Thank goodness for the 4k77 community that gave us such great restored editions of the original theatrical versions of all 3 Star Wars movies! Great walk down memory lane! ❤

I also lived in Seattle. I saw Return of the Jedi at the UA 150 and spent many a day at Golden Age Collectibles at the Pike Place Market. We have some similar Star Wars stories. Love the Shazam! reference at 29:35. As the no. 1 Shazam fan in the world, I approve.

Oh man I wish I had mentioned Golden Age Collectables! Almost as often as I'd take a bus to UA Cinema 150 we used to go to Pike Place to visit GAC. What an awesome place! Thanks for the reminder!

@@JonBlackstone Your home movies are awesome. I wish we could have hung out as kids, but I was in Seattle attending Franklin High School, I'm 3 years younger than you, and I lived in a roach infested apartment where I could see the UA 150 theater from my 3rd floor window. Not always great times, but I had my monthly Marvel Comics Star Wars issues to keep me company. I got those comics each month at Golden Age Collectables and hung out at Pier 57 at the waterfront while occasionally going to Ivar's fish and chips.

For a bunch of kids goofing around woth a super8 camera, i think you guys did a pretty good job creating blaster effects! I was born in 84, and grew up during the "dark times" and could only imagine what it was like when kids first saw it in 1977. But videos like this give me a glimpse. I do remember being very pumped for it to be re released in 97, and i went bonkers to be able to watch it on the big screen like in that commercial. As i get older, i find the special editions a lot less appealing. Now i will only watch 4k77-80-83. Once youve seen them, its hard to go back. Fun video!

@JonBlackstone Do a video review! I'd love to hear your thoughts. TeamNegative1 is always updating the forums with new projects. I wish Lucasfilm would release an official theatrical cut. You can choose between 5 versions of Blade Runner, why not Star Wars lol. But I am perfectly OK with Project 4k, and Harmy's Despecialized.

I turned 5 years old in May of 1977 (I'm 52 years old as of this video posting) two weeks before the movie came out into the theaters. For the next 6 or so years my parents would shower me in Star Wars goodness for my birthday and for Christmas. I owned much of what you showed here in this video including all the vinyl and trading cards and figures and toys beyond 1977. You mentioned that YOU bought everything Star Wars you could at that time as a fan. I was too young at that time to buy anything because I was too young to have a job. I was just lucky and blessed to have parents that were well off enough to afford these things with their disposable income. Most of my friend's parents could not buy as much stuff like my parents could for me, it actaully caused some problems of envy between friends if I'm being honest. I'm actually curious how old were you when you could afford to buy all these cool things. I thought I was OG but apparently not. I've never met someone that was old enough to buy their own Star Wars merchandise back in 1977. That's actually pretty cool and very interesting.

Thanks for writing! I tell the story of how I got my first job at 13 (paperboy) for the sole purpose of affording one of the masks made by Don Post Studios. If you haven't see the other episodes you'll enjoy this story! Episode One: th-cam.com/video/qO9gf7q05tA/w-d-xo.html

@@JonBlackstone That makes sense and explains why you still have those things because you had to work for them. I didn't appreciate my toys and eventually gave them all away or sold them for pennies after I thought I was too old for toys. I think a lot of us older generation did that and regret it. It's hard to even talk about. You have an honorable collection and you are a rare fan that still has his original stuff. I will be checking out your other vids. Happy Holidays!

Nothing horrible about that Meco record, I love it! One thing that annoys me is that when you stream the original soundtrack album now, instead of the main title, you get this like Frankensteined mashup track that includes the main title and then goes into a medley of all the other themes and then the end title. I had the vinyl soundtrack just like you did, and I don’t recall it being like that.

Once AGAIN I thoroughly enjoyed this expose on your trip down Star Wars memory lane. You're approaching this subject through the most relevant and important lens that I think the modern audience misses out on. It's the time and effect Star Wars had on the world when it first hit the scene. And it's personal effect on you. This whole video series genuinely taps on the exact correct nerve that instantly brings back the recollection of everything we originally fell in love with about Star Wars.Reminding us that the original love is unshakable. . . I'm also a slave to collecting all the home video formats on Star Wars I could get my hands on over the years. But I will say that if you have not heard about Project 4K77 by Team Negative One , I would highly recommend it to you. In short, it is a beautifully restored, 4K mastered copy of an original 35 mm print of Star Wars from 1977. My favorite file is the one listed as Color Corrected but with no DNR. (digital noise reduction). Seeing that on a projector is the only version that makes me feel like I'm really watching the REAL Star Wars - back at the theater again in the 70s! If you've never heard of it , it's not hard to find. Again I would highly recommend it to you.

Star Wars was too new in 1977 for my parents to catch on, but my younger brothers would eventually get inundated with Empire Strikes Back toys in Christmas's to come... I remember a friend getting Star Wars stuff that '77 Xmas, but then I hear there were no action figures and what not, but I vividly remember him getting action figures... maybe its a Mandela deal

@@JonBlackstoneI asked the question too soon. Sorry. I remember watching that special but didn’t see it again via a book-leg video until the 1990s I think the boy good part was the animated sequence they introduced boba Fett. The same animation style was also used for the Star Wars droids Saturday mourning tv series in abc in 1984.

Jon, I too was a discerning STAR WARS fan, almost to the point of absurdity. The 1977 theatrical cut(s) is my favourite thing to this day. But oh, God, how I loved the Meco Star Wars LP!
I never felt it was cheese, but rather, it reminded me more of The Making of Star Wars (ABC TV) than the actual film. Images of the film crew along with their American trucks and vans on the Mos Eisley set in Tunisia. Meco bridged the distant worlds of Star Wars with the world of 1977 in which we lived.
Now Star Wars on Donny & Marie? That was reaching. 😯

    • @JonBlackstone
      @JonBlackstone  หลายเดือนก่อน

Oh I relate to everything you said so much! All those memories are so vivid! I totally understand how Meco played into your experience. It just didn't hit me in a good way because I was a big Beatles fan as a kid so the disco didn't do it for me. It's so funny you mentioned Donny and Marie because I just watched that on TH-cam. One of the terrible things about the '70s was Syd and Marty Krofft. They produced those terrible "variety" shows like The Brady Bunch Hour etc. In fact I just purchased a DVD set of the Brady Hour and it's some of the most cringeworthy stuff I've ever seen. Donny and Marie was very similar. These weird combinations of bad acting, awful music, and the token guests like Milton Burle or Rip Taylor. Anyway it's been fun remembering!

  • @rumblehat4357

If the film frames were from the actual film, they would have to be in scope format, meaning the image would be “squashed” from the sides. The projector lens would “unsqueeze” the image upon projection. Otherwise it is a flat format, and not an original film frame.
