Gravity Falls: Soos' abandonment issues from his dad walking out on him but not completely abandoning him by sending the occasional card to remind him he still exists out there. Man that hit HARD! It's bad enough his dad abandoned him, but for his dad to even leave a sliver of hope that maybe JUST MAYBE he may come back is such an awful form of psychological torture. Basically keeping his own kid on the hook and holding out hope for something that will never happen.
To make it worse, him getting the cards on his birthday seems like a terrible present and reminder his dad doesn’t care enough to see him.😭
That hits me hard. I need to watch that episode now

Actually, the reason Riley's bully is never seen and is treated as a member of the audience is because it was an episode addressing the harassment actress Rowan Blanchard was receiving from certain viewers. It literally is a fourth wall break, although I don't know how effective it was at stopping the behavior.
Probably not at all given the fact some people still act like children when it comes to talking about a tv show character or even a real life person they dislike. It's unfortunately a cycle that will never end in the world

The Owl House actually touches on Chronic illness as well with Eda's curse. They show how having a chronic illness affects the whole family, how patients can be marginalized, taken advantage of, and how whether or not you have truly supportive people around you can make things better or a lot worse, but that not everyone knows instinctively how to do that, that some will need to be taught and that's ok as long as they're willing to learn. As someone who has lived with a chronic illness my entire life, it was so beautiful to see such an authentic portrayal in a kids' show and I really wish I'd had that growing up.

Yes, well said! I also think her curse is very relatable to anyone who has a mental illness or other disorder, especially those of us that also take psychiatric medication to cope with it. When I first saw that scene where she said that with the proper treatment it's manageable, I could really relate and I was happy to see such a portrayal when mental illness and other disorders aren't really talked about sadly. Even when they are, I feel like often they neglect to talk about psychiatric medication and how it's a viable course of treatment. Too often I think people view it as a "crutch" or they think medicine changes who you are. There's so much stigma still surrounding mental illness and psychiatric medication. It's not a crutch, and it doesn't change who that person is. The problem, I think, is that people still view mental illnesses as being personality flaws rather than the illnesses they actually are. But anxiety is no more apart of a person's personality than, say, a broken leg or having a cold. Medicine takes away that anxiety (or at least makes it more manageable), the same way you put a cast on a broken leg or give antibiotics to treat an infection. The person may be calmer afterwards, but that does not mean their personality has changed. If anything, that is their TRUE personality. That is what they would have been like if not for the anxiety. Medication does not alter a person's identity, it gives it back to them. It returns control to that person.
When I first started taking medication for my anxiety, I feared that it would change me too, or become a "crutch". And you know what? I did become a lot calmer (it took awhile though, along with some therapy) but rather than change me it gave me the chance to live again. To rediscover who I am, without the anxiety. Anxiety does not define me. I am not my mental illness. My mother was afraid that if I took medication it would turn me into a zombie, make me numb, but we were desperate and gave it a try. It did not turn me into a zombie or make me numb. It restored me, gave me my life back. I wasn't living before, just surviving. And I still feel the full range and breadth of human emotion that everyone else feels. I still feel happy, sad, angry, and yes, even afraid. My medication does not make me incapable of feeling fear, just controls it. But I can still feel fear and I still struggle sometimes with anxiety attacks, but they are more manageable. Now I am thriving, not just surviving. I see the same mistakes made with depression and depression medication. People see depression medication as "happy pills" but they don't make you happy. They just alleviate the depression so you can be happy again. But taking them does not give you any kind of high or make you suddenly happy all the time. Sorry for the long comment, this is just something very near and dear to me so I kinda went off on a tangent.
Hannah Montana also had a serious episode where they delt with the death of a parent. Sure Robbie Ray was introduced as a single father at the start of the series, but later in that season they addressed Miley and Jackson's mom's passing (which is assumed to have happened a year or two before the start of the series), with Miley being upset that Robby Ray is ready to move on and start dating again.
Also the horse episode when the horse almost dies and the episode of the identity crisis of celebs, those 2 alongside the one that you mentioned are stand outs in the whole series

