- Centuries of conquest have allowed the Aztecs to become the mightiest empire in Central America. But when strangers appear on the shores of the Caribbean Sea, Montezuma, emperor of the Azetcs, is unsure whether they are conquerors...or gods. Can a vast empire of warriors using obsidian spears and cotton armor hold off mounted invaders armed with metal armor and gunpowder? Will the Aztec island-city of Tenochtitlan continue to conquer the Americas, or will it crumble beneath these foreign conquerors?

Ohh gee. Since viper decided to not make a TC, the trigger that signals the AI to make military units was never activated. Which of course means that he has a clear way to the wonder. I'm always amazed at how he manages to do these things accidentally.
Also, there's nothing really particularly interesting about the gold island (other than the reappareance of Ornlu). Once you build a TC, the guy would have told you that this island belongs to the jaguar god (or something like that) and that there a shit ton of gold there, as if there isn't enough gold already on your island.

Yeah, the AI doesn't start building units before then so that it doesn't amass an unstoppable army while you're stuck having to play the "fixed force" bit of it where you can't build an economy. So it only starts making units when you can make units of your own as well, and the devs figured you'd always build a TC at that point so they made that the trigger.

I didn't even capture a villager, and just converted 2 cannon galleons and managed to get the wonder easy as that :D
yeah, I boomed on the south island after converting 2 vills. But it was actually more fun. Often if you avoid the trigger, it´s not really a challenge.

Like I said, I have a theory: Vindlandsaga had Ornlu the Wolf so instead of killing it, Erik the Red brought it along to the journey to explore the New Land therefore his and his son's existence in the New Land!

Viper rarelly follows the instructions of the game, but the single time he follows one, its a instruction that isnt neccesary to follow.

Hey Viper, pay attention to the titles of Cuauhtemoc. He was a jaguar (jaguair) warrior at the beginning, then he became a prisoner and now defender. Maybe next time he's gonna be something different...

Yeah. I actually never noticed I should go to the opposite side of the lake, I always just break through the gates and destroy the wonder.
Actually, you can seek in near the castle of Tlaxcala, and attack the order straight.
@@Stenkrm I actually did it on hard in DE but it took me several tries (guess it would have been easier if I hurried more at the beginning). The idea is to attack the wonder with everything you have and then just send in your ships and skirmishers as "castle bait" while trying to dodge as many shots as possible with the skirms. Also, keep one unit safe so that you don't lose if all your units die
I never heard the intro or outro to these campaigns while doing them, it gives a better understanding of what we are doing and is intersting to know so good thing viper is listening to them.

I dont think Viper will see this, but I will deliver the heads up anyway.
In all Campaigns up to Rise of the Rajas, there the script was removed, AI wont build any military units until you Build It, Get it (from Gaia or other script) or Start With a Town Center (dont work if you delete your TC unfortunately).
That means if you kill all of the AIs stationary starting units and never get the TC, AI never replace them.
Michael Šperl Can confirm this, recently played the Viking battle, and all AI scores were constant until I got a base running.

You can rush straight to the wonder from the start of the mission, even without the reinforcements and be able to destroy it. Just right click the wonder, not the villager
Game literally tells Biper to convert vills

So like the French campaign except instead of Joan and those knights, everyone unit is a hero

Cuauhtemoc hero unit was added with Forgotten Empires though

That Jaguar Warrior is supposed to be Cuauhtemoc, the narrator of the story in Montezuma's campaign.

You are meant to run straight up to the blue villagers and basically convert as many as possible before they run away. You started with converting conqs so the villagers were gone (or killed by your troops? didn't pay attention there). But as long as it works it's part of the plan, I guess...
6 years late but the vills ran to the castle it seems

Yea, outside the box attack was interesting. I definitely would never of tried that, but it worked. Couldn't help but stress when he was about to drop that first town center
BIPER in the next mission make sure you take a naval unit to the topmost corner of the map (north) :D
lol as soon as I built a TC, the Spanish started spamming Cannon Galleons at me on both sides of the bridge... I guess I could try it this way instead.

Huh. I simply tore down the gate to the city with my army, invaded the city and tore down the wonder without ever getting the ships over the lake.
So... I always failed this mission because I spent to much time building up n economy? Hmmm. Now I definitely have to try it again with Viper strats minus the micro :D
When you build a tc, ai starts making units, so this scenario is much easier to do without starting economy.

I did the exact same thing
on standard difficulty, you could rush the wonder with your starting jaguar + the units on the south. Idk if this works on hard though
@@qwerasdf-oy6uo you can still rush it on hard if you add the onager and the prisoners into the mix and use your ships and skirms as "castle fodder"

If you replay some of the missions, you should definitely retry this one.
If I am not mistaken, you could speedrun this mission by simply get the warriors, sneak around the castle by the bridges and then run straight for the wonder.
There is also a video of this strategy on TH-cam. Just look for the Age of Empires 2 :: Live SPEED RUN (0:05:09) by Barbarossa89 #AGDQ 2014. (it starts around min. 12)
I remember destroying the wonder with just those units. It was on standard though. It's harder on hard.
I just tried to do a speedrun on Hard. On the first attempt, I got killed by the Castles behind the Wonder and on the second attempt, I destroyed the Wonder, but all my men died before the trigger that gave me the win got off. On the third attempt, I won in 00:05:37.
The speedrun by Barbarossa89 was done on Standard.
U can go and kill the wonder with the op dude at the start and there are some turtle ships at the top
completely at the top there are also some gaia turtle ships for some reason.
I was watching mulan and I realized at the begging with the horse is the exact same as ale 2

I just monk rushed with 20 monks split between 3 different hot keys and converted the siege workshop and trebuchet to destroy the wonder lol. Such a fun campaign level
I don't know about the hd edition but in the regular old game you could just rush past the castle and the units with eagles and destroy the wonder before it gained any hp ^^

The finest way is to go straight to the wonder at the very beginning! Mission finished in less than 2 minutes

I really think that skipping FE campaigns (and doing after the other ones) is better, I don't want to see TheViper get dismotivated to play singleplayer because of the much worse level design that FE has
