    I bought this bike last summer, and it’s the best thing I’ve done. I’m 67 this year, and I’m back out cycling on a pretty regular basis. I have made some changes, mostly for comfort. I replaced the saddle with a Specialized Power with Mimic, which is an improvement. Also, I replaced the tires with 700 x 42 Specialized Rhombous pro 2, which has definitely improved suspension and grip. I’d wanted to try an e-bike for ages, but I live in a 1st floor flat, so most are way too heavy at around 23 kg, but when I found the Turbo Vado SL, I was sold. Highly recommended!

    What a superb review for which I thank you. Seriously thinking about buying the bike. What a pity a little piece of beautiful Scotland doesn't come with it.

      I want to move on from my Modus Tour as its far to heavy to transport on the car, miles of canal paths and being in the Yorkshire Dales plenty of roads to explore. Been looking at this and the Canyon Grail :ON as the prices are not too far apart

    Thank you for this review - after viewing I bought the 5.0 SL EQ version - which has some equipment lights/rack and different tyres - so far really enjoying the bike - your explanation of the Futureshock stem is really appreciated ( couldn’t figure out what the coloured springs were for !) Overall it’s a really fine bit of engineering, beautifully made ( mine was made in Taiwan) - the saddle may need to be changed for me and possible a seat post but all in all it’s a stunning bike - a design masterpiece. Thanks again

    BALDe-Biker, thank you for your wonderful review. I also purchased the Specialized Vado SL 5.0 last December (≧∇≦). My commute of 26km one way has become so much easier! I get a little out of breath, but now I can ride in headwinds without slowing down my pace♪

    I rode a GT mountain bike all thru the 90 's my turbo Vado SL has that same geometry , i love the bike and have over 3000 mi on mine already , I ride it as a flatbar gravel bike on trails and Greenways and I just started doing some videos of it in action on my channel

    good review and beautiful countryside. i own the 4.0 version and added a redshift suspension stem. i have been thoroughly enjoying this bicycle this summer. I have no serious complaints about this bike. I found it to be expensive at time of purchase but since then realize that it was a bit of a bargain for what I received. only the Santa Cruz Skitch catches my fancy a bit....but I could buy more than two Vado SL's for one Skitch.

      I have the 4.0 too what did you do to mount your light on the redshift stem ? I was planning on getting one too

    I’ve had the Vado 4.0 so for 2.5 years and love it. Super for nipping into town for shopping etc, but also great for rides out. Easy to switch between power modes and rides just like a normal bike with 0 power selected. If you are considering an E bike I would definitely recommend one of these. Great review here and I would 2nd everything he says. A great all round bike, oh and it looks great as well. 😊

    I'm 76. I bought an SL5 EQ this Spring (2024). I get about 40 miles on a (for me) hilly ride, using a lot more turbo and sport than most people might. Turbo will get you up anything, but you HAVE to drop down to the appropriate gear; getting out of the saddle and grinding up hills in the highest gear I could manage is a thing of the past. I was expecting a lot more motor noise. There is no drag from the motor, although turbo is so strong that dropping to sport can feel like drag for a few seconds. Gears are not Shimano, but I favour them over Deore.
    I'm VERY glad I took the plunge with this bike.

    Really enjoyed this video you did a great review. Just about to buy an e-bike for my wife, completely torn between a Vado SL 4.0 and retro fit 42 tyres and a hard tail emtb. Keep changing my mind as weight of the Vado is very appealing and wouldn’t have to upgrade tow bar bike carrier, on other hand wife is not a confident rider and may feel more assured on light trails on an emtb. I cannot decide, any views on the Vado on light trails much appreciated

    Hi mate, nice review and video. I am thinking about buying one of these bikes. I noticed that the front light seems to be pointing downwards too much. Can the angle of the front light be adjusted so on coming traffic can see you more, rather than pointing downwards?

    • @BALDeBiker
      @BALDeBiker  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yes, it can be adjusted more upwards. hope that helps

    Thank you so very much for this review. I thought display was on the handlebars for the 5.0. Maybe its the Eq only. I am close to pulling the plug on this.😊

      That's the normal Vado 5.0 mine has it and the radar etc this is the sl version with less power and torque. This bike is better if your not going up hills. My Vado is a hill eating monster.

    • @C1Ebiker1223

      I think the display was on the handlebars for the 2022 models. It seems to be gone in the 2023 models.

    Just bought the tero 4.0 with the 70nm motor, it almost produces as much torque as my daughters fiat 500, head scratching I know. I test rode the Vado SL and thought it was fantastic but didn’t offer the off road I wanted.

    • @DominicWong
      @DominicWong 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have a tero 4.0 as well though am researching if the vado sl should be another companion bicycle. Thanks for sharing your views. My ride includes country side, some gravel, some off road.. Which the tero handles well. I'm from 🇲🇾

    The major benefit of diffrent modes, is ease of effort with no real loss of speed. Extra gears on a regular bike would mean ease of effort but a slower speed.

    Will mostly be on paved trails and roads, a little dirt, a lot of hills so wondering what Specialised bike may be the best, cheers

    • @BALDeBiker
      @BALDeBiker  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you can get to a shop & have a look at the specialised range of bikes that would be the best. I picked this one as it was mainly for roads, cycle paths & gravel & I wanted at least 30-50 miles of range.

      I’ve got the 2023 Vado 5.0igh and it’s a great bike for commuting, I do a 30 mile round commute along UK lanes and canal paths, you can get a good 60/70+ miles on a charge and I’m nearly 60 and not very fit 👍

  • @andrewpaterson6505
    @andrewpaterson6505 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, just wondering, this bike has a lower torque then some, how does it handle the hills, I had a mid drive Merida and 60 nm torque meant a workout on the hills where the 85 nm torque handles the hills no problem, love the bike just not sure, cheers Andrew

    • @BALDeBiker
      @BALDeBiker  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Its really about weight & torque. So my full mid drive eMTB has 85 nm but is 24kg. It will get up the hills but your dragging all that weight up as well. This bike is more like 15kg, so although the torque is 35nm its hauling up a lighter bike. In its full power setting & using the gearing I'm getting up the hills & not dying at the end. But best to try the bike if you can.