I remember that episode. Towards the end they talked about diabetes. What a controversial dark episode.
"Girl Meets World" was more lighthearted compared to its parent show, the scene where Riley breaks down over being bullied is a definite standout. I also admired the decision to never actually show the bully on screen, since she was a metaphor for certain audience members who criticised Riley's character for being too annoying.
I even like how it differs from bmw. Cory having a bully was serious but had some of it played for laughs. Glad gmw shows how bullying takes a toll on people to the point the bullied take out their anger or handle it in negative ways
I feel like Boy Meets World touched more on abuse and drinking
Ok so BMW was on ABC which allowed more serious issues to be covered but GMW was on Disney so it allowed less issues to be covered.
I don't understand why they put GMW on Disney to begin with, that was the first mistake. Aside from a couple common issues, the show is pretty ordinary. I don't hate it, but it's nothing compared too BMW. Also is focuses waaaay to much on a "love" triangle between three 14 year olds...
Another really serious scene in gmw is probably the one where Maya tries to forgive her dad for leaving, but can't. She then turns to Cory, who goes "You were never meant to forgive him. But Maya, did you forgive yourself?" and she just broke down into tears because she's always blamed herself for her dad leaving and honestly, it was the most heartbreaking scene in the whole show
That’s So Raven & The Proud Family were shows that celebrated blackness in such a real way. I got Disney+ just to binge watch both! They are true gems 🙌🏾

It's not Disney Channel, but Static Shock actually covered most of those topics all on its own, from racism to dyslexia to gun violence/bullying, but also homelessness, the importance of representation, and loss of a parent.
As well as PG versions of gang violence, drug addiction, stalkers, online predators, and the importance of interacting with the police properly. Among other things. Although I will say probably my favorite episodes of the bunch were the ones with Anansi the African superhero. The way he and static played off each other was the best.

I have been in a wheelchair since I was 6 in 1990. The only time I saw a disabled person in cartoons as a child was professor x in X-men. I remember being impressed with how well they handled Felix in Kim Possible when I watched it with my younger sisters. The way Kim acted around him at first was extremely relatable as was the way Ron treated him because most people act like one of those two ways when I first meet them.
Pelswick in 2000 on Nickelodeon was great. The main character was in a wheelchair and had a sense of humor about it. Everyone treated him exactly the same as others, no pity party.
Did you ever see Avatar the Last airbender with the kid who had the wheelchair that could be converted into a paragliding device?

I've also looked for representation in all the shows I like. I've hoped that I'd stumble on someone like me in shows who didn't have badly written character growth.

If people are wondering why no episodes of _Boy_ Meets World made the list, it’s probably because they’re sticking to series that originally aired on Disney Channel.
But Smart Guy was listed, and that started as an ABC show just like BMW.

Sydney to the Max really doesn't get enough credit to how much issues it's tackled. It's tackled the death of a parent, Microaggressions, Learning disabilities, internet body type stereotypes ECT and I am so glad I started watching it now when I just thought Disney channel had nothing but bad shows now and I relate to Sydney with the death of her mother cause it also happened to me when I was little and I love the show now.
I’m sorry for your loss. I understand what you were saying I grew up with Good Luck Charlie and Shake It Up and the shows like that but I wanted to check out Andi Mack and Sydney to The Max and both were as good as some original shows. Also the episode with Emmy’s learning disorder hits close to home because I have something very similar to that.
@Jasmine N. I have watched it and can explain it so there was a project at the school in Sydney’s time that they were assigned historical figures. And the teacher accidentally assigned them based on their race. So then Sydney is disappointed and Emmy tells everyone her sisters definition of micro aggressions. And then Sydney and everyone else in the class calls their teacher out on that and that’s the episode. I forgot what the Max subplot is but I’m assuming it’s similar.
@@gracebleekman2557 The Max subplot is about some computer club (i think that’s what it was) being run by Leo. But when their club gets on the newspaper, they point out that Max (the only white kid in the club) is the leader because the person writing it assumed he was since he was the only white kid in there. They try calling the person out, but he dodges it and says that Leo is overreacting. And I don’t remember much about the end but i think they get some help from the vice-principal and call the newspaper person out again and it works that time

