    I literally just bought pretty much this exact same pickup but with a utility bed. Was a telephone pole repair truck in Montana but it's been sitting for 10 years, since the previous owners grandfather passed on. I plan on overhauling every component by the beginning of next summer so I can take it on a road trip to Texas. After that I'll convert it to a personal Fire Utility Truck for wildland Firefighting

    i reallly liked the combination of "classic Diresta" with little bits of commentary/voice work in between. Its a good formula! Also, that 77' stepside has amazing patina, i'd leave it like that! Maybe do a boiled linseed oil finish or a clearcoat or just wax or something.

    As someone who used to "fix" rust problems on cars to get them through the British "M.O.T" -( a test that is required every year after the car is 3 years old) you did some rather clever tricks that we used to use. One trick you missed though was using Iron phosphate to reverse the effects of rust. It is a neat trick. Check it out it is a brilliant hack!

    I like! This video has a similar vibe to the old Hack N Pack Shop videos. Super informative to the viewer, labor intensive to the creator, and edited in a concise way that keeps it interesting. On top of that, watching you work on this project is adding fuel to my own fire to get started doing similar repairs to my 73 C10. It was my grandfather's truck that he bought new, I inherited it at 16 back in the mid 90's. Being 16, I immediately did all that I could to make it faster...which exposed a lot of weak links (broke a lot of stuff) on the old truck. I cut my automotive teeth on that truck. It's just been sitting outside ever since, rotting away while I spend years trying to work my way up to a big enough shop that I can spend some time on the project without taking up all of my available space. 41 years and I'm not quite there yet. First world problems...

    Jimmy, a good welding tip for solid welds is to clamp a piece of copper plate where you plan to weld, and it will help prevent burn through and the weld won't stick to the copper.
    Also, why don't you make a , cool fiber optic/led chevy emblem and maybe install led headlights?

      Depends on where you are and where you have been driving. Like in my case most of the rust damage is usually on left since on coming traffic throw salt crap at that side, where other side just gets whats on the road, unless you drive mostly on the passing lane on motorway (we have two/four lane motorways)

    • @jeremyspecce
      @jeremyspecce 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hellsong89 obviously if that’s your experience I can’t argue with it but I would think most of the road salt/ dirt in the inner fenders comes from the vehicle’s tires itself constantly kicking up the salt as it drives. In any case the new inner fenders definitely transformed the under hood area and gave a nice solid place to bolt the outer fenders to so it seemed a worth use of time in this case.

    @23:03 I found Rustoleum Rust Reformer works really well as a rust coating and rust prevention spray.
    I've used it on tools without even sanding down the metal and the paint stays on, doesn't flake off and keeps rust from forming.
    I also coated the inside of my wheelbarrow and was amazed by the durability of the paint coating to scraping, dirt and stone thrown in it!

    You definitely have competition out there Jimmy. Someone took a load of Ferric Oxide and shaped it into a Chevy Truck, threw on a coat of blue paint, and had you fooled lol!

    F it, lets buy a new one. 😄 Yep been there. When working on old school cars/trucks, its not hard going from fixing to full on restoration. Its like any other project, you get ideas and you deliver on them. You know your hooked when your researching ideas right before you go to bed. Looking forward to the build. I’ve built 3 cars from the ground, I enjoy building dreams.

    I had 3 Silverado's over the last 17 years. Chevy has always made a good pick-up 👍
