    Doctor Know has just left the theatre. You better start eating a lot of jam to get the jars you’ll need for the work you’ll get from these videos. Looking forward to the liners being fitted. These are interference fit, no seals? Great stuff on the strip and tips, though you won’t be the first to build a gearbox blind. Worth the watch, the time flew. Don’t stop now!

    Hello from the PNW (Seattle area) USA.
    Learning a lot about the mini.
    Always loved these little cars but they're somewhat rare here.
    Although there is one available local to me for a decent price. 1971. So maybe.
    I'm a motorcycle enthusiast and the gear box is similar.
    Having several bikes in the garage and a few more in the house.
    A mini is the only thing that would still fit inside.
    From a Dodge Charger srt8 to a RHD manual trans mini would be a weird transition to say the last.
    Great work, thanks 👍✌️

    I have been without internet for the last few weeks getting converted to fiber optics so I have not seen the last few videos. This means that tonight I can settle down with a few beers, some fish and chips and binge watch just to catch up. What a fantastic way to end the week. Looks like the quality has gone up but the content is fantastic as usual.

    So glad to hear you're up for videos on gearboxes and diffs. There's so many videos that cover engine strip-downs and rebuilds, but it's much harder to watch a gearbox being tidied up or a diff being shimmed. I guess it's not considered as sexy or exciting as an engine or some such - but they're just as important. Looking forward to what you put out next. Cheers, mate. :-)

    • @HREIRL
      @HREIRL  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That was fantastic! I realise that different people are looking for different things but for me that was really informative and will be practically useful. Our 95 SPI is crunching in 2nd and I have a complete engine/gearbox from a mini neon to give me a substitute gearbox. This video will be a great reference. The explainer at the end was ideal for someone like me.
    Too stuff. Really appreciate you being so kind as to give us all exactly what we ask for.

    Your videos are really educational and I'm sure that they're much appreciated as working guides. This one brought back many memories, broken baulk rings are, were, quite common. Even in my modern car I still heal and toe, old habits die hard! The car's computer doesn't approve though because I get a warning message saying that the brakes have been applied, this message only comes up when I'm heal and toeing!

    • @HREIRL
      @HREIRL  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Tony no the modern car defiantly do not like heal to action but it saves a gearbox a-lot of wear thats for sure

    Asked and answered! Wonderful video and thank you for taking the time to show a gearbox strip - you do it more quickly than me, mind you I've only built 3. You can make the videos as long as you like, could watch them all day. Are you also replacing the needle roller bearings under the gears? Keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing the dog box, have no idea about them! All the best, Paul

    • @HREIRL
      @HREIRL  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes always replace them Paul as they often go unnoticed and make a huge difference to keeping second gear alive

  • @aussiebloke609
    @aussiebloke609 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    32:20 It is possible speed-match with a double-clutch on an upshift, but it's a little awkward, as you need to wait for the engine revs to drop the correct amount before re-engaging the clutch (in neutral) to get the gearbox internals all spinning together, rather than using the throttle to match the revs as you would for a downshift, so timing is all-important. It used to be more common when using sliding-gear transmissions, as opposed to these newfangled constant-mesh jobs you have now. :-P

    • @HREIRL
      @HREIRL  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We call that Double D Clutching here which is exactly as you say clutch disengage gear lift clutch let engine rpm drop reengage clutch shift up and release clutch 👍
