Nora looks like Santa 🎅🏻 with her pouches full!
When they were on the top of the hill, I was glad to at least see her protecting her baby from rolling down the hill.

3:05 to 3:15 - looks like Nora didn’t know what to make of you filming her right then. I love seeing their expressions and interactions. It’s helped me understand my own animals (I have dogs, sugar gliders, chinchillas, a bunny, and a cat) ‘language’ toward myself and each other so much more. Its fascinating and it’s helped me in attempting to interpret my own pet’s behaviors and communication.

As long as she allows baby constant clingy cuddling at this age, the baby will form secure attachment to be a functionaltroop member. Even if milk is highly controlled, its fine (unless she doesnt feed her for days which clearly isnt the case). Alot of the ltm moms do this too. it
Is the maternal acceptance/rejection in terms of clinging, that influences whether the baby develops into a securely confident and curious lil monk, or has problems because it felt insecure about its mothers bonding.

First let me start by saying you want to see a person doing great video work on Snow Monkeys of Japan his name is Kyio. He does such a great job and does not interfere or feed these monkeys he has a few favs but does not make them his pet it is because they are the strong female leaders in fact the top female raised two babies last year one was not hers and compared to these lazy monkeys she did a great job if you don't know they live in the mountains and get a lot of snow and very cold weather and food is hard to find. So of course this baby is healthy not skin and bones so getting plenty of moms milkshake but you will get the menopause troop all in a tiff and the brain-dead to think she is horrible, and they will say things like " I hate her" she needs to be marked and not have babies" and of course "take her baby away" as I'm sure this is what they want to raise these creatures in their home, not knowing how awful pets they make and is why so many bring them back to temples to get rid of them.. Stop making it as if they do not know how to raise a baby they are monkeys and it is not your job to question a mother monkey just document them and how they live and all the crazy stuff they do as they are not the soft cuddly creatures that people think but the opposite they are mean and live in a world where there are top monkeys and low monkeys and no human can change it along with crazy monkeys..

We are entitled to our opinion. People who have these channels run them how they see fit and if you dont like one then watch another one but dont go on this long tirade about how you know what we should be watching. Brenda Joyce White, I agree because according to published documentation. Some mothers don't realize their babies may nurse for long periods of time but hardly get any milk. A teaspoon or less I was so shocked! Many go hungry and physically suffer. But as an animal mom doesn't realize her baby is actually starving.

11:00 it’s funny how they get so sleepy nursing. I wonder if they are just sleepy already and the warmth and comfort of having mom with a full belly of milk just lets them let go and fall asleep or I know they there is tryptophan in milk too so that might add to their sleepiness haha.

I noticed that too. Do you know if that’s a pattern for Nora? I discovered this channel a few months before baby season last year and initially focused on getting to know Our Gang. I didn’t have a firm grasp on the moms in other troops so I don’t remember Nora’s habits.
Gypsy usually won’t allow her baby to nurse until she’s eaten and I thought that might be due to her low status, she’s hungry more often than higher rankers and needs to take in some energy before she can give it out. But that theory is blown if matriarch Nora does it too! Another possibility, there’s been discussions that both Nora and Gypsy may suffer from a macaque version of postpartum depression. If so maybe waiting to nurse until after eating is related to that, perhaps a hormonal imbalance or something similar.
Was Celessa Nora’s baby last year and Cessa (who didn’t survive) the year before? I really liked Celessa, she was super energetic she stood out for me the most from Nora’s troop.

Sure is tuff on her baby. I don’t see much baby milk fat on baby. Acts like real hunger is a problem.think she has little natural motherhood instincts in her or just don’t care about the baby. I see a skinny undernourished baby with hidden problems I don’t know about. I see the moms her are normally the greatest mothers. Mom is acting more like the Cambodian mothers. Mom your baby needs the milk real bad. Think you could give up eating for about 30 minutes and nurse your off spring. Think she has a bad food addiction that over ride feeding her bad natural motherhood instincts?

Notes is one of the few who actually abuse her infants. I wrote this last week:
Child abuse is rare among rhesus macaques but it happens. Some researcher studied this among free ranging rhesus macaques divided the abuse into different categories. The anise is not only performed by the mother, sometimes it can be another adult doing it. Like Bossy throwing and biting spunky and Spocky.
      Dragging
The mother drags her infant by its tail or leg while walking or running.
      Crushing
The mother pushes her infant against the ground with both hands.
      Throwing
The mother throws her infant at a short distance with one hand while standing or walking.
      Slapping
The mother violently slaps her infant with one hand or arm.
      Biting
      Stepping or sitting on
The mother steps on her infant with one foot or both feet, or sits on her infant.
      Dangling/dropping
The mother climbs a tree or fence and holds her infant by its tail or leg or drops her infant on the ground.
      Rough grooming
The mother pulls her infant's hair or otherwise roughly grooms it causing distress calls.
      Stretching
The mother holds her infant by its arms and/or legs and stretches it.
      Somersaulting
The mother runs and somersaults with her infant clinging to her chest.
Infant dragging was the most frequent infant abuse pattern, followed by crushing, throwing, biting, hitting and stepping/sitting on the infant.
Other less frequent patterns accounted for about 10 % of all abuse events.
Nothing was never as severe as to require intervention for medical treatment. It did show though that the kortisol level was higher among the abused infants that could affect the immune defense in the future.
Child abuse when it's happens it's often during the child's first months, often the first week and than decreases. Abuse events doesn't last more than a few seconds at time.
Juvenile and adult females often approached the abusive mother and her infant and attempted to touch and retrieve the screaming infant. They also groom the abused infants more and harass them less than non-abused infants in the first month, the period when there abuse was most frequent.
The above is a little problematic because it's the alpha Nora doing the abuse. Thankfully Nan can protect the child. I can see tension in Nora's troop whenever she starts to abusive her infant and it look likes a lot of them in the troop has a lot to say but doesn't dare because of Nora's ranking.
It's been documented that the alpha male in one troop approached and mounted the abusive mother.
What I've missed are studies to why it happens at all. Why does infants get abused most of the time during the first week in life or in the first week and then decreases over a time span of a month? Logically it should have something to do with the chemical imbalances that can happen in a female bodies after giving birth. So I believe it could be some kind of postnatal depression going on.

Poor baby... I wonder if breastfeeding is painful for her or she just has him on a certain feeding schedule..
She could just be a strict parent & trying to set down some rules early so the baby knows he can only nurse when she says so and not when he wants..

    • @carmenpeters728
      @carmenpeters728 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I don't think she can schedule, because monkeys can't tell time. She has to nurse or will become engorged with milk if she doesn't breastfeed, which hurts, if she's getting adequate food and liquids. the infant stimulates milk production by suckling. however if she's not eating and drinking enough she will dry up. baby sucks and sucks to get more and nipples get sore.

    • @kendee_
      @kendee_ ปีที่แล้ว

Some have theorized Nora has mastisis, she usually only nurses for long periods if she's eating to distract from the pain. It could also have to do with trauma from losing a previous baby.

@@kelpiemare7522 Well no I can't agree with that. I see some great mothers in the monkey world and the human world. But like the human world where Queen's have kids who seem to struggle, so goes the monkey world. Look at Nora on the Arroz channel who is a terrible mother perhaps about to lose her baby while her sister Norma and her baby are thriving together.