@@_..jolene.._ I know I just wanted to prove a point I think that five shows do. Don’t get me wrong I grew up with Good Luck Charlie and Shake It Up but I love Sydney to The Max and Andi Mack so much.
I learned that I had dyslexia from shake it up. Like my parents had confronted my teachers and asked them what was happening because my spelling and grammar was all over the place. They always said something like “she’ll grow out of it” “every kid is like this” etc. but when I saw this episode and then Bella Thorne a like little blurbs about being dyslexic, I ask my parents if that might be it. With in the week my parents scheduled a test to see if I did and hey what do you know I had it as well as dysgraphia and ADHD. Although we didn’t really figure out I had ADHD until my junior year of high school. But it was a big step in the right direction, I am so thankful for that episode and that Bella told her story, because who knows when we would have found out if not for that episode.
As a little kid with two moms while this show aired, Good luck Charlie really made me happy when I saw a family like mine on tv when even now I don’t see that to much

Smart guy had many serious moments. Another one was the predator episode. That episode got very serious. Honestly might beat the racism episode. I was very creeped out when I first watched it.

His dad disagrees so him and his cousin decide to get a bootleg version of the game that a kid is selling in a chat room. They have to make the exchange in person. When they get there, they realize the kid is a middle aged man. His cousin convinces him to stay and play the game. They start playing and are having a great time until the man tells them to take off their clothes to play the game. They immediately disagree so the man tries to convince them by showing them a photo album of his other kid victims playing without clothes.

What I liked most about that Kim Possible episode is you would assume Ron the goofy and awkward guy would have had the problems navigating the interactions with Felix, but it was Kim who is usually nearly perfect as she can do anything. It goes to show anyone can make mistakes even if they mean well.
I just want to know how Felix's family can afford that chair.

Amphibia also has a lot of serious issues, as well, like toxic relationships.
You could get a whole list out of Disney Channel animated shows - they often feel like the discarded stepchild in comparison to the live action ones, but they have a lot of very interesting stuff. One thing I really like in the Disney Channel animated line up is the use of "Tragic Antagonists" like Esteban from Elena of Avalor or Varian and Cassandra from the Tangled series - sympathetic characters whose flaws and insecurities send them down a very dark path. What could be more "serious" than knowing your friend or relative could turn bad if you fail to help and support them? What could be darker than learning that YOU could turn bad if you were ignored or disrespected too often?

Don't watch sydney to the max often, but the microagression stuff is well handled. It even shows that the microagressors can realize the error of their ways and apologize/change.

I've got a sister who's half Hispanic, and she grew up with this friend who was constantly cracking jokes about it.
Saying Out of all of us, my sister should be the one making dinner when we have tacos or enchiladas. Or saying how strange it was that my sister didn't want kids (at the time) because "let's be honest, you may only be half Mexican but even a half Mexican is gonna have a whole lot of kids"
It really bothered her as well as us because she didn't know her dad very well and she didn't like acknowledging she was in any way different from us even if it didn't matter to us as a family that she didn't share the same dad or the same genetics.
She finally snapped one day after her friend insisted they go to a Mexican restaurant and make her order since "clearly you'll be the one who fits in best" and she told her she was sick of the jokes and they hurt more than they realized and she didn't want to hang around them anymore if they couldn't stop.
I didn't see that friend for almost a year. But they must have apologized at some point and worked on it, because they eventually started coming by again, and they didn't make jokes anymore. If they did they usually caught it and apologized.
Its a good thing to address. Microagressors aren't always these horrible people who are racist to the core and can't accept differences. Sometimes they're friends who simply don't realize they're hurting you. So you should always be willing to address the situation cause you might be surprised at how they respond.
It's so easy for everyone to fall into using microaggressions, I would not be surprised if I had let some slip without knowing or realising until later or until called out for it (which I always encourage because I need to know where I mess up if I want to change it). But we can learn, we can grow, we can change if we want to.
The Owl House thing would have been a great step for Disney if they hadn't axed the third season
Well, the fans are fighting Disney to get more Owl House content.
For what little it’s worth, it’s not completely axed, there will be a shorter season of a handful of longer than normal episode, but I agree, it’s total trash and I’m torn between so grateful it exists, and so mad that it’s getting so little time to exist!
Disney is stupid for cutting the season 3 for 44 minutes long in my opinion is because of the LGTB content in the show

