    I don't know if anyone feels the same but I struggle most with learning to accept that people won't change. I cannot fathom how people can act so negative towards you when you only reach out to them with love and understanding. Thanks to this video this will be something I will be working on to learn to accept them for who they are and move on! Thank you as always Mimi.

      There is always a reason why people act the way they do. Always. People are not robots, they have emotions and thoughts that lead then to do what they do. People have bad days, people don't want help at that moment, people feel weak if they accept help etc. Your good intentions will be realised by those people whether it's tomorrow or ten years from now. What you say or do now can affect someone a month from now. Don't stop doing what you're doing. You are a good person.

    To be honest, I am a pessimist. I've been thinking about negative thoughts all the time. And I'm still living with my family, I only make friends on Facebook, but not real life, all that junk. And I kept bragging that I really want to get out of North Carolina that bad and never come back.
    So you know what? I think I should give those a shot. ^_^ It's gonna take some time to give up being negative and all, but I'm gonna do my best! :)

    I agree with most of this, but honestly I don't think it's a smart to tell people to try and eliminate the news from their lives? So what if we can't fix every problem on the news? At least we become more knowledgeable and aware. Society thrives when people are educated and aware, and people should seek to know what's going on in the world. No one is going to be able to fix every problem, but they can be inspired to fix certain ones. Little by little, this all makes our world a better place. You're right that we shouldn't let the negativity of the news consume us, but remember that it can actually have a lot of payoffs to society.

    Hey mimi! I've had a really negative friend who always put me down, but I chose to let it happen because of other friends I didn't want to lose. After watching your video I used your exact words and behaved in a very respectable manner as I ended things. Thank you for giving me the courage to do that. I also found this quote which made me think of you.
    "Not all toxic people are cruel and uncaring. Some of them love us dearly. Many of them have good intentions. Most are toxic to our being simply because their needs and way of existing in the world force us to compromise ourselves and our happiness. They aren’t inherently bad people, but they aren’t the right people for us. And as hard as it is, we have to let them go. Life is hard enough without being around people who bring you down, and as much as you care, you can’t destroy yourself for the sake of someone else. You have to make your wellbeing a priority. Whether that means breaking up with someone you care about, loving a family member from a distance, letting go of a friend, or removing yourself from a situation that feels painful - you have every right to leave and create a safer space for yourself."

    I've just argued with my dad literally less than an hour ago. It's always mostly because our world views are too different and it had affected me so much. I don't even know why but I'm feeling so down and a little bit broken like I did for a really long time in my life and I haven't this way for awhile. My family do support me in some ways but they also don't and it's really hard. Specially, because I have mood swings and anxiety and I don't always know how I'm gonna react. BUT it's the right video in the right time and I just want to thank you Mimi for it. It did made me feel better and also helped a lot. But of course I still have a lot of stuff to work on with myself

    I've always thought that the news makes me so unhappy whenever I read or hear it and I've contemplated to cut myself off but after hearing what you said, I think it's time to take a break from all the war and disasters in the world.

    • @tomsantangelo2907
      @tomsantangelo2907 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +VinaKay95 Some news is good news. I think it's important to know what's going on in the world. If you live in a bubble outside of the world's horrors you live a sheltered life, a false life. Instead of being sad all of the time about what is happening around the world maybe there's something you could do about it. DoSomething.org is one cool site that shows things you could do for all sorts of causes. One person in bystander country might not be able to stop a foreign war but maybe you could start a movement. But I do agree with what Mimi says. If you're not going to do anything about it, don't watch it. And if you're not going to do anything about it, don't complain. www.alternet.org/story/11597/10_things_you_can_do_to_prevent_war

    I just love this video but I still having a doubt. For example, sometimes it is hard to know when someone is saying something for you be a better person and improve (giving a good advice) or if this person is being negative or mean to you. Anyone else here have the same problem?
    Coz I think that sometimes ppl are just trying to help but they do not know how to do it properly.

    100% agree. I broke up with many friends that have negative attitude toward me. Then, I realize that there are many more good friends that support me and be there for me. I just didn't realize it because those negativity really sucked my time and energy. I allowed them to abuse me for so long. I kept wanting to explain and change their thought. Then, I had enough. I learnt that they will never change and it is not my job to change them. Now, it is like living a new better life. The best part is....I become much more positive too. I get to share positive energy and happiness to people around me. Don't let those people abuse you. Love you Mimi

    I needed to hear what you said in this video mimi! I have been feeling really down on myself and i have felt a lot of self pity lately. Ive had a tough time at work and it has made me really negative and frankly, a little bit frustrating to hang around with. This video has made me realize that my negativity has pushed à lot of people away probably and i can understand why. I remember back in the day i used to be so much more positive and it attracted positivity to me, i felt happier and less judgmental. So thank you, you have really cheered me up and made me realize something today.

