    Ironically, I just checked out Ghost Squad at the library yesterday, but now I am even more excited to read it since you recommend it! I am so close to finishing my first middle-grade draft and I love finding new book inspiration. Have a wonderful day!

    Oh, this is so cool! As someone who wants to write middle grade fiction and perhaps make videos about it, this video helped me out. I've read a ton of middle grade; it's gotta be my favorite demographic to read for. It doesn't underestimate children, and it tackles all sorts of issues (domestic abuse, refugees, even cults) with what honestly seems to be more nuance than YA. I also feel like the worldbuilding is more creative, and the books themselves aren't too cynical or bleak. And I can avoid the gratuitous romance of YA! Woohoo! This video is a great example of how to film a book rec video.

    If you start reading a middle grade let’s do a read along / spoiler reading Vlog?
    Just an idea.
    I say read along so we can read the book too and then we can watch your reading Vlog.

    Have you read 'A Snicker of Magic' by Natalie Flloyd? She also has a mermaid book called 'Silverswift'. They're really good, though I have to say I enjoyed 'A Snicker of Magic' more.
    I've had my eye on Nevermoor for a while but haven't picked it up yet. Also the mermaid one you mentioned I think is on my TBR, but not sure. I will have to check them out.

    Recent MG recs: Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky by Kwame Mbalia (Rick Riordan presents). It’s about a Black boy encountering characters from West African mythology and African American folk heroes, and is a little heavy as some of the things, like “fetterlings” which are living shackles, have horrific real-world corollaries. And Charlie Thorne and the Last Equation by Stuart Gibbs. It has Artemis Fowl 12-year-old criminal genius vibes but is set in the real world, with puzzle-solving and historic-site hopping that make it feel like a middle grade Dan Brown. Both published in 2019.

    • @LindsayPuckett
      @LindsayPuckett 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah see I struggle with the "child-goes-up-against-a-god" trope. All the other Rick Riordan's I've tried just haven't worked for me :/ Ooh but Charlie Thorne and the Last Equation sounds right up my alley! Thank you!