Allegedly if has something to do with them gearing the more serialized content to Disney Plus and pulling it from Disney now, but not having started TOH on Disney Plus until it was way too lage or something and therefore having less ratings to go on it so they’re claiming low ratings on Disney Plus even though it trended there like more than once and also would have done so much better if they didn’t insist on withholding season one for months and months and still not having part one of season 2 up last I checked. Like literally the cancellation decision was made before they even had season one on their site. TL;DR, there are allegedly reasonable explanations, and creators including Dana say it wasn’t homophobia, but I feel like she probably can’t say it without losing her career even if it was true, and while I’m guessing there were multiple reasons, I too smell something funny…
I remember watching that specific Raven episode on racism, it spoke to me at such a young age. The show taught me many life lessons from a black perspective as well
I'm kind of surprised they didn't include the Girl Meets World episode that addressed Asperger's syndrome. As someone with Asperger's syndrome, this episode truly spoke to me. For those who haven't seen it, the character Farkle is told he might have Asperger's syndrome because of his intelligence and odd behavior. After learning this, his friends help him understand the symptoms. He eventually gets tested and finds out that he doesn't have it, but later discovers his girlfriend does have it. It's possibly the only time the topic of Asperger's syndrome or any autism spectrum disorder was brought up on a show aimed at younger viewers.
yea but not everyone who's intelligent or odd would have it. so it's good they show that as well. a lot of ppl have different types of intelligence: book smarts, life smarts, different skills etc
@@carlyketchem877 theres different kinds of disabilities and degrees of it. people need to be more understanding but also people need to not expect special treatment. people must be accountable for their actions even if theyre disabled but at the same time they shouldnt be bullied or outcast for being different

Idk, this episode was very weird. They all acted like it was the worst thing that could happen to him and like he was going to die. The girl was like “NO YOU DONT HAVE IT, NO WAY” or when he said that he did certain autism related things she said he would stop doing them - which was just uncomfortable to watch.
The fact is we ALL can take something from all these episodes.
One issue I wish kid/teen/adult shows will talk about is male abuse, Although I love & grew up on a lot of these shows they're plagued with abuse towards boys as okay when it's not ( No one should be abused ) . I go back and look at the shows I grew up on because of nostalgia & sometimes I cringe when I see the girls hit their male friends/boyfriends & a laugh track goes off but the other way around it would be seen as a serious issue ( all abuse is a serious issue ) , it's a double standard that needs to be addressed .
Me to. I watch recently a video where a woman hit a guy because he watched another women & and laugh, but after reading a comment I realized it not something to laugh at.
(Also this is a prove woman can be physically abusive to man - the guys are bigger/stronger don't mean anything)

As a young bisexual male, I needed The Owl House when it came out. The representation Luz and Amity were giving is exactly what I needed to accept who I really am, and that I was comfortable with who I am around my family and friends. The Owl House is gonna be a show that I’ll remember for a long time.

I love seeing a list like this, because I feel like people don't give Disney and Disney channel enough credit for the issues they tackle. It feels like everyone is doing everything in their power to hate on Disney these days, so glad to see someone appreciating how they tackle serious issues.

As an lgbt+ person I must say I don’t like how they pander to homophobic countries like China by barely putting us in their content. It’s always small so it can be censored or cut out. Or when it is finally shown, they get rid of it quickly. They cancelled owl house, probably because the main character is bisexual. I love Disney movies but it hurts a lot that they care more about money than representing people like me who still get harassed and killed for being who we are. A company like Disney actually showing loud and proud that lgbt people are just like everyone else could really change some things. But they won’t.
Because Disney literally thanked the security guards at the concentration camp where China holds their Muslim population.
Disney gives us all this yet still aren’t prepared for a grown up Lizzie McGuire…..

