just disregarded that rule. Time obsession is a general issue I have, so keeping track of time like that really doesn't help me it seems.

It really doesn’t ! The numbers are an external construct and they are useful sometimes but not with this!

Waking once or twice is a problem, and I tend to flop about like a fish getting frustrated sometimes, seemingly for hours.
My wife I a warm sleeper too and I am a cold sleeper so this can be a problem, I think?

Is it the waking that is the problem or the response to the waking? Definitely look into ways of separating bedding so you each get what you need!

Hi Tracey I struggle staying awake on sofa before bed then once in bed I struggle to sleep. I know my sleep drive is fine as I prove that every night on sofa. Will stimulus control help me?

Possibly yes. Another way is to retrain/work on that response to the wakefulness in bed. It's hard to say because I don't know nearly enough - in the long run we want to be OK with being awake in bed and some people start that process with stimulus control and some don't. Depends what will set that person up best for successs.
