This model uses a voice coil actuator, as confirmed by the spec sheet from Seagate (on their FTP server). It can also be seen in videos of this drive that it is a linear voice coil - straight in and out, instead of pivoting back and forth like a modern drive.

When we had this harddisk in our inventory back in 1986, a problem was that the MS-DOS version back then - version 2.11 was not able to see the entire disk. I cannot remember exactly but the OS only saw harddrives with a capacity of 32 Mb. We had to wait for MS-DOS 4 around 1988 before the OS could see the entire drive.