I love it when sitcoms talk about serious issues and still include some comedy without ruining the moment
Not Disney Channel but still Disney, Gargoyles did an incredible job addressing gun safety, and actually allowed for the consequences of the episode to be felt throughout the rest of the show. Detective Elisa Maza, the character harmed in the episode, goes several episodes on crutches as only the first step of a ripple of consequences. Meanwhile Broadway, the character that accidentally shot her, despite admitting his own mistakes and hearing Eliza admit her own fault in not securing her gun properly, spends the entire rest of the series hating guns and going out of his way to destroy them when given the opportunity. Any show can get serious, but it takes a special show to let what happened linger like an actual trauma
I would probably say the Good Luck Charlie episode with the cheating should be on this list because it was important.
So many shows already use cheating as dramatic narrative fodder. It's already well covered in many shows before and after it aired

I'm glad that one about racial profiling is in there. Something like that happened to me once and I didn't know how to handle it.
One time I volunteered at a local thrift shop in the town I live in, most of the employees are older white women. Well one of them had me in the jewelry section just to help customers and watch over it. Multiple people strolled past it but this one woman who happened to be Hispanic/ Latino walked by to look at the jewelry and the woman that was in charge of me told me to "Keep an eye of her" because "Those type of people tend to steal their jewelry"...
I remember thinking "Is she talking about her race right now?? I don't understand" And I tried to be as nice and respectful to the Hispanic/ Latino woman as possible because I KNOW she heard the older woman :/ Guess what?? The woman didn't steal anything (Crazyyy)
I work in a thrift store and the store manager always tells me to keep an eye on Hispanics and black people and I always feel bad for those guys and girls

Glad Andi Mack made the list three times, it deserved it! Such a good show and I really hope they bring it back someday. It would be an even greater show aimed at teens instead of kids.

I remember an episode of Lizzie McGuire where she's overwhelmed by worthy causes. Lizzie was pulled into many different directions, not sure where she should devote her time. It got to the point that it was negatively affecting her, so either her friends or her parents told her to pick one or two causes and devote her time to that instead. It made her calm down and she was much happier. The episode sticks with me today because we're told we have to care about literally everything when our brains simply cannot handle that kind of stress. Focusing on a few causes seems to be the better way.

The episode of the owl house when luz and amity kiss was, um, comforting to me. I'm lesbian and i have a bi girlfriend so sometimes things are difficult for us but that episode was the one that convinced me to kiss my girlfriend and it made things a lot more comfortable between the two of us. That episode makes me feel like there's always a way to come back from anything we're faced with 🏳️🌈

I remember watching this episode of Shake it Up. It hit really hard because Bella Thorne has Dyslexia in real life and the moment between her and Rocky is amazing.

I think I remember seeing that back then Disney shows were supposed to have a certain amount of seasons. Like 2 or 3 seasons but that’s so raven was such a hit that they gave it more seasons.

I love watching the Owl House because I can see myself in Luz. I'm a nerdy, teenage, bisexual girl who loves obsessing over my favorite books and TV shows. I remember first watching the show and feeling absolutely ecstatic that I could finally see someone that I could relate to on TV.
As a mixed Iranian (raised as American, growing up with 911 based racism), I was overjoyed when The Proud Family showed the episode about Islam and Middle Eastern families. Certain holidays are cultural, others religious, and some now bleed to be in between, but it's still about a loving family and a new experience. What I wish they did mention is that the girl whom Penny exchanges families with also had some adjustment difficulties; they just weren't as loudly pronounced and it was more about unlearning a particular lifestyle.

I love Austin and Ally to death and I’d label it as one of my all time favorite shows and my comfort show. The way they handled bullying was fantastic. The show has aged like fine wine.
I honestly think the show had more potential than to be on Disney Channel and could have been on a more mature network like ABC or Freeform. A&A could have tackled more mature topics like LGBTQ+, mental health, drinking, drugs, sexism, racism etc. Am I right or am I right?