    I've been in a deep funk these last few days and this video helped me pull myself out of that negativity pit. I read so many sad and disturbing news articles and sometimes I let it get to me on a deeply personal level. While I think it's a good thing to be empathetic and aware of the goings-on in the world outside yourself, don't let it consume your heart and blacken your outlook on life. Thanks for the boost, Mimi :)

  • @RashellEliAriel

    Mimi, I just want to thank you. You have helped me so much to find my true self, and exactly who I want to be. Two years ago when I found your videos, I had no friends, I was suffering from depression and anxiety, my family was dragging me down, and I was dragging myself down. I was so lost; I didn't know where I was going, and had no life or person goals. I so desperately wanted to change, but had no idea of how to start. But then I found you Mimi. You made me realize that I could be a leader, not a follower. I could create my own realities, and follow my dreams no matter what others thought of them. You showed that I deserve to be happy and positive even if I am not living the way others wish me to. I know that you once said you don't want to be idolized, but I do idolize you. Though not in the traditional way. I idolize you because I know you are a person just like me. A person who has had many struggles, but continues to strive to help people and follow her dreams, and made me realize that I can too. And I just want to thank you for sharing your beautiful soul with us. One of my biggest dreams is to meet you someday, and tell you this in person. I love you Mimi!

    Thanks for sharing this Mimi! Made me realise that sometimes, I'm the negative person and should really watch what I say to people around me (especially when I'm exhausted!). I disagree with your view on watching/reading the news though because how could I actively do something if I don't know what's going on? My friends and I like to discuss current affairs and what we think would be a solution, and I hope one day some of us would make the solutions happen. Keep making these videos Mimi, they're great! xx

      I think she meant, if you don't plan on making change ever happen, then there is no point watching the news. But you and your friends enjoy talking about it and potentially wanting to make changes happen, Which is totally fine! I think she was just trying to say that if you are just watching it to watch it, it'll just bring you down for no reason!

    I understand the intent behind this video is good and I even agree with a lot of your suggestions. However if you are recommending to people not to watch the news, I don't think you are allowed to insinuate that homelessness and working two jobs is always a choice. I feel like if you are choosing not to be informed/aware about events happening in the world you should also not comment on them or make (dangerous) generalizations.

    You obviously did not finish your education or have taken the time to self educate yourself. Inform yourself before making a big statement such as; You make the choice to be homeless. Perhaps you can began by researching Vietnam veterans. Lets all learn and love one another instead of attacking each other, is that not the principle message of your video!

      I picked up exactly that as well. What a horrible comparison to her "drudgery" of school and work. I can't stand this woman.

    • @MiauxCatterie
      @MiauxCatterie 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      she was saying that in her life, she could make that choice and change her situation. she could also choose to find other jobs, or work less, or go on welfare, or be homeless, instead of working so much. she was reminding herself that she could change her situation, and also what that change would effectively look like.
      personally i didn't take offense to it because i interpreted it in that fashion. it actually helped me put things into a different perspective that was useful to me. i don't think she was at all implying that everyone who is homeless just chooses to be, or that they can just choose not to be.

    • @tanisgentle3576
      @tanisgentle3576 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The point you are missing is the fact that MANY if not most people are in a bad way through no fault of their own, such as chronic illness, and are not "making" a "choice" to remain in their circumstances. For most people in a bad way this is not a CHOICE. They aren't just sitting there wallowing in their misery because of BAD CHOICES. Dumb and insensitive remark.

    I am sorry to say this but actually news is very important in our lives. You need not know everything that happens in the world but u need to know to an extent. Current affairs are important , you will be tested in that in various examinations , interviews etc. nobody likes a zero- knowledge person. Your videos are being watched by young adolescents don't discourage them from watching news , it's important to know what the govt is doing to its people and it's only through news that people can react to the unfairness happening around them. People voice out your opinions .

      Shravani Vakkanthula of course you can't be completely unaware of what's happening in the world, I don't think it's that what she means. Mimi is just saying that you shouldn't burden yourself by reading about or watching such depressing topics on a day to day basis. It can really affect you a great deal in the long run

    I love the way you respect yourself so much that you won't allow negative people in your life and you won't tolerate negativity itself. I also admire you for some things Alex said, e.g. that you both go on gratitude walks. How much this has manifested in your lives is a testimony to the power of words, if you believe in them. Furthermore, in a positive way. All the best. God Bless!

    Hi Mimi! I just wanted to thank you for these very uplifting videos! I've been going through a lot these past few years, I try to be positive all the time. Sometimes it gets to where I don't feel like being happy. It's really hard to fight these feelings off and I don't want to feel like that. I need to read the news as part of my degree, and how these events can influence various governments, political parties, countries etc... But I've also learned to separate myself from it, so that it doesn't get me down. And as for being a negative person, I admit that I used to do that at times with school and work. I've now set out for myself to take a day off from work and not studying for the entire day, and focus on myself. Whether it's a massage, a trip to a museum, meeting up with a friend, or going to a coffee shop and reading a non-academic book. As for a negative family member, we've learned not to talk about certain subjects, or I just block out what they're saying.
