      The national consensus is that he's a great coach. But he ticked off Ayton in Phoenix and messed around with Ivey. It's one thing to have better options but he ticked off top draft picks.

      He was honest about it. He said he didn’t want to coach and he didn’t coach. I just didn’t expect active sabotage. What he did doesn’t happen by accident. It may have actually taken more effort than if he had coached (or is he just that bad?).

    The bad hand argument won't ever resonate with me: He knew what he was getting into - had this happened 2-3 seasons in, yeah,but I cannot think of a single positive from him being the coach this season. He turned into part of a bad hand ownership dealt their young players

    • @deangelo9999
      @deangelo9999 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      He didn't know multiple people would go out there and shoot below 20% from 3. The team is dog shit we can't shoot and not willing to defend which is why Killian Hayes was getting minutes over ivey but hey ya just wanna blame coaches and not hold players accountable. If Killian is taking Ivey spot and Killian not even in league anymore then Ivey needs to look at himself in the mirror

    • @brianking7757
      @brianking7757 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@deangelo9999 The fact Killian Hayes and Livers are not even NBA players since leaving Detroit speaks volumes as to why they should not have been starters,let alone rotation players. It's the coaches job to identify,and play either players who give the team the best chance to win,or players whose continued development can help the team moving forward. Stunting the growth of Ivey and others to play those bums is inexcusable and 100% the coaches fault

      @michaelahurt 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The first 3 months I completely agree
      I think by around mid-season he was actually invested if only because the losing streak got his competitive juices flowing. Certainly you started seeing better rotations, lineups and schemes as the year progressed
      Also the fact he didn't just take a buyout -- maybe that's playing hardball -- but if you really didn't want to coach and you're this stand up a dude everyone says, you would have taken it

    • @cordelldemattei5446

    Good for Gores to correct his costly mistake. After the Ayton drama in Phoenix, I initially surmised that it was a talented player and really good coach not seeing eyey to eye and the both would be alright but for Williams to come in and almost immediately disconnect with Ivey,and eventually Thompson,made me literally seethe. And this was after the embarrassing manner his final two seasons in Phoenix ended

    I was a huge fan of hiring Monty. I think he’s a solid coach and a great man. HOWEVER, it became clear almost from day 1 that he was a bad fit. His entire demeanor and body language told me he didn’t really want to be there or had too many off court distractions. The national media is roasting the pistons for firing him but if he doesn’t want to be there and it was a bad fit from the start, why run it back? I literally saw NOTHING positive from him all year long.
    There’s no way firing Monty fixes everything, but it does fix one thing: COACH! We need to hire a bright energetic coach who can connect with our players and bring the best out of them. Monty never came CLOSE to doing that. I absolutely agree our roster is terrible. But to me it’s not even so much how many games we lost this year- it was the way we lost. We were uncompetitive far more than we should have been. A large part of that was the coach.

    It's hard to remember all the way back at the beginning of the season, it was so painful. But Monty's team BOUGHT IN at the beginning of the season. How many times were the players mentioning the .5 offense? How many times was Stew putting his hand to his chest motioning he was going to keep the emotion beneath him? The young guys were hungry and were eating up what Monty was feeding them. Monty gave them nothing to eat after the season started, and they died of winning starvation on the court. Good for Monty for taking his money and living whatever life he wants, but good riddance for taking down our young guys and fracturing the organization.

      Do your research on venson….even though he’s a shooting coach but that’s the type of coaching we need on the floor. I’m just looking at Langdons moves. Venson has a proven track record of player improvement.

Cade been here going on year 4 now on his third coach, that’s why no one wants to be here. Turning off this is a complete embarrassment

    Many times during season, I was convinced Weaver was instructing Monty to lose, to lock in a top 3 lottery pick.....just like San Antonio blatently did last season and OKC did for 3 years in a row...it's normal for teams to do this in NBA.
    The other reason why I was convinced of Weaver tanking was purposely not bringing ANY veteran help whatsoever, except when forced to due to making a few trades and getting them in package. He had ZERO legitimate intention of bringing in any help. Which other teams did that? OKC refused to play any veterans- forcing them to sit half of season without playing (e.g. Horford); Spurs purposely used Sochan as point guard even though he has no skills in that area. All for tanking.
    Monty is not a horrible coach but he had a situation of purposely having to lose, of course under the guise of "evaluating players; evaluating lineups", as well as fake injuries.
    When Weaver left for whatever reason, Monty was on thin ice since his partner in tank was gone.
    Portland and Utah should be investigated by the NBA for what they did after All-star break, basically forfeiting the season. BUT their Gms are sticking with the plan, unlike detroit.

    My guess is that this took so long because Gores was working with Monty's agent to negotiate a buyout below the $65 million owed to Monty. And it looks like Monty and Co said no way. Will have to pay me it all if you fire me. And so, at long last, Gores decided to just be done with it and instructed TL to break the news. Welcome to Detroit, Trajan.