Another example of Gun Saftey: Gargoyles.
One of the Gargoyles named Broadway is a huge fan of old timey detective films. When messing around with the Main female leads firearm it actually does fire and hits said character in the shoulder. She suffers from heavy blood loss and while she is okay in the end. There are actually lasting consequences. She's in the hospital for a period of time and when she gets discharged she's in a cast for at least a few episodes. Broadway apologizes profusely and she also says that it's partially on her for not properly storing her weapon and leaving it out. Both very important to gun safety.

Man don't get me started on Gargoyles and the impact it had. One of the lines I still remember to this day was from season 3 when the gargoyles were revealed to the public and people were hating on them for simply existing. Angela asked Goliath about it and him saying ,"Sometimes it is better to appeal to one's hatred, than their compassion" hit hard.

I think the Suite Life gets enough credit for how smart it is. As someone who first watched this show at 17 while not every episode of the series has aged well when its good its really good and almost feels like a show for young adults.
15:40 I remember when this episode came out and it put all the girls in our school on edge bc we knew the boys at our school would try this, only a small group did but the teachers put a stop to it pretty quickly (it was a very small middle school)
I love how Disney handles these real problems, but the Shake It Up episode that hit me the hardest was when Roxy did the dare and jumped in the lake, but stepped on glass and had to have surgery on her foot, which might lead her to never dance again. When Cece prayed and begged to go back in time and have it be her instead of Roxy, made me cry very hard. Yes, I'm barely 30, but it was very emotional for me because I have a BFF like that whom I'd do anything for and vice versa. I'm also tearing up a little just thinking of that episode.
I loved seeing the way the friend supported having a friend having a panic attack in andi Mack.
Girl Meets World I feel tackled another serious issue, and that being abandonment issues with Maya and her father.
Now I want to watch Girl Meets World because I also have abandonment issues with my father.
If you want more great disability representation, I definitely recommend checking out foster’s home for imaginary friends. Wilt is an amputee, but also an awesome basketball player, an amazing friend and a fleshed out 3-dimensional character with a backstory. He never feels like a token disabled character and he’s such a sweet, kindhearted, lovable guy.

I wish more of the shows for younger kids played roles like the ones these shows did. I can see a possible Mickey Mouse Clubhouse/Funhouse thing where simple words can leave unexpected trauma.
I forget which show did it but I remember misogyny and stereotypes being tackled at one point. And despite it being written for kids, both topics were handled and addressed very well. And while I don't think the episodes had exactly happy endings with the issues being solved, it was able to shine a light on those types of things happening and how you can handle it, and raise awareness and stand up for what's right.
One reason Disney has been so successful over the years.
“Learning difficulty”. Listen, could you just say disabled? You might’ve been trying to be respectful or something, but mental and physical disabilities are disabilities. We are disabled. We can’t do things others can because of our disability. And it does NOT make us less than. You might think you were being courteous, but it really just makes it look like you just have internalized ableism.
Note that some disabled people don’t like being called disabled, but most I’ve talked to and most people I’ve seen get really annoyed when people sugarcoat it, (including me!)
It feels like your summing it up to disabilities being less of a big deal. What I mean by that, is, while yes, disabilities should definitely be normalized and we should be respected with or without them, disabilities change someone’s life. You need to see how that affects us while not being ableist about it. We need normalization, but at the same time we need accommodations that would automatically come with normalization.

I think all of these entries are important, but a few of them are repetitive. Instead of doing multiple of the same issue, the list should be more diverse. For instance, the episode of Girl Meets World where Maya confronts her father that abandoned her should be on this list. The entire episode was centered on forgiveness, but it subverts the viewers expectations when Maya can't forgive her father but instead learns to forgive herself. It was a powerful moment that was heartbreaking, raw and real and it definitely tackled serious issues. The bullying episode was well acted and important as well, but I would argue that parental abandonment is also a serious topic and unlike bullying, you did not cover it on this list already.
I haven't watched disney channel for years and I was never a huge fan of most of their live action stuff, but i've always had a huge amount of respect for the show writers and creators who chose to do episodes dealing with such heavy issues. it makes me really happy to see more and more shows handling such important issues and that they're doing it while consulting with proper experts to make sure that they're presenting things in a respectful and appropriate way.

