Just bought the FS version as I like bait runners when fishing multiple rods ( and I find them useful when changing setups in wind rather than using back wind). I also tend to favour smaller reels in general. Under 50 quid in the UK if you shop around, and the FS has a shallow match spool ( as well as a standard ). Fantastic piece of kit, especially given that the design is over ten years old now.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more interesting and informative review of a reel. Thank you so much, Den. I know what I’ll be discussing when I’m in my local tackle shop next. I’ve never tried a twin handle reel (other than a multiplier, sea fishing) so I wasn’t sure about it until you got to the point where you showed it has both options and now I’m all but sold already!
I had the older version of these (2) but as you say, kept coming out of clip, so I got rid. With blue tac have ordered the fs, think I will buy another. Cheers Den😊
@@FishingwithDen will do, great tip, was also told a trick when casting out to make sure the spool line clip is underneath facing down to the ground not on top looking up to stop the line popping out when casting a feeder
@@michaelmorgan6012 I never really think about where the clip is these days Michael. I haven't had the feeder pop out of the clip for so long I can't remember the last time.
@@FishingwithDen yep I get what your saying, I'll look forward to using the reel and take it from there, good luck in your competition hope the pole holds up👍🏻🤞
I have bought two of these reels after your review. Thanks for explaining and reviewing it so well, it really helped. There fine reels and great value. Thanks from the UK
No worries mate. I'm glad you found it helpful. I think I now have 5 of these reels which cover most of my general purpose fishing. It's only for heavy duty feeder fishing that I use anything else these days.👍
I have never had the fishing line come out of the clip when casting, of course it is important to use the correct wire thickness but the most important thing is that after clicking the line into the clip you turn the spool to the front (180 degrees) of the reel so that the clip points away from you towards the water, I think it is a fantastic system, it is a shame that it is not used on more reels.
Hello Den, just ordered the Map 4000 FD reel. I will let you know if i'm as pleased about the reel as you are. Your insight in this category of fishing is highly preferred. Mike from Belgium.
Cracking reels Den, I get on well with them apart from the line coming out of the clip when using finer diameters lines, will be definitely trying the blutak trick next trip out. 👍
Hi Den, top class review of the MAP acs reel. I have a 4000fd reel, but I must admit I prefer using the single handle, I do mostly feeder fishing, so I love the acs clip. I also have two Wychwood solace 6 frèe spool reels, and they also have the acs clip. Cracking reels. Anyway keep up the good work, I like many enjoy your videos. Cheers and tight lines. Allan, from Scotland.
Who needs expensive reels? Great reel for match fishing , when big carp are in the venue. Great review Den, hope MAP mention you or send you some tackle to try out. Merry Xmas and tight lines for the new year
Thanks for your comments Peter. I would be happy to review products from any manufacturer. If I do, the reviews would always be factual and not biased in any way though. I am not connected with any manufacturer, so I can provide an honest opinion without being disrespectful. Merry Xmas mate.🎅👍
@@FishingwithDen Hi den , I've tried to recommend the to guys I match fish , but none of them have bothered with them , there loss , I tell you what I really like them for , is fishing for carp shallow on pellet wag in open water , where the big boys are , cheers.
Thanks for the review - very thorough and really useful. I’ve ordered one as the ACS system really appeals. I think I missed the comparison between the FD and FS in terms of size. Ive got the FS but prefer a 4000 reel that was that size rather than really a 3000. (Seems to be a trend!) Thanks again Den.
One thing I like about the my newly received Carptek reel is the line clip lies flush with the spool and the standard clip is very much easier that the “countersunk” ones on my other reels. Now let’s find the Blutack!
Hi Den, nice interesting video. You get the role in Germany too. It costs € 75-80. I'll take a look at them. I could use them when I fish in the carp pools in the Netherlands.
Hi Den, what UK shops have them in? From your experience is the clip friendly to line when casting out? found some line clips damage line when casting to them
Hi Adam. Just search for Buy MAP 4000 FD reel and quite a few of them show up. I have used these line clips for years now and never had a problem with them damaging my line.
Very good reels, only downside the metal of the spools is very soft, they easly dent on the lip. I hoped that the newer MAP reels will keep the clip. Also the plastic cover on the handle knob lost at first cast :) on every reel.
Hi Ovidiou. I've never had that happen to any of the spools on my MAP reels, but maybe an updated version could address that. I also just went out and checked the caps on my reel handles and they are all still there after 6 years. I wonder if there is a Quality Control issue? Possibly those caps were not fitted properly?
Thanks for that Alan. You're right about trying to keep the clip pointing down. I think I remember Andy May telling us that on a video some years ago too. Unfortunately, I still encountered occasion problems with the clip releasing when it wasn't supposed to. It might have been because I forgot to keep moving the spool around until the clip faced down, but with the Blue Tack, I never get that problem anymore. It just gives you a fraction more grip which keeps the line inside the clip a bit better. Nowadays, I don't have to worry about rotating the spool after every fish the takes line.
Very informative vid. My Wife would go mad if I bought another reel! Love the idea of two handles I do prefer one not the double cannot seem to get on with them? Merry Xmas too!
It should be fine. I use mine with 0.25mm Guru Drag line, but I noticed that Matrix Sinking Mono at 0.24mm is stated at 12.5lbs breaking strain. Just make sure you use the Blue Tack trick, otherwise the line can pop out of the clip too easily.
Great in-depth review Den Two FS Reel's went on eBay last week for £66 really thinking of getting some not sure Which though FS or FD,. FS seam hard to get Anyway enjoy the vids Cheers Mate.