Gonna be honest, I didn’t really give Sydney to the Max a chance when it first came out and I regret not giving it a chance after the microagression episode came out. It was handled really well and the show didn’t talk down on the audience about it
As a guy in Felix situation I've encountered a few people like Kim in my life. I'd give them the rundown and make sure they understand that people with disabilities aren't that different from anybody else.
I appreciate that you used the word Ableism in the thumbnail, you didn’t help your audience understand what the word meant. You should have just wrote “representation” since that how you talk about the Kim Possible episode.
For all those interested a quick definition is: “Ableism is discrimination in favor of non-disabled people”. This differs from the concept described by the narrator.
My experience with ableism is far reaching and ever present. The episode discussed did not have any meaningful impact towards helping people understand this concept.
The dyslexia one, "you're twice as tough and the B+ dance" thing was, well, bothersome. My younger brother has dyslexia and it was quite severe. He worked hard, very hard, to over come it. He never played sports, went to recess, or joined clubs. He had to work with specialist and my parents had to fight for his rights in the school system. He is now an amazing adult with several college degrees, but he still has to work hard at things. It's not about his intelligence. He's brilliant. I'd like a show tackling dyslexia, but I also think it should be treated realistically.
Disney is doing good with teaching people real problems.

*racism and judgment (in the made for TV movie return of the roar) simba judges his son kion for picking his friends to join the lion guard..despite seeing what his son sees in them he tells him only lions can be in the lion guard and to stop playing games
*self doubt: in an episode kion uses the roar of the elders and accidentally gets his mom queen nala stuck, thinking he injured her really shatters his confidence til the end of the episode where she forgives him
*bullying : the lion guard deals with a troublesome leopard named mapigano who has been bullying a fellow leopard named badili, after failed attempts at standing up for badili the lion guard finally realizes they need to teach badili to be fast, keen of sight, brave, strong and full of confidence to stand up to mapigano himself
*bi polar (in the last season) even though this part is due to the venom ushari gave kion after giving him a scar like his uncle..kion struggles to control himself, snapping at his friends at various points in the episodes and then going back to being calm only to moments later snap at someone else
*death (last season...even came with a warning before the episode started) queen jana of the tree of life! This ones a lil hard to explain...if it wasnt for queen jana kion and his team wouldnt have been allowed at the tree of life..an episode or two later she passes away peacefully after passing the role of queen to rani who seeks comfort in kion as he consoled her and comforted her
* feeling like ya dont belong : after being blinded by sand Ono looses his eyesight...trying to fight through it only to fail...after resting he decided it's best for Onga to take his place as keenest of sight only to immediately say theres no spot on the guard left for him ( it's not the first time ono felt this way )
*si si ni sawa (we're the same) another powerful lesson learned in the lion guard! Just cause you're a hyena doesnt mean your bad (example: jasiri and he sister and the cubs) and just cause you're a lion dont mean your good (scar, zira, nuka, vitani and kovu)...and even in the end a past bad guy winds up being a good guy ( janja, cheesi, chungu, vitani and kovu)

The Owl House deals with a lot of serious issues.
It deals with parental abuse with Hunter and Belos.
It deals with LGBTQ+ representation with nearly every character.
It deals with non-binary representation with Raine.
It deals with anti-vaxers/people who think that their fake way of medication is better than a science-proven way with Gwendolyn thinking her way is better than the proven way to deal with the curse.
It deals with standing up for yourself against your parents with Amity standing up to her parents and not letting them put her into danger just for show.
It deals with accepting yourself with Eda accepting the curse as part of her.
It deals with standing up for what you believe is right, even when no one else is doing it like Eda refusing to join a coven or Raine starting the BATTs
It deals with having a loved one on death row in Young Blood, Old Souls.
It deals with family issues with a lot of different people.
It even deals with freaking suicide in Eda's Requiem.
Also, I wouldn't be surprised if it deals with abandonment issues with King's father.
